Great location but a very run down apartment.
Met at the door by the owner. This apartment is extremely run down and not really suitable for letting. The living room had 5 window blinds, only 1 worked properly and that was very dirty. 1 cracked window. The 2 bathrooms and kitchen smelt of damp the whole time. Towels were provided but 2 of these had awful stains on them. The ensuite shower door doesn't open properly and the grout in the shower cubicle was black to the top. Broken toilet roll holder. The window had lots of black tape on it covering up the vent. A part of the flooring had come unstuck. Bedroom drawers were stained and dusty. Coat hook in the hallway had no hooks on it so screws were put in instead. Hall cupboard with the owners items in there should have be locked. Second bedroom had no light shade. Fridge door no handle and rust along the length the bottom. Some of the crockery I had to wash before we could use it, green and dust in glasses. The step up to the second bathroom had become loose and unsafe. The cupboard in the kitchen for mop, brush etc unsafe and filthy. We couldn't use the second shower as there was no window covering so anyone overlooking the back of the house would be able to see far too much when in the shower! Door handle broken. The garden had a pot of cigarette butts in it, very overgrown and unusable. Rubbish piled up at the back of the garden. Broken glass in the garden that been there a long time. Very disappointed.

Good location but the flat needs attention to maintenance, safety and housekeeping.
En suite. Can’t lock the door. Shower door half-opens against the basin. No soap. Shower hose leaking so shower head useless. Main bathroom. No ventilation to WC enclosure. Hence have to ventilate by having WC door open and opening the window in the bathroom. Bathroom door handle missing on the inside of the room, hence difficult to keep to close from the inside. Bathroom door opens directly onto the kitchen. No lock on bathroom or WC door. No isolator switch for the shower. Low doorway with no warning sign. The toilet seat is not securely fixed. Toilet-roll holder is missing a part: useless and dangerous because of how the metal ends stick out towards the toilet. The light in the bathroom is not working and the one in the WC flickers. Shower pressure is low. Shower door does not close fully. Kitchen. Low-level cupboards contain chemicals, with no childproof catch on the doors. No handle on fridge. Extension board on electric socket blocks the use of the remaining socket – have to manipulate plugs over the top of the microwave. Cheap, random collection of cutlery. Armchair has no support in the seat. Dangerous for someone with mild mobility problem. Sofa cushions worn and torn. Mattresses old and uncomfortable. WiFi slow and unreliable. Someone’s jacket was left in the wardrobe.

Excellent accommodation and great location!
We arrived at the flat and were shown around by our very welcoming host. The flat is lovely- clean and spacious in a quiet area and very close to local attractions. The flat has everything you need and Malcolm was very helpful and on hand if we needed anything at all. We really enjoyed our time here and will definitely be returning.

Everhome Flat, Southend
We arrived 11.30am without warning - arrival should have been 2pm! Malcolm, our very friendly, helpful host, made himself immediately available to greet us, bring us keys and arrange for parking for the long weekend. He called later on that evening to make sure that everything was ok for us. The flat’s location was fantastic! Based just a couple of minutes away from some gardens with a beautiful sea view. Access to the sea was just a short walk through the gardens, based in the quieter end of Southend, it was probably about 5 minutes walk to where everything was lively once we’d walked through the gardens - the longest UK pier, beach, Adventure Island, bus tours if we wanted, shops, food and a real hub of activity. The nearness of the flat was especially welcome, as Southend is a very busy location and it costs £12 for a day’s parking by the sea compared to £2.50 each day to leave the car at base. The town centre was about 10 minutes walk from the apartment. The accommodation itself was ample - not 5 star inside but homely, comfortable and clean. We had plenty of space for what we needed and two bathrooms - one, en-suite - was very helpful indeed! Internet connection was good, 2 televisions - though we didn’t use them - and apartment was equipped with everything needed to cook, if we needed, for our stay. The flat also had a garden, though again, we were not around much to use it. We were totally relaxed during our stay, and Malcolm was easily accessible by phone if we needed. This would be our first choice accommodation for any return trip to Southend.

Malcolm is attentive and helpful, and this is really good value for money given the cost. I would visit again. Southend - Just need a few more restaurants to reopen post covid otherwise this is a great location too. Thanks.

Great place for a family vacation
The house is a great place for families to stay while they see the Beach. It is a great place to relax and is a cosy place for families. It is close to the beach and the central shopping area , as well as 2 train stations so it is very easy to navigate from the house. The neighborhood is very calm and peaceful. I would recommend this to others.

Disappointing
As has been mentioned in previous reviews Malcolm, the owner, is a very nice guy but the apartment was nowhere near "rental ready".It was very tired looking and sparsely furnished, old and worn out sofas with torn cushions covered with blankets. No shelves or cabinets in the bathroom, old bath towels that had to be replaced as did the broken electric kettle and toaster. No properly working Wi-Fi for 4 days until updated equipment was installed. You should also question how wheelchair accessible the flat really is. Also noisy neighbours from the flat above. We left two days early. Malcolm agreed that the flat needed some serious updating and we agreed on a partial refund on the rent. I will say that he tried to make it better but all these things should have been taken care of before he rented it.

