Everything was great...until the last evening.
Even though we have family in Queretaro, my husband and I decided to go ahead a book this hotel so we could have easy access to the downtown area and would not have to impose on the family. Our first impression of the hotel was that it was quaint, very clean and had a special charm. Although there was a slight issue with the front desk not having our reservation details when we arrived, the staff was very friendly and as requested, showed us to our room, #2, on the main floor. Right outside the room, there was a patio area with a fountain, tables and chairs, very nice. The room itself was smaller than the picture shows but nevertheless, perfect for us. Plenty of space for clothes (could use more hangers though) and accessories and both the room and bathroom were very clean. There was a good size tv and the most important, an A/C unit that worked perfectly, keeping our room at a very cool temperature! We ate breakfast there several times during our 2 week stay and the staff was incredibly gracious, especially a young woman by the name of Alba. Everyone, including Alba, went above and beyond to make us feel welcome and the food was delicious!! We ate outside in the very cozy and traditional tables and chairs and enjoyed that very much. Almost every night, the hotel's restaurant/bar had music playing, either with a live band or a sound system. Most of the time the noise level was manageable, even though the inside door that led to the bar was very close to our room and left open (should have been closed to keep noise inside the bar) and yes, the music was LOUD but we were out most of the time and on vacation, so we didn't really mind. Our only issue was one night when there were about 8-10 people sitting in the patio right outside our room. They were drinking quite a bit and were very loud and it was almost midnight. My husband called the front desk and just asked if someone could ask them to just keep it down a little bit. The front desk person seemed to think our request was odd but said he would do something. We waited and waited, looked through our peephole but no one from the front desk every showed up. After about an hour, the people left. It was a bit frustrating but nothing major. On our last night at the hotel, which was this past Saturday, 9/2/17, some family members came over to say goodbye around 9pm. We all sat outside in that same patio area outside our room and took pictures and talked about our stay. Inside the bar/restaurant, the same loud music was playing as in earlier days and it was packed with people, a very typical Saturday night at this hotel. We asked for some coffee which was brought out, again, by one of the very friendly and competent staff members. We sat out there for about and hour or so when all of a sudden, a front desk employee (which we had not seem before) came up to us and asked us to "keep it down". We were all shocked since we had not been doing anything but talking and taking pictures. There was no alcohol involved and we are all ADULTS! I was so shocked and embarrassed, that I went into the bar to pay for the 6 coffees and 2 cokes that we had ordered. I was speaking with the young man whom we had seen many times before, about the incident and he was apologetic and mentioned that I was standing next to the General Manager of the hotel. So of course I politely asked him if he was, in fact, the General Manager and to my surprise, he turned around and SLURRED,"yes, I am". It took me all of 10 seconds to realize that this person was extremely DRUNK!! I couldn't understand a word he was saying (in Spanish, as this is my native language and his, I assume) and finally gave up even trying to explain the situation. About 15 minutes later, after our family left, my husband and I were putting the coffee mugs and 2 glasses on tray, when he stumbled out of the bar, "walked" across the patio to the kitchen area and then went back into the bar. My husband and I just stood there in disbelief but my husband mentioned that he had done that same thing several times while we were out there but that no one had any idea that he was the GM. How unprofessional can you be!! If his "shift" was over, then he should either leave the premises to drink elsewhere so he is not representing the hotel in that manner and if he was on shift, it's my personal opinion that he should be fired. I couldn't wait to get back to do my review of this hotel and give it 5 stars because we thought it was just wonderful but those 2, extremely unpleasant incidents, practically ruined our opinion of the hotel. It's really a shame that one person can do that when the rest of the staff is WONDERFUL! If you plan on staying at this hotel, be aware of the music that is playing almost nightly and if you can get past that and the "GENERAL MANAGER", you'll really like it there.
