Outside there's a private terrace garden with barbecue, an orchard with giant trampoline, space for ball games, and horses, chickens, lambs, and rare-breed piglets to visit in their homes. In short, The Barn at Cotmore Farm provides all the comforts of home in an idyllic countryside setting. The front door opens to an elegant hallway. On the left, a large bookcase filled with paperback and hardback fiction, reference books and local history, and an excellent selection of children's picture books, will tempt you to browse and borrow. To the right, the master bedroom with en-suite is furnished with a kingsize bed. Next door a private laundry room has washing, drying and ironing facilities. The spacious second bedroom offers twin beds that cleverly convert to a luxurious super-kingsize. A third bed can be made available in this room, giving multiple configuration options, and a cot is available if required at no extra charge. A glass balustraded staircase leads to the first floor, a lovely, light-filled space, with high ceilings, exposed beams and roof lights, offering expansive, open-plan living. At one end of this 35-foot-long room is a fully equipped kitchen and dining area, with views to the garden and farm courtyard. At the other, two comfortable leather sofas, a widescreen satellite TV, and a high-end Scandinavian woodburner offer a congenial space to relax of an evening. Double French doors give onto a sunny private terraced garden, with outdoor dining facilities and barbecue. From the terrace, a path leads to a sheltered apple orchard with a trampoline and a grassy area perfect for a game of football, badminton or croquet. Horses, cats, chickens, Shetland sheep, and rare breed piglets provide feeding opportunities for animal-loving children (and adults!), while birdwatchers will delight in the abundance of visitors to our many tables and feeders – a visiting ornithologist recently identified over 50 species in and around the farm. And since we're barely a mile from the South West Coast Path, walkers (and their dogs) will not want for new routes to explore. The Barn is one of three imaginatively converted farm buildings at Cotmore Farm. The others are Rose Cottage, a former stable block offering luxurious single-storey accommodation for two, and Appletree Cottage, which accommodates 4/5 in two bedrooms, with a fabulous open-plan living space above, opening onto a private terrace carved out of a green Devon bank.More

Interaction with guests
We like to welcome guests personally on arrival, show them in, and give a brief introduction to the farm and the area. After that, guests are left to their own devices, but we are never far away when needed, and can be found either in the Farmhouse, or about the place, tending to the livestock and carrying our our duties. We are always happy to recommend a walk to suit your level of adventurousness, a beach appropriate to the prevailing tide or wind direction, or a place to eat commensurate with your appetite and wallet!

The perfect location. With a young family the cottage was perfect and Piers and Sue made it really special. Giving our son the opportunity to feed the lambs and lead one of the horses into the stables. The trampoline is also fantastic for making sure...More

I went to Cotmore Farm with my wife, mother and 3-year-old boy for a long weekend. Exeter was frightfully crowded when our train arrived, but over the phone Piers (the farm's owner) went out of his way to help us get find a rental car,...More

About the neighbourhood
Many miles of safe, award-winning beaches offer swimming, rockpooling, and sunbathing opportunities, while watersports - particularly surfing, windsurfing, sailing, waterskiing and parasailing - are popular and widely available. There are facilities for golf, sailing, horseriding, tennis, and river- and sea fishing all within 30 minutes' drive of the property. Walkers and their dogs will appreciate the attractions of miles of quiet lanes, footpaths, bridleways, and the renowned South Devon Coast Path, while stargazers will glory in the complete absence of artificial light, which makes the Milky Way regularly visible with the naked eye. The area is hugely popular with birdwatchers: Start Point is on a major migration route, Slapton Ley is an overwintering spot for rare overseas visitors, a...
Getting around
Our nearest railway station is Totnes, some 40 minutes' drive away. It is on the main line between London and Penzance, which means hourly trains in both directions. The journey time to London Paddington is approximately 3 hours. Public buses run from Totnes station to Kingsbridge and Dartmouth, our nearest towns, and the Route 3 bus, which runs from Dartmouth to Kingsbridge and then on to Plymouth, stops in the village of Chillington, a mile from the farm. Most visitors come to Cotmore by car; we are approximately 50 minutes south east of Plymouth and some 70 minutes south west of Exeter. Once arrived, walking and cycling are popular ways to get around.
