With plenty of space, both indoors and out, to spread out, this retreat great for families, girls' or guys' weekends, retreats, and family reunions, and hiking/fishing getaways. Relax at this cedar-and-stone cabin on dead-end street, surrounded by state land. The rushing Esopus creek tumbles around the bend behind the house. You hear it ALL the time, no matter where you are in the house. Interior stone walls, natural wood and citrus accents throughout. Soaring ceilings frame the great room, lined with windows that open to the stream. Cozy library has stone fireplace, piano, a loveseat and a couch, reading materials and board games. A well-equipped kitchen lets you be the chef, with all major and minor appliances, as well as a window seat and breakfast bar. TV for watching movies (no TV channels), stereo system you can plug into with zoned speakers, wireless internet, telephone. Downstairs: kitchen, bathroom with shower, library, great room. Full bath with tub/shower attachment. Outside, deck and patio face the stream, you can catch rays or enjoy the sunset. Maximum no of guests: 12. Check out the bedroom configuration to know if this is the right setup for your group. Warnings: the stair risers are open, so kids (ours learned to walk on them) need supervision. About the neighbourhood
Chichester is in the heart of the Catskills, two miles from the hamlet of Phoenicia and 15 minutes from funky Woodstock. You'll discover breathtaking mountains, swimming holes, hiking trails, and lakeside beaches all woven together by the meandering Esopus Creek.
Getting around
Scenic train rides, farmers' markets, u-picks, weekend tag sales, tons of hiking trails, tubing, fly fishing. Witness your NYC drinking water at its source by walking or boating the Pepacton and Ashokan Reservoirs. Big outdoor flea market in Arkville. Woodstock and Rhinebeck for shopping, Tannersville for antiques, Hunter and Belleayre ski mountain for concerts and gatherings. A few foodie recommendations from committed foodies: Amy's Takeaway (not me!) will stash pre-ordered, locally sourced, pure-food meals in the fridge. Peekamoose has crazy-quilt grouping of cocktail, white tablecloth, tavern, and deck spaces. In Phoenicia, hit Brio's to ground yourselves in small town feel, Bklyn-born Phoenicia Diner for local foods, Tavern 2
