This was a comfortable rental with everything we could want for our week's stay. We particularly liked the rural situation with a short distance into Stromness. It was an ideal location for exploring Orkney.
One small negative detail--the furniture showed considerable staining due to heavy use. Other than this, everything was clean. The property is very suitable for families with young families and a dog.

Absolutely beautiful!
This beautiful house has everything you need for a relaxing stay. It’s a home from home and there is nothing that hasn’t been thought of. The house even has toys, which we didn’t use because our children are much older, but even so, they are there if needed. There is a dishwasher, a washing machine, a freezer, wonderful drying facilities and even an iron and a hairdryer! The beds were oh so comfy and everything was perfect. We had dealings with both Kerry and Tara, who were absolutely delightful and couldn’t do enough to help us - thank you, Kerry and Tara. We were able to use the garage to store our bikes as well. The views from the house are amazing and the location of the house is perfect too - just out of Stromness but you can still see the whole of it. Perfect for people who want to take their bikes as Stromness is close enough to bike down to. Overall, this house is absolutely amazing and we wouldn’t hesitate to stay again. Thank you for a wonderful, relaxing holiday, in a house that has everything you will ever need to make it so.

Review of Ben Alder
A very spacious and well equipped property just outside of Stromness with lovely views across to the harbour and hills. Very conveniently placed for visiting the main neolithic sites and for catching car ferry to Hoy from nearby Houton. We had a delightful time at the property - a wonderful base for our stay.

Excellent week in Ben Alder
We had a great week in this very comfortable bungalow. The views are great and it is very well equipped. It is easy walking distance to Stromness - just over a mile along a farm track and through the industrial estate to a path by the school playing field. Kerry and Tara could not have been more helpful. We would definitely recommend it.

Good location.
The property was clean, spacious and comfortable. The location is very convenient with lovely views.
However there isn't a freezer, not even a section in the fridge, so we couldn't freeze the ice packs for the cool box. But apart from that the house is well equiped.

A Week in Stromness
overall the property was very good and location was excellent with wonderful views over Stromness and the harbour.
Only problem was that there was no dishtowels to dry the plates and cups etc.

Our holiday at Ben Alder
Ben Alder is a modern house located on the outskirts of Stromness. We had 5 adults and 1 child. There are three bedrooms,a bathroom with bath and shower, a well equipped kitchen with a dining area, a utility room with a washing machine and drying facilities and a very comfortable lounge. The views from the cottage are stunning over Stromness to Graemsey and Hoy. We had cars so we were able to get into Stromness easily. Location makes travel on the mainland easy. We had a great holiday and Kerry was very helpful before we traveled and during our stay. Would recommend for a small group or family.

A lovely cottage
A very nice place from which to explore Orkney. If the owners could persuade their neighbours to move the rusting van and car from the field opposite the house it would go from a 5/5 to a 6/5!
