Cottage
Sitting close to the heart of Dolgellau, with its pretty stone cottages and surrounded by mountains and rivers, this characterful cottage has all you need for a great holiday or short break whatever the time of year. Step in through the lounge door and you know that this cottage with its impressive inglenook fireplace has been a pace to stay and relax for many hundreds of years. The massive wooden beam t was once part of a sailing ship and later saw people meet under it as a 'Friends meeting house'. Meyrick Street is an old residential street leading from the centre of this quaint and attractive market town, out past a winding river to the foothills of Cader Idris, South Snowdonia's most impressive mountain. In and around Dolgellau there is no shortage of things to do and places to go as well as a great choice of venue's to eat and drink only 2 or 3 minutes walk away. Our cottage Y Gelli (the grove) makes a great base for exploring Snowdonia. The town itself is the point at which several mountain rivers join together on their rocky route to the sea, only 10 miles away at the seaside town of Barmouth. Within a few minutes drive you will find beautiful mountain lakes that are great for fishing, walking and swimming in as well as messing about on in a canoe. For walkers there is some of the most impressive walking country in Wales incl using Cader Idris, the Rhinog mountains, and the famous Precipice and Torrent walks. Stunning views are everywhere from the tops of mountains out to sea or along the beautiful Dovey and Mawddach estuaries and plenty of impressive waterfalls too. You can bring your bikes to the cottage and store them in our garage or hire them locally then go out and explore the traffic free routes such as the Mawddach Trail as it winds to the sea alongside the Mawddach River or take your mountain bike to Coed y Brenin the National Mountain Biking centre with routes to suit all abilities. If you want to relax by the sea or just paddle in the waves there are great beaches on the coast from Barmouth up to Harlech and its historic castle. Or you can visit the pretty welsh harbour town of Aberdovey. It is all within half an hours drive and waiting here for you to come and discover it. Best of all you can do plenty from the cottage without the need for a car. Dolgellau has great transport links across North and mid Wales via the Traws Cymru (Cross Wales) network and on Saturday and Sunday these buses connecting you to Barmouth, Caernarfon, Aberystwyth, Bala and Llangollen are totally free for you and the whole family. They all give good connections to the national rail newtork at Barmouth and Machynlleth More

The owners of this cottage have done very well in providing all modern amenities without losing the character of the place. We loved the large fireplace and there was plenty of room for the 3 of us to spread out on the sofas. The kitchen was very well equipped and we combined some home cooking a couple of evenings with eating out the rest of the week. The cottage is so ideally situated that we only used the car once for a day trip. The rest of the time we were able to walk or indeed cycle from the cottage for all of our trips. The milk in the fridge on arrival was a nice touch as was the vase of fresh flowers. We hope to visit again.

Whilst the cottage is old, it is also warm and cosy. It has been tastefully adapted into a spacious living space for couples. The bathroom is beautiful, with a claw footed bath and a powerful shower. The living room has an impressive chimney breast and plenty of space for lounging around. The kitchen is very well equipped, and there is a garden area at the front and the back if you go in warmer weather (we went in February.) Dolgellau has loads of pubs all within 5 minutes walk of the cottage, all of which we managed to visit in our week there, and all of which were welcoming and friendly. There are also 3 or 4 restaurants in the village. Walks abound, and maps and suggestions were helpfully provided in the cottage. There is also a beautiful cycle path to Barmouth, which is far from roads and is quiet and peaceful, and great for bird-watching. There is also a pub half way along the path, so you can have a well-earned break. There are plenty more restaurants and amenities in Barmouth, and if you need a taxi back the prices are very reasonable.

Grahams cottage is very well presented and equipped, we especially liked the bedrooms and the luxurious bathroom with slipper bath and walk-in shower. The cottage is very well located just of the main market square, but is surprisingly quiet.

This cottage has real character and is deceptively spacious. It has everything you need : well equipped kitchen, fabulous bathroom and comfortable lounge/dining area. It is well located in the centre of Dolgellau and a short stroll to a range of restaurants, wine bars, and cafes. Being in Dolgellau it is ideal for exploring the wider Snowdonia National Park area.

What a revelation this cottage is. All mod cons, comfortable, relaxing quirky and quaint all at the same time. Wonderful hosts too, nothing is to much trouble for Graham and Ann. Only 1 minute from the heart of a thriving Welsh town, with a great selection of cafes, restaurants and bars, something for everyone, all very welcoming. Only a short drive, and you are immersed in Snowdonia. Highly recommended... oh and there is a little cricket club with the most beautiful outlook imaginable in the town too.
