It offers a setting in which to relax and appreciate the tranquility of island atmosphere and is only 5 mins from the beautiful beach of Bosta, which sites a reconstructed, fully working Iron Age house and a Marcus Vergette art installation, The Time & Tide bell. The house is located in a stunning setting and to make the most of this, the living room and kitchen have been positioned looking out to sea, patio doors lead out from the living room onto a large decked area which is furnished with a table and chairs so you can relax while making the most of the view. Some extra touches have been added to ensure you are as comfortable as possible during your stay. An aga stove is in the living room making sure the house is nice and cosy. All beds are fitted with Kaymed spinal support mattresses aiming to reduce any pressure from build up leading to neck, back and joint pains during sleep. The house has been built with 'Supawall' insulation and is very eco friendly. The bathroom has a whirlpool bath with 21 jets (base, side, back and reflexology and 7 colours). The bath has a directional flow valve allowing you to isolate various jets to help relaxation and focus in on certain problematic areas of the body... just the thing at the end of a tiring day exploring the islands! A spacious and comfortable house with a lovely large decking area and great views, sadly no Northern Lights when we were there! Lots of lovely beaches to visit and superb walking. Kitchen was specious with cooker, dishwasher and washing machine. Could have done with more crockery, cooking equipment etc. A very enjoyable stay.

Only stayed here for 3 nights as we were travelling through the isles but so wished it could have been longer. Great Bernera is a lovely place and the Ard cottage was a great find. It was spotless and in a perfect location with everything we needed. Had an early morning run in the sunshine to Bosta beach which was magical.

We enjoyed our stay here and found it a great base for walking, cycling and general exploring. It was clean, comfortable and cosy, looked just like the photos. Beautiful views from the decking and through the French doors, and a very quiet location.

We were looking for a place to escape to for a week and found this lovely place. It’s a great base to explore Lewis, the beaches, wildlife, local crafts/arts and archeology. The house is warm and had very good facilities, it was very clean and there were flowers on arrival. Norma is a good host and there if you need her, I’d highly recommend staying here.

We loved our fortnights stay in The Ard. We were warm, comfortable, and had a great view. We asked Norma if she could get us some lobster, and she ptovided us with two, perfectly cooked by her mother in law. On arrival we found fresh flowers, freshly baked scones, and a bottle of prosecco. This is our second stay in this lovely cottage and we hope to return.

We stayed for 3 nights (should have stayed longer!) at the beautiful Ard. Everything you could possibly need in this cosy and wonderfully appointed home. The bath was amazing at the end of each day. Thank you Norma for the warm welcome and home made scones.
