'Frondeg' (Pretty Hill) is a delightful 17th century, traditional stone, former blacksmith's cottage in the centre of the tiny hamlet of Mallwyd famous for it's 14th century church and the home of the 'Gwylliad Cochion Mawddwy' (the Red Bandits of Mawddwy), a bunch of red haired Highwaymen from the 16th century. NOW WITH WI-FI

Mallwyd is situated in the famous Snowdonia National Park and lies half way between the market towns of Dolgellau (9 miles) and Machynleth (10 miles). The cottage has recently been re-furbished but has kept it's original features such as it's oak beams and stone fireplace with a wood burning stove.

Frondeg is a cosy, warm and welcoming cottage. It’s old, quirky and feels very safe from the world outside. We hunkered down in the evenings on very comfy beds and explored in the day the wide variety of activities around. Greenwood activity park is good...More

The cottage was easy to find, just along from the Brigands Inn (great for a drink or bite to eat). Please note that the layby parking is next to the main road, so you can't miss it! There were several other cars parked but no...More

About the neighbourhood
Machynlleth also boasts a fully equipped leisure centre the “Bro Dyfi” with a swimming pool and cafe. Good shopping and a market on Wednesday are also found in “Mac”.

The tranquil coastal town of Aberdovey is 9 miles west of Machynlleth whilst farther south the seaside towns of Aberystwyth, Aberaeron and New Quay are but a short drive away.

There are many nature reserves in this part of the Cardigeon area.

The Cambrian coastal road from Aberdovey, through Tywyn and up to Dolgellau should not be missed as is the Tal-y-Llin road from Tywyn. Don't forget your camera.

In Dolgellau you will find shops and pubs, cafes and restaurants,, try the coffee and cakes at the internet cafe in Parliament House found in a former hardware store.

How to get there
Railway: Machynlleth: 16.0 km
The village of Mallwyd is situated at the point where the A458 from Welshpool meets the A470 from Dolgellau and Machynlleth. Frondeg is found on the A470 on the road to Machynlleth. Park in the lay-by by the Brigands Inn and walk up the path adjacent to the telephone box. At the end of the short path you will find Frondeg directly facing you. There is a sign by the door.
