Lovely historic house in Stromness, perfect location and base for an Orkney trip. The house is literally round the corner from shops and cafes and the supermarket isn't far. There are some lovely walks starting from your doorstep. The house is well equipped, clean and comfortable. Hosts are helpful and friendly. The double bed is very comfortable but the bunk beds weren't as good. It would be good to have more clear instructions for the cooker and heating (although we didn't need heating much during our stay). Overall a very good place to stay and very reasonably priced.

Perfect in every way
After postponing for a year due to the pandemic, so pleased we extended our booking to a two week stay. This enabled us to explore Orkney more fully. The cottage was ideally situated in the stunning and peaceful town of Stromness, comfortable and very well equipped, with easy parking outside. A special thank you to Andy, Hilary and Rachel who made us feel so welcome, and for their generosity, local insights and extra touches that were the icing on the cake of the holiday of a lifetime. Perfect hosts. Hope to return

Delightful cottage in the heart of Stromness
We spent a week at this lovely little cottage in the heart of Stromness. Andy and Hilary were extremely helpful and welcoming. The cottage was immaculately clean and the kitchen was well-equipped with everything we needed, all of high quality. We were very impressed, and hope to return in the not too distant future.

Have just returned from a week in stromness, the cottage was lovely, spotlessly clean & perfect for 3 of us & our puppy. We all had a fabulous holiday. The cottage is perfectly situated just off the Main Street., we all enjoyed walking to the baker’s each morning for rolls & doughnuts! Andy & Hilary made us feel very welcome & we will be recommending the cottage to all our friends & we hope to return soon .

Highly recommended.
Fabulous wee place, immaculate, hidden gem.
Ideal base for exploring the Islands.
Have just spent a week here and can highly recommend it and the hosts.
Andy and his sister Hilary cannot do enough for you and what they don't know about Orkney and the surrounding Islands you don't need to know.
This was my first trip to Orkney and it did not disappoint. My husband usually comes here to dive but this time he became a tourist and visited places he hasn't seen before.
We were extremely lucky with the weather and have some amazing photographs and memories.

A great wee cottage
Since we can't drive this cottage was very well placed, Easy reach of all facilities but still a nice quiet place. Andy was very helpful, when we required help just had to call and he delivered what was needed. Would definitely go again

The property lies in the heart of the town, walking distance from the ferry terminal (10 minutes) and close to shops and other amenities. If you are travelling by car, there is free on-street parking.
With its cobbled streets winding around the shore and up the steep hill, Stromness is a delightful place to explore on foot. The narrow closes off the main street offer glimpses of the water between buildings, and as you climb the hill a magnificent vista opens up, looking out across Scapa Flow to the dramatic hills of North Hoy.
If you're looking for outdoor activities, there are plenty of options close by. Boats offer sea angling trips from the harbour, and there is excellent trout fishing nearby (the West Mainland has some of the best brown trout lochs in the country). Stromness is the main centre for scuba diving in Orkney, with a number of boats offering diving off the military wrecks in Scapa Flow. The Stromness Golf Course welcomes visitors and organises a midnight tournament at the height of summer. There is also excellent walking, birdwatching and sailing - boats can be hired from the marina.
There are plenty of indoor attractions too, including the Stromness Museum, with local history and natural heritage displays, Pool & Leisure Centre, the Pier Arts Centre, and lots of small galleries and craft shops to browse.
