We have stayed at horseshoe cottage for 6 years now, its brilliant. The cottage is beautiful and really well presented, it is a real home from home, with everything you would need for your stay. It is also well equipped for families, with baby gates and travel cot for little ones. It is close to the town of Wigton with...

Sadly only booked 3 nights so will be returning. Lovely cottage, very clean and the owners provided fresh eggs from the farm and some milk. The playground was great for the little one and the farm dogs were excellent company. The weather was great so we went to Keswick and other places but if it had been horrible weather we...

Fantastic accommodation. Very well maintained, modern and stunning with the vaulted ceiling and original beams. The cottages have all been built with families in mind and we were very impressed to find the integrated stair gate. The outdoor space is a great bonus, our son loved the slide, tractors and other toys. A very central location for the coast, north...

About the neighbourhood

With a charter granted in 1262, the traditional Cumbrian market town of Wigton still holds a market each Tuesday in the covered market hall. This lovely town is a popular centre for shopping, pubs and restaurants, as well as for other activities such as theatre, bowls, swimming, tennis and other sports. Wigtonian The Lord Melvyn Bragg novel, 'A Time to Dance', featured the town of Thurston, which was based on Wigton and the local area. The town is just 18 miles from Penrith and so makes an excellent base from which to explore the cathedral city of Carlisle, the North Lakes and the natural beauty of the West Cumbrian Coast. The epic Roman construction, Hadrian's Wall, is within 25 miles, whilst the Scottish borders and their famous town of Gretna Green are within easy dr...
