The flow of water changes with the tides and offers a unique atmosphere to the house as you lie in your bed listening to the soothing sound of the water flowing. For more information and photos of the interior and exterior click on the images link on the left. Located on a 20 acre croft, we offer:- 2 bedrooms sleeping 4 people Wireless broadband Fridge/Freezer Dishwasher Real coal fire and oil central heating Tasteful decor using Farrow and Ball colours Peace and relaxation. Great Bernera is a very scenic island, and is the perfect location to indulge in walking, fishing and birdwatching. Our house is located in an excellent area for walking, with a way marked circular coastal walk leading from your door to the magnificent beach at Bosta where in 1996 archaeological excavations revealed the site of an Iron Age settlement. Elsewhere in Bernera, other walks you can enjoy are to a Norse Mill or to an iron age Broch at Loch Baravat. For the more energetic, sea-kayaking can be enjoyed from the shore at the bottom of the drive, giving access over to Uig and the beautiful islands in between. Valasay is a forty-minute drive from Stornoway, and is ideally placed to explore the very scenic and historical district of Uig, or the west-side loop of Lewis that includes the world famous Standing Stones at Callanish, and the Arnol Blackhouse. Whether you want to experience the Gaelic culture at the new Arts Centre, catch a trout or two for tea or just relax in front of the open fire, Valasay has something special to affer everyone. In the words of one of our guests 'Fabulous everything - house, Island, hospitality, stuff to see & do, weather - everything WOW! A real escape, already plotting our return.' More

Very good place for staying at the remote west coast of Lewis. Great for exploring Great Bernera. Really dark at night, therefore wonderful starry skies, sometimes even Aurora lights from inside.

The Valasay Crofthouse has everything you need for an enjoyable stay. It is located at the start of a beautiful walk to what must be one of the most beautiful beaches in the UK. Check out Seatrek on Uig for an adventure on the water!

We stayed in this lovely cottage for week in late July 2022. It is wild, remote and beautiful. The house is very comfortable for a family of 4, with 2 teenagers. The beds are comfy, it was spotlessly clean and well appointed. The wifi was reliable - very important for teenagers! We loved this as a base for exploring Lewis and Harris and although everything is a drive, it is a lovely drive that became easier every day. The closest beach, at Bosta, was my favourite on the island.

Need to get away from it all? Valasay crofthouse is your place. Wonderful location with incredible panoramic views of the intricate coastal landscape of Great Bernera. The house is spacious, well kitted out and warm, so while the winds blow (and they do on Lewis) the house is well defended and just the place to watch the weather in comfort. Well placed for longer walks like the one to Bosta or just exploring the many old ruined crofts and amazing rocky shore and salt marsh. If there is one drawback then Valasay is at the end of the road, so any exploration beyond Great Bernera requires a bit of back and forth travelling, but it is hardly a major drawback, especially if, like us, you get to watch golden eagles soaring across the landscape by the road. Anne and Chris are very helpful as well. Highly recommend this place for anyone wanting to get away from it all and relax.

Return visit to Valasay Crofthouse to visit relatives nearby. The Accomodation is a really high standard with everything you might require, even Netflix! Very well located for walking and exploring the area. Hosts were most helpful and everything including flowers and cake were provided on arrival. Highly recommended!

A very comfortable and well-presented holiday home. Anne (owner) welcomed us on arrival and gave us all the information we needed to enjoy our stay. Lovely views over the sea loch in front of the house - a bird-watcher's paradise! We enjoyed the fine circular walk up the coast to Bosta beach with its interesting remains of an iron age village. The amazing standing stones at Callanish and the imposing broch at Carloway are just a short drive away, so no shortage of things to see. The weather was great too!

We had a wonderful time at Valasay Crofthouse celebrating our honeymoon. The accommodation was well-equipped, spacious, clean and warm- just what we needed with the Hebridean weather! Anne was a fantastic host- really friendly and helpful when we arrived. The fresh flowers and delicious ginger cake waiting for us when we arrived made us feel very welcome. We hope to visit again soon!

A lovely comfortable cottage, well appointed and with plenty of space. The owner was very helpful providing lots of information on our arrival and during our stay. The location of the cottage is very special with its view over the sea loch and as a place to watch the changes in the tides. Would highly recommend!

Just Amazing!! We had a great holiday in Valasay Crofthouse. So much so our daughter wanted to stay here forever. The location is just stunning and the accommodation is home away from home. It is exceptionally well presented property with top quality amenities and is spotlessly clean, one of the best presented properties we have stayed in. The beds were super comfy with crisp white bed linens. There were plenty of family games to choose from, books to read. And everything you need to have a super family holiday. Anne and Chris are wonderful people, and a super host. Anne gave us all the relevant details/ information for the places to visit etc. We all loved the delicious welcome cake. It was a perfect location for us to explore. Loved having our morning cuppa on the footbridge with sound of water flowing and admiring the stunning surroundings. Highly recommended. Thanks to Anne and Chris.
