We love staying at cabins near hiking destinations, and this is far from our first time in the Hocking Hills area, which we love in the winter! The cabin has some really good points--very comfortable for 2, with a separate bedroom for another couple or kids. The bathroom and kitchen are nice, and the cabin is open and cozy feeling. The indoor wood burning fireplace is great for winter stays, with a big TV mounted above. We usually don't watch much TV but with some torrential rains and covid19 preventing other activities, it was nice to have an alternative for much of one of the days we were there. The location was great for visiting the local trails.
There were some not so good things though. First, we did look for a place with a hot tub to use after cold days hiking, but we would not think of using it after raising the cover. The water level was way below the jets and had an overall very rusted/dirty look on the cover and sides, and water. So that was a bust. Second, the pictures show the outside with trees that cover how close this is to a major road with fast traffic, and of course it wasn't even covered by trees/leaves in the winter. It did not feel private, not a feeling of being in the woods, but if you like xmas lights there was a big display in the glass blowing business across the road. It would not have been that comfortable to be in the hot tub or spending time on the porch, though we did use the nice outside fire pit one night. On the plus side, once we were inside the cabin, we did not hear the road noise at all (only when you opened the door). However, the furnace and hot tub were pretty loud in the cabin (hot tub prob because the water was below the jet level).
Finally, we were stuck inside most of one day because of rain, and the power went out. I know this is not a negative as this stuff happens, but we left a message on the phone and emailed and did not receive any response. Yes, the power went on in a couple of hours, but no check in to see if all was well. And this is after we had sent another email with a question about the wood that was not answered. So, we didn't feel they were very responsive, even if not critical.
So, in summary, nice cabin and close to trails, but not private feeling at all outside, unusable hot tub, and unresponsive agency. Still, we had a great time hiking and snuggling on the couch by the fire!
