About the neighbourhood
You will be spoilt for choice for things to do based here at Y Bwthyn Bach.
Hop on a cycle (or walk) across the road from the cottage to the Mawddach Estuary path (9 miles of walking) – enter a wonderful world which changes everyday – wildlife, mountain views; local bees collecting pollen and sometimes the odd RAF jet whizzing through the sky above - all of this whilst meandering along an historic old railway line.
Of course we also have Cader Idris – our local mountain to climb for those who are adventurous ! Coed Y Brenin Forest - the mountain biking mecca with its thrilling trails is within 15 mins drive - the forest also has a host of walks the family and dog will love.Plenty of beaches 2 within walking distance and steam trains galore
Getting around
Park here at Y Bwthyn Bach and walk to Barmouth approx 2 miles or walk the hills up behind the cottage. The cottage is perfectly based to explore more of Snowdonia and it's delights - a car is recommended to travel further afield- there are mountains/forests/waterfalls/caverns/beaches and steam trains. Dolgellau is a short drive with its weekly market for local produce and cafes. Beaches are within easy walking distance (2 miles)- a choice of 2 - Fairbourne or over the historic railway viaduct to Barmouth - both are dog friendly.Hop on the mainline train at the little station a mile along the estuary path and take a spectacular coast hugging ride - north to Harlech Castle or the famous Italianette village of Portmeirion or south to Aberdyfi
