Quiet and secluded, tucked away at the edge of native Sitka spruce and hemlock forest, our lovingly furnished house is an easy one block to the beach. MONSOON SPECIAL: Stay a 3rd night for free anytime during the off-season... The 1000-sq-ft wraparound deck offers a unique reverse-birds-eye view up into the huge trees just feet away. Wildlife abounds, the landscaping with native foliage blending seamlessly into the woods. The house has been completely remodeled, with hardwood interiors, lots of skylights and vaulted ceilings. A (tiny, very cute) 'kid's bunkhouse' sleeps 2 and adjoins the deck near the bedrooms. Reflecting my love of cooking, the airy, spacious kitchen has lots of counter space, plethora of cooking utensils and appliances (microwave, coffee-maker, blender, etc., although no dishwasher). Charcoal barbecue available on the kitchen patio. One seating area of the living room centers around the fireplace with comfy sofas. Another area is geared toward entertainment. Dining nook comprises the third area. High-speed WiFi is free, so movies can be streamed (or of course DVDs) to the flat screen monitor. The built-in hardwood bookcases are chock full of rainy-day entertainment: extensive library of books, DVDs, and board games. Beds: 1 King Bed, 1 Double Bed, 3 Twin Beds, 1 Sofa BedMore
House Rules
Pets Allowed: Yes
Smoking Allowed: No
Kid Friendly: Yes
Dogs & their Humans: Please, please observe the rule about allowing no dogs on the furniture. This does include even your own little guy who wouldn’t dream of shedding… To be serious: The renter after you may not be a pet owner and has a right to expect a pristinely clean house. Our housecleaner’s time is limited (3 hours), and hand vacuuming dog hair off couches or beds, as we all know, takes a tremendous amount of time.

This is for the Guardenia Street house... I can give this place my wholehearted commendation. It is EXACTLY as advertised, and then even better. Do NOT stay here if you desire "luxury digs" and fancy smanshy furnishings... DO stay here if you want somewhere that...More

January is an amazing time to stay at the Idyllic Beach House. The "monsoon special" allowed us an extra day at a great price, and the alternating stormy seas and sunbreaks made it an unforgettable experience. When the rain was pounding on the skylights and...More

We stayed 3 nights and enjoyed ourselves reasonably well. The house is one block from the beach on a walk down a quiet gravel street that ends at a very short trail up and over the dune to the beach. The house is not fancy...More

Glad to hear you had a good time. Just to clarify, our "Monsoon Special," which runs throughout the off-season, actually provides a completely free 3rd night, not just a discounted rate. I am sorry the towels issue caused you problems! The reason for our policy...More

Thanks John for the lovely review. Can't say how impressive a 115-mile bike ride (modestly refraining from mentioning that this includes pedalling up and over the Coast Range) sounds to me! Susy

About the neighbourhood
Off the Beaten Track...For 40 miles, Highway 101 turns inland between Tillamook and Lincoln City, 5 miles north of Pacific City and due west of Portland. But running along the coastline (and unknown to most travelers) is beautiful 3 Capes Road. Nestled between 2 of the majestic capes is the tiny beach-front community of Tierra del Mar. This is the Oregon Coast of the old days. Even at the height of the summer season, you can usually walk for miles without encountering another person. The beach runs from Cape Kiwanda nearly to Cape Lookout, 8 to 10 miles of mostly deserted white sandy beach. Backing on miles of protected land, a walk in either direction on the beach passes nothing but natural bluffs and grasslands.
Getting around
Although a car is highly recommended, other modes of local transport include bicycle (rentals nearby); horseback (bring your own or 'rentals' nearby with beach access for horses from our house); surfboard/scuba (rentals nearby); jet ski/kayak (rentals nearby); boat (marina/dock nearby); and of course feet (bring your own - footwear optional).
