We recently registered as a smallholding and now have 7 Soay ewes and 2 Soay tups grazing the pasture at the rear of the properties. They are a rare Hebredian breed, small and goatish in appearance who shed their fleeces and give birth naturally. They love to be fed treats - swedes, carrots and cabbage are favourites. Interaction with guests: We live in The Steading next door so we are on hand to provide assistance when requested (eg help with the woodburner for the unitiated!) , but we tend to leave guests to themselves unless they approach us. We interact as much or as little as you want. The keys are available from a key safe so that arrival can be flexible any time after the booking in time and likewise keys can be returned to the safe on the morning of departure.

Comfy and clean
Clean, comfy cottage - the weather had turned when we arrived so a little cold but soon warmed up and wood burning stove was brilliant. Spacious, comfy and clean and looked well equipped - we were only there for a couple of days so didn’t actually cook! Owner was lovely. Car essential but only a few minutes from Highland Safari who do an excellent breakfast! Maybe a little dated but fairly priced. Handy to have garden area for dogs to run in though there are free range chickens about so we kept ours on a lead.

Genuine Scotland - Centrally located - Excellent hosts
We chose the Burnside Cottage because it was a good central location for quick day trips to many places we wanted to see in Scotland. We were not disappointed. Within a day we were able to drive to several places of significance to our families' ancestral heritage. The four of us stayed here for two weeks in May, 2019. Janette and Keith were wonderful hosts and the Cottage amenities were excellent. The nearby charming village of Aberfeldy had anything you could want including a grocery, a bookstore, restaurants, apothecary, distillery, golf course, hiking trails, and many quaint small shops. Janette and Keith suggested several short trips to nearby sights which we enjoyed immensely. If you are looking for genuine Scottish Highland accommodation with gracious hosts, this is the place for you !

Google translates this as: Hello Jeanette, we have felt very comfortable with you and would always book again with you. The environment is perfect for hiking and excursions. We are really pleased the Schuh family enjoyed their stay with us and took full advantage of all the lovely walks and places to visit. We would certainly welcome them back - our best wishes Keith and Janette

Great dog friendly retreat, very accommodating owners
We had a great long weekend in this cottage recently at very short notice after receiving a phone call on route to our originally booked holiday cottage that they were double booked. After frantic google searches and phone calls from Sterling services we found Burnside cottage and within an hour Janette cleaned the cottage and stocked it with a welcome pack of bread, chocolates and more for our arrival. The cottage is located within several acres of privately owned ground shared by the owners house and another cottage. A lovely burn runs through the enclosed grounds and it looks and feels like a perfect country getaway. There are some nice walks right from the front door and there are lots of lovely little villages and towns (and pubs!) within a short drive including Aberfeldy, Killin, Kenmore and Fortingall (the yew tree there is the oldest living thing in Europe). This Loch Tay area of Scotland is a lovely little corner of Scotland. Thanks for a lovely long weekend.

We were happy to help with the dilemma, remembering a similar issue when we arrived at our pre-booked accommodation for our honeymoon (many years ago!)– only to be turned away! We are really glad Nikki and Andy enjoyed their stay and hope they will be able to get away again for a well deserved break – short notice bookings our speciality!

Absolutely Wonderful
The hosts, Keith and Janette were fantastic. They were more then happy to give us advice, on places to visit and the best place to eat. The cottage was big, welcoming and filled with everything you could possibly need. We spent the day exploring the area and all it had to offer. We saw golf courses, breathtaking scenic views of the countryside, woodlands, mountains, lochs, castles, distilleries, and blue skies. My son even got some fishing in, thanks to the help of Keith and Janette. After a long day of walking, we went back to the cottage and relaxed on the comfy couch. We would make a cup of tea and open the patio door ; to hear the brook making a soft soothing sound, of flowing water. Well loved it and plan on returning .

We enjoyed having Trevor,Michelle and family to stay. I was so grateful to their son who helped me find my wayward Labrador who had wandered off. We hope they can revisit soon and enjoy some of the sights they missed on their first visit.

Relaxing, comfortable retreat
We stayed here for a week in October and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The house was comfortable (great wood burning stove) and in a beautiful location. We went walking and cycling in the lovely countryside surrounding the house. A really restful retreat to unwind.

Lovely stay at Burnside Cottage
We very much enjoyed our stay at Burnside. The cottage was very clean and comfortable, the kitchen well equipped and the owners friendly and helpful. It is in a beautiful location and easy to take a dog. It was our second visit and we would certainly consider rebooking.

Avoid
Nice location and spacious property. However kitchen very poorly equipped, not a single sharp knife, shower not functioning, not enough hot water for baths, property freezing on arrival taking two days to warm up and £5 deducted from our security deposit for the supply of a bag logs (which the owner's husband offered us gratis). Owners petty and discourteous. This is a lovely part of the country and the cottage could be lovely, but, having stayed in numerous cottages I can honestly say this is one of the worst examples. My advice is to avoid

The Kemsley family stayed at Burnside Cottage in 2017 and returned in 2018. This review has come about because I notified them that I was unhappy about the condition in which they left the property, in particular one of the toilets and the contents of the bathroom bin- an unwrapped, soiled sanitary towel. They did not raise any issues with me last year nor this.....until now. Mr Kemsley is clearly in denial and hitting back in a most public way. I too would have been mortified to learn that the toilet had been left in such a disgusting state (I asked whether one of their children had been unwell) and to find a soiled sanitary towel in the bathroom bin – I certainly would not have wanted this to be aired publicly, but he has left me no choice but to defend the good name of my holiday cottage. Our own comments book and reviews on other sites supports the quality of our holiday cottage offer. The kitchen is very well equipped and anything our guests have suggested as additions we have provided – egg cups, kitchen scissors, more saucepans, new frying pan etc. They apparently needed a larger casserole dish for their family of four and did not feel the knives provided were sharp enough. The electric shower works perfectly – I tested it after this recent comment – just need to follow the instructions given and it provides instant constant hot water to the temperature you select. The hot water is heated over night and then there is a boost facility – all explained in the Welcome Pack, but if they had an issue they had only to ask at the time. There is background electrical heating and a wood burning stove – they had an issue with buying wood after the starter supply ran out. I had explained that they could buy from us or go to the nearby town. When my husband delivered a bag to their door, Mr Kemsley seemed a little flustered and said he would have to find the cash, so my husband said to leave it for now (so as not to put him under pressure). The Welcome Pack clearly states the cost for additional supplies of logs. As for the cottage being cold on arrival and taking two days to warm up – I asked them for an ETA so that I could light the wood burner for them prior to their arrival – not using the logs from the starter basket I might add. Hi Janette We think it will be about 4pm hopefully. Thanks for thinking of us. Sue Sent from my iPhone On 31 Mar 2018, at 12:06, "jegwrote: Hi, If you could give me an idea of an ETA we can light the wood burner and warm the cottage for your arrival. Thanks Janette The heat in the property hit me when I went to inspect the property after their departure, without the wood burner being lit. I did suggest that they find somewhere else for future visits. They do not meet the code of conduct expected by holiday home hosts and hence I would not recommend them nor welcome them back. They are to be avoided.
