Wirksworth, Derbyshire, England
You enter Hog Cottage through a stable front door into a snug area with a desk and easy chairs which offers a perfect place for chilling out on summer evenings. From the sung a door leads to a lovely cottage style sitting room with a cosy gas living flame fire and comfy sofa and two chairs.

At the other end of the snug there is a archway through to a newly appointed luxury Kitchen which leads into a stunning Dining Room with a grand dining table which looks magnificent against the stone walls, high ceiling and exposed beams. The dining room leads out onto a secure patio area and in the summer months it provides a wonderful alfresco breakfast area with a small bistro table and chairs.

Upstairs there are two double bedrooms, one offering a Colour TV/DVD and new King Sized bed the other with an option of two single beds or King Size. The...

Had a lovely weekend in this characterful cottage, well equipped with great welcome hamper. Its on a bit of hill but then again so is everywhere in Derbyshire! Will be coming again.

We had an excellent time at Hog Cottage and Wirksworth itself is lovely. Lovely places to eat and drink like Mercia, Le Mistral and Featherstar. My only caveat is that you need to be comfortable with hills -walking up them, or at least parking on one. There is parking at the bottom of the hill too luckily as our driver...

Absolutely fell in love with hog cottage from its beautiful views, decor to the personal hamper for humans and for your dog , a real lovely touch . About the neighbourhood
Wirksworth is one of the oldest towns of this area and still one of those with greatest character. Centred around its marketplace, where markets have been held since Edward I granted the right in 1306, it has many fine old buildings with picturesque alleys and craftsmen's yards.

The reason for the splendour of many of the buildings is Wirksworth's historical trade - it was the southern centre of the Derbyshire lead industry and the Soke and Wapentake of Wirksworth, as it was called, was one of the most productive mining areas.
