"Pura Vida" is a phrase used in Costa Rica that means "Pure Life" or "Full of Life". This property definitely lives up to that name with its hand cut and crafted wooden floors, walls and accents. All of the wood and stone in this home has been hand-selected from the trees and creek that exist on the property. The kitchen cabinets are crafted from reclaimed wood that was once part of Arnold Palmer's Club House. Whitetail Deer Antler fixtures, hand-crafted Sassafras wood stair railings and so much more bring nature to life within Pura Vida. Outdoor Fire Pit on site. High Speed Internet and Satellite TV! Great place to stay in Ohiopyle. We enjoyed the serene, peaceful surroundings that Pura Vida provided. Clean house with large property... which the kids and dogs enjoyed. Super quiet but close enough to access what you need. Technology (WiFi / TV) seemed to work as expected. There are a few weathered / dilapidated barns on the property which - depending on your perspective - are either creepy or provide more character to environment. We saw beautiful deer walk through one morning. One issue we had (which is a bit disappointing to have to write as I see it was mentioned in reviews over two years ago !!) is that the upstairs shower is quite difficult to operate. You can’t get good balance between hot and cold water. Either hot or freezing. Someone needs to get a plumber in there to finally fix...kind of a big deal if a place really only has one shower and more than one family staying. Additionally, the water pressure was generally low to point where only one of two showers could be used at a time. (This is only reason why I give it a 4 out 5 rating) The fire pit is awesome! (Only concern is that you can’t see the main house from the fire pit so you may feel a bit apprehensive to let kids stay in house...I wish there was perhaps a smaller pit closer to the house) Overall, you can’t go wrong with this place !! Perfect balance if you are looking for a rustic feel but with modern amenities!

Our stay at Pura Vida was awesome! We explored Ohiopyle and Nemacolin Resort. The best time was spent at the cabin, sled riding and building snowmen. Pura Vida is awesome. It's secluded but close to everything... restaurants and winery a short drive away. Took our pup who enjoyed running the property and will sleep for days! Would recommend this cabin for any season.

Our first impression of the property caused some uncertainty. There are several collapsing buildings on the property surrounding the house. However, once inside we were very happy with the house. It was very clean, the linens and towels seemed to be new. The kitchen was well supplied with glasses, cups and cutlery and all appliances worked well. However, there were only 12 large plates and bowls and no small ones. The internet connection is unfortunately weak and unstable. The property is secluded and we enjoyed seeing deer and turkeys in the yard. We would rent this property again.

