We will definitely return to A Place in the Pines! Clean, comfortable, nicely appointed. Felt secluded since it is set back and up on hill from street, and easy to get to Ohiopyle, trails, Kentuck Knob, Fort Necessity, etc. We were looking to take a vacation while being safe during pandemic and able to work a bit with Wi-Fi access....A Place in the Pines worked out perfectly for us!

This is a small, old cabin that's been nicely updated. It was perfect for the two of us celebrating our 40th anniversary. It was convenient to the Ohiopyle trail we wanted to bike on. As this is on a hill, there is road washout from the road to the driveway and a low car will bottom out on it. The outside could use a power wash in the hot tub area. When you enter you immediately can smell the wood smoke from the unusable fireplace. The inside was immaculate and clean. As this cabin is old, the floors slant and you can feel it. With the slanted floors, the bed is positioned that your feet are higher than your head. The bed itself was terribly uncomfortable as the mattress needs to be replaced. I held on for dear life so as not to roll into the middle for two nights and I gave up and slept on the couch the last night we were there. The hot tub is nice, but was extremely chemically smelling so we only used it once. I used the washer and dryer........the dryer was particularly VERY noisy and should probably be replaced also. All in all, cute property, but it needs attention to these few details. I'd recommend, but only with a "heads up" of the issues.

Inside of the cottage was clean and had everything needed to make our stay enjoyable. There were many close by activities and we loved The Stone House restaurant. Id have to say the only down side was the cottage had a strong odor of cigars , and I felt like the nightly rate was misrepresented in the on line ad ( $100 extra per night for weekends is a bit steep )!

First off, some of the good points: The location was perfect for access to Ohiopyle and Quebec Run, and for visiting Kentuck Knob and Fallingwater. It is cool under the trees, and most of the cabin was clean. I particularly liked the well equipped kitchen. However, there are significant negatives: The washed out entry point from road to driveway is still an issue. The main living room smells like smoke from the old (and not usable) fireplace. The shower/bathtub was dirty and did not drain well, so that showers were in 2-3" of standing water after a few minutes. The hot tub, which we really looked forward to and specifically booked the cabin for, was pretty disgusting. It was dirty and treated improperly with chemicals. We were only able to use it twice, then gave up as we couldn't even breathe through the chlorine mist and we came out smelling like bleach. The grill is for charcoal (you must bring your own charcoal), but the bottom is rusted through so we didn't use that. The fire pit is oddly located right next to the hot tub and in an area that became a lake when it rained. After it dried out, my husband dug about 10" of burnt wood/charcoal out of it to make it usable (you must bring your own wood). The washer and dryer work, but are *very* loud when operated. As we paid $250 per night for a long holiday weekend, we did not feel that it was worth it and will not rent this property again.

The house is exactly as pictured. Plenty of room for the two of us and our small dog. TV and wifi worked well. Even though it was hot out, up under the pine trees, it was a lot cooler and we had the windows open to catch the breezes (AC worked well, and we did use it some). The only thing to watch out for is the driveway where it meets the road. The drive is gravel and difficult to see until you know where it is. There is a red ORV sign, but we didn't catch it the first time. The gravel was a bit washed out, so there was a hole and we had to be careful driving in and out. Ohiopyle is just a short drive away, and the same for both Kentuck Knob and Falling Water, Overall, it was a great stay.

It was winter, and snowy that weekend. It sounds like the first sentence of a good book. It was a great story and adventure away with my wife. We were looking for a 2 day get away with a short drive from home. We have traveled though the area many times and this was a great way to finally spend our time and money in the mountains. Similar to any beach vacation rental, everything was meticulously included. We brought things just as we would to the beach or any other rental house. We were looking for a private place to get away from it all and this fit the bill. The hot tub was the #1 requirement of our trip. With the weather ice cold the hot tub hot, made it even better! Our short hair had icicles in them in no time! As it was the winter and the combination of the forced air heating, the dry air and the chlorine from the hot tub, BRING MOISTURIZING LOTION if you are prone to dry skin. I was itchy from the amount of time i spent in the hot tub, a welcome side effect from the luxury at the property. The rooms were the perfect size and the living room, kitchen and dining room were all in one. Bedroom and bathroom are sized well for the house. Unfortunately, the fireplace was not functional contrary to the advertisement of the property. There are plenty of places to visit. The restaurants we ate at were all very very good. All in All, what a hidden gem this is. We definitively will consider another winter trip to this place.