I am disappointed with my customers review. Her expectation for £70 per night was in comparison to her American apartment rental business at double the price. The kettle needed a fuse and the toaster was working fine. The bedroom furniture was brand new in March this year and the leather lounge furniture was damaged by the guests who stayed the week before, so I covered them with a throw which looked absolutely fine. The WiFi was sporadic so as soon as she told me I got BT to rush me a brand new modem which arrived the next day. I immediately drove there to fit it and make sure it was working fine. We have many customers who stay with us with wheelchairs and we've never had a problem. This lady didn't even have a wheelchair which completely baffled me. The flat was exactly as described and as per the photos supplied. I don't mind fair criticism but in the circumstances, I ran about and did everything I could to help them, all to no avail.

Southend stay
We have just spent 5 days in Southend On Sea, staying at a well positioned flat in the Clifftown part of town. The whole Booking process was easy and we found the flat easily - walking from the train station. Flat was comfy and clean, plenty room for our family of four. You could get 6! Malcolm welcomed us and showed us round the flat- talking us through cooker etc. much appreciated. What I would say- not having access to a garden was not great - given the hot weather. Also the flat could probably do with a bit of TLC- the wardrobe in one of the rooms had the back Panel falling out of it, there was a nail sticking up from the carpet at the kitchen- which we kept standing on, the bathroom needed some woodwork replaced- and also quite a few windows didn't open- not brilliant in the heat! HOWEVER/ it wasn’t expensive and these things didn’t detract from our stay. I would say- if you don’t have a car, get a shopping delivered! And- the beach isn’t a beach!

Fantastic location within walking distance of shops, sea front & Adventure Island. Malcolm was warm, friendly & efficient. All appliances were in working order. The flat, contents, maintenance & cleanliness reminded us of student accommodation. The weather was hot & sunny. We had a very enjoyable stay.

About the neighbourhood
Five of the Many Good Reasons for Visiting Southend-on-Sea in Essex, The Beaches. The coastline has several beaches at nearby Shoeburyness, Thorpe Bay, Westcliff-on-Sea, Leigh-on-Sea and Chalkwell as well as the main one in Southend-on-Sea. Here you will find the longest amusement pier in the world where you can walk or catch a train one and a quarter miles to the end. This is also the beginning of the Golden Mile with many restaurant, bars and amusements. Next to the Pier is the Sea Life Centre and the world famous Adventure Island, a must for all the children with its many rides and facilities. Old Leigh, A short distance away (2/3 miles) is Old Leigh (the old town of Leigh-on-Sea) where you can sample the offerings of 5 different pubs in one street, the Crooked Billet, the Peterboat, The Smack, The Ship and the Mayflower as well as the internationally renowned Boatyard Restaurant and the recently opened Simply Seafood Restaurant. There's also, a tea shop, fish & chips, fresh fish stalls as well as the world famous Leigh Cockle Sheds. Hadleigh A little further along the coast, you will find the historic Hadleigh Castle, built by King Henry 111 in 1232. A painting by John Constable of Hadleigh Castle is now exhibited in the Yale Centre of British Art at Newhaven in the United States. One of his earlier sketches is currently displayed at the Tate Gallery. This ancient structure is considered to be the most important late-medieval castle in Essex and is preserved by English Heritage as a Grade I listed building. The ruins of the castle are the most prominent historical landmark in the local surrounding area and provided part of the name for the borough of Castle Point in 1974. 4) London If you wish to visit London, Southend-on-Sea makes an ideal base. A lot of visitors take the opportunity to visit London by train. It takes just 45 - 55 minutes to leave Southend Central Station and arrive at Fenchurch Street Station, just a few yards from the Tower of London, where you are a short bus or tube train ride to everything London has to offer. There are always special family deals on the railway, making it a viable alternative to actually staying in London. The Beautiful Essex Countryside Drive for just 10 - 15 minutes and you are in the beautiful Essex countryside with its many award winning villages. A little further and you are in the ancient town of Colchester and then Constable country and East Anglia and some of the most picturesque landscapes in the country. The poet Laureate Sir John Betjeman was a frequent visitor to Southend-on-Sea and spoke of the wonderful sea air he breathed following the short train journey from his home in London. He wrote 'The vagrant visitor erstwhile,' ;My colour-plate book says to me ;Could wend by hedgerow-side and stile, From Benfleet down to Leigh-on-Sea. A bronze bust of Sir John is on permanent exhibition at the Beecroft Art Gallery in Westcliff and one of the famous Southend Pier trains is named after him.If you are visiting Southend-on-Sea in Essex, the nearest seaside town to London, self-catering is an excellent idea whether for, families, couples or friends. Compared to staying in a hotel, self-catering accommodation gives you so much flexibility when you are away from home. You can come and go as you want, you can cook your own meals or have a snack whenever you want, PLUS you have your own living space with 2 bedrooms, lounge as well as a fitted kitchen and bathroom.
