Holiday Rental House
The stone cottage has a long and fascinating history, dating back to the 18th century, when it was a boat builder's house. Recently restored and modernised to a high standard, the cottage is located right in the heart of the Stromness conservation area, a short walk from shops (including bakery, delicatessen, restaurants, pubs and other amenities). Stromness is one of the main gateways into Orkney, located in the west of the islands. The first settlement here dates back to the Vikings, who identified the bay of Hamnavoe as a sheltered harbour. The town has a long and rich maritime history, and hosts several events during the year including the Orkney Folk Festival in May, the St Magnus International Festival in June and Stromness Shopping Week in July, a community gala celebrating all... About the neighbourhood
The property lies in the heart of the town, walking distance from the ferry terminal (10 minutes) and close to shops and other amenities. If you are travelling by car, there is free on-street parking. With its cobbled streets winding around the shore and up the steep hill, Stromness is a delightful place to explore on foot. The narrow closes off the main street offer glimpses of the water between buildings, and as you climb the hill a magnificent vista opens up, looking out across Scapa Flow to the dramatic hills of North Hoy. If you're looking for outdoor activities, there are plenty of options close by. Boats offer sea angling trips from the harbour, and there is excellent trout fishing nearby (the West Mainland has some of the best brown trout lochs in the country). Stromness is the...
