Alton, Staffordshire, England
Old Castle Inn is a large converted public house full of character and with unusual architectural features, close to Alton Towers and the beautiful Peak National Park.

The beautiful village of Alton sits above the Churnet Valley adjacent to glorious Dimmingsdale on the edge of the Peak District. It is ideal for walkers and cyclists (a disused railway line passes through the village).
It is situated less than 5 minutes from Alton Towers resort - a bus is available from the bottom of the road.
The village has 5 pubs, most of which offer good food, and an excellent restaurant on the same street as the property.

Nearby are the historic towns of Ashbourne and Cheadle (with it's fine Pugin church). Leek , with William Morris trail, a little further away (30 mins) and the spa town of Buxton with Opera house and many cultural events 45 mins...

We had a family birthday celebration for 10 of us (ranging in age from 7 months to 60plus. ) The house was perfect for communal meals and affording space where needed. We enjoyed great local walks and pub lunches and everyone loved the quirky character of the house. A success all round .

My family and I visited the Old Castle Inn during the first weekend of the year, to celebrate my sister’s 40th birthday. The space and provisions were perfect for our needs and meant our party of eleven could relax in comfort. Kids and adults alike enjoyed exploring the property’s nooks and crannies, whilst the beautiful surrounding countryside meant the outdoors...

We booked the house for a group of friends and young children to use as a base for a trip to Alton Towers. The house was brilliant - big bedrooms and plenty of room for all of us (6 adults and 6 children). The kids in particular loved the quirkiness of the house and the huge choice of toys, there...

With several pubs, a park with children's play area, woodland and river walks, a post office, mini-mart, restaurant and conservation area, the village is both historic and attractive. Two summer shows in the village, situated in the castle and school grounds, play host to live music, tug-o-war and traditional games.
