Relax in this cozy 2 bedroom cottage, nestled on a 575 wooded acre preserve with a rushing native trout stream flowing through the property and a series of mini water falls with a huge cool soothing swimming hole. There is an abundance of wildlife, an exceptionally pristine natural wooded landscape. Perfect for a quiet romantic getaway. Entering the driveway, one begins a slow descent into the relaxed, other-worldly aura of the peaceful, bucolic and mysterious Dwarfskill Glen, traveling half a mile before reaching the cottage, the four-bedroom vintage main lodge and a small one-room cabin (both also available). From the top of the driveway, one can see a far ridge, which is part of the Dwarfskill Preserve Property. The open combined kitchen, dining and living area in the cottage is all knotty pine with wood floors, ceiling fan, cathedral ceiling with French doors overlooking a back lawn/meadow, with a picnic table, charcoal grill, abutting the forest. Two small bedrooms, each with queen size beds. Comfortable furniture, gas stove and kitchen stocked with necessary dishes, cookware and spices. Immaculately clean, with quality bed and bath linens. The Dwarfskill creek is just down a path through the woods; it can be heard babbling through the dense hemlock and pine forest as it rushes downstream to Split Rock Falls (ten minute walk from the cottage). More than a mile of the Dwarfskill, which is a naturally-reproducing trout stream that runs through the property. The cabin is located five miles from Milford, PA, which Atlantic Magazine once called “the prettiest county seat in America”; three-quarters of the village is in a National Historic District and it offers many galleries, antique shops, coffee shops, boutiques, restaurants and specialty shopping. Heritage attractions include Grey Towers (a Normanesque, stone Richard Morris Hunt-designed 19th c. stone mansion that was the home of the Pinchot family), The Columns Museum (featuring the blood-stained Lincoln flag, which cushioned the President's head moments after he was shot) and the Hotel Fauchere/Relais & Chateaux with its three restaurants, patisserie, day spa, vintage menu collection and permanent exhibit of Hudson River School paintings. The day spa, Badea & Soul, offers massages, facials and body scrubs/wraps in the comfort of your cottage rental, by pre-arranged appointment. Milford is adjacent to the 70,000 acre Delaware Water Gap National Park, with miles of hiking and biking trails, a network of waterfalls and the pristine Delaware River, federally protected for nearly 100 miles, with great canoeing, tubing, kayaking, etc.More

We had an absolutely lovely 4-day getaway at this cottage. The owner, Sean, was very accommodating and easy to get in touch with. An added bonus is that the cottage is pet-friendly, allowing us to bring our dog. The cottage has a beautiful blonde wood interior and is decorated in a warm but unfussy style. There is a lovely wood stove and a large selection of books to choose from as well as inviting throw blankets should you wish to stay indoors. The kitchen is equipped with all the household things you would need to cook meals at home or to prepare food on the gas-powered grill outside. There is a picnic table on the lawn behind the cottage so that you can eat your meals outside as well. There is also a place to make a campfire. The cottage is provided with plenty of sheets and towels, including a dog towel. The property itself is very large and some of it is dense woods, so you probably won't explore all of it. However, the creek, beautiful waterfalls, and the dam and swimming hole are a short walk from the cottage and definitely worth visiting. In fact, you can hear the rushing water from the cottage porch. The swimming hole has a nice wooden deck with a ladder leading you right into the water, and there is a wooden cabin with changing rooms next to the deck. We saw various wildlife during our stay: two deer visited the lawn directly behind our cottage, and we also saw owls and hawks at relatively close range. There are also black bears on the property, but we did not see any. The owner has provided the cottage with a binder full of information about local attractions, nearby state parks, hours of operation of local shops, maps, etc. Whether you enjoy exploring a quaint small town or hiking the great outdoors, you should find plenty to keep you busy. The property has two other dwellings which are available for rent: a larger main lodge and a smaller cabin. Although there were guests at the cabin for part of our stay, we barely noticed them. Each dwelling is oriented in a different direction so that you can easily enjoy a private evening on your porch or a barbecue on your lawn without ever seeing your neighbors. In short, a great retreat that we hope to return to many times.