My family and my sister's family stayed in this property for 5 nights in August 2017. The house is delightful and very private. The wood floors and paneling are charming and the stuffed birds and animals throughout the home add some character, though they might not be for everyone. The upstairs is carpeted throughout and was clean. The rooms and linens were clean and the beds were comfortable. The location on the edge of Ohiopyle State Park is very convenient for park access. Unfortunately, on the first night we encountered a mouse in the kitchen and then on further investigation we found mouse droppings in most of the lower kitchen cabinets and drawers, including the drawers with the cutlery and crockery, and under the sink. There were even mouse droppings in the cutlery tray compartments. The droppings were not all fresh and had clearly been there for weeks or months without being cleaned. We called Ohiopyle Vacation Rentals the next morning, which was a Friday. We got an answering service and had to call several times but eventually we spoke to someone who was very apologetic and said they would send someone out to clean the kitchen and set traps. Unfortunately, when we returned that evening all we discovered were some traps on the porch and some peanut butter for bait. Nobody had entered the house and the kitchen had not been touched. I called again multiple times Friday evening and on Saturday and became increasingly frustrated that nobody responded. Each time the phone was answered by an answering service that assured me that someone would get back to us right away, but nobody called back for the entire weekend, even after the answering service promised to escalate the matter. Eventually I gave up. Meanwhile, we had to clean all the crockery and cutlery ourselves and cook and eat in that kitchen. Saturday evening, we saw another mouse running through living room so we set the traps ourselves and caught two mice that night. Monday morning, we still had not heard from Ohiopyle Vacation Rentals so I called again after their office was open and again I got the answering service and nobody responded for two hours. I asked them to come and clean the kitchen and remove the dead mice. Eventually I got a text saying that they would send someone out to come and clean, but unbelievably when we returned Monday night all we found was a bottle of disinfectant and a cloth outside on the porch. Again, nobody had entered the house. The drawers still contained mouse droppings and the dead mice and traps were untouched. At this point we felt insulted. We were being taken advantage of, and certainly not being taken seriously. It is not our responsibility as renters to spend time on our vacation cleaning and disinfecting their kitchen. It is reasonable to expect occasional mice in a country house, but it is not reasonable to expect mouse feces in the kitchen cupboards and drawers. On Tuesday after we checked out we took the time to drive over to their rental office and complain in person. They agreed to give us a 30% discount (the maximum the employee was authorized to offer) but unfortunately that did not erase the frustration and annoyance that we experienced and the cloud that it cast over our vacation. The customer service director was out that week. We asked that she call us back to discuss this matter and were assured that she would, but it has now been several weeks and we never received a call, or even an apologetic email. This is no way to run a business. In conclusion, we cannot recommend the company (Ohiopyle Vacation Rentals) that manages this property. On their web site, they say “each home is cleaned and inspected before your arrival” but our experience is that the inspection is not very thorough. They will take your money (we were required to pay in full before arriving) and then ignore your phone calls if there is a problem. A vacation rental company must be accessible 7 days a week if problems such as this arise. They were not. We would have forgiven them for the mouse problem if they had been responsive and cleaned the kitchen and set traps on the first day, or if even on the second day, but increasingly it became clear that they were not interested in addressing our problem and that felt even worse. We had to show up in person at their office to get their attention. You would think that at least they would reach out to us after the fact and apologize profusely, but they never did. We will not do business with Ohiopyle Vacation Rentals again.

This cabin in the woods was amazing! Like the other reviews mentioned, it was well equipped, internet for streaming music, satellite TV, and the basics needed for a weekend stay! We booked through OVR and brought extra supplies as suggested! The cabin was great, clean, and spacious! The property was also amazing! Plenty of room for the dogs to run. The fire pit was a bit far from the house, and we had a hard time finding it! If anyone is looking for the fire pit, towards the road behind the large garage!! We would definitely recommend this place to others!

This home is just as described - welcoming, well-equipped, comfortable, nestled in a beautiful woodsy setting surrounded by Ohiopyle State Park. We rented the house for a weekend get-together/birthday celebration and couldn't have been more pleased. The amenities were abundant, including internet service that tried valiantly to keep up with 10 folks who just couldn't stay off the grid for a weekend, and the OVR staff were responsive to the one minor glitch we experienced. There are 6 double- or queen-sized beds in 3 bedrooms as well as a large sectional sofa which provided ample sleeping arrangements for our group. Pay close attention to what is and is not provided: you can meet all your basic needs with what's there but will want to supplement for gourmet cooking or luxury demands (we were glad we brought a garlic press, good knives, hand juicer, extra towels, large sauté pan, etc). The wrap-around porch is not screened so be sure to bring insect repellant during the warm months - my souvenirs include a few no-see-um bites.

We met family and friends at Pura Vida. We had 4 young boys, who had plenty of space in the inside and out side of the house. Very clean & well planned rental cabin with 3 bedrooms & 2 full bathrooms. It was nestled in the woods near Ohiopyle State Park. WE didn't see a car go by the two days we were there. The kitchen was lovely with a dining table at the end of the room. There are many places to visit within a half hour drive. We visited Ohiopyle State Park, which was a good place to take youngsters. The adults visited Frank Loyd Wright's Falling Waters home & Kentuck Knob was closeby. Nemacolin Resort, with a golf course & casino were nearby. Also, there is a Civil War Battlefield close, too. Overall, it was a wonderful experience for everyone that attended.
