Good location for walks around Snowdonia. Lots of other things to do in the area. Two weeks wouldn't have covered it all. No phone signal but a landline is available for emergencies so a break from being contacted was good. Amazing family size kitchen complete...More

About the neighbourhood
Beddgelert is a charming conservation village in the heart of the National Park. Frequently commended in Britain in Bloom and even Europe in Bloom competitions, the delightful village centre retains its traditional feel. Although deservedly popular with tourists visiting the bogus dog's grave, Beddgelert has not been spoiled by tourism the way some other villages have.

There's not that much to do here - visit a copper mine, walk the wild Fisherman's path down the Aberglasyn Gorge, admire the character cottages - but it's a great place to be. It nestles spectacularly in a small plain dominated by it's own mountain, Moel Hebog, and there are mountain and valley views in every direction. There's a good choice of pubs and restaurants, and just enough local faciliti...

How to get there
Driving to Nant Gwynant is certain to get you into the holiday mood, as from every direction the scenery is fabulous. If coming from the North, leave the A55 coastal trunk road near Bangor, then follow signs to Llanberis. Keep going straight through the village, then the road starts to climb eventually reaching Pen y Pass, a starting point for Snowdon hikes. The views over Llyn Gwynant and the Nant Gwynant valley as you descend the other side are splendid indeed. Turn right at the Pen Y Gwryd Hotel, and follow the road down the valley passing Llyn Gwynant. The property is on the left in the middle of Nant Gwynant hamlet. Coming from the South of England, take the M54 past Telford and then the A5 through Llangollen. The scenery starts to unfold as you head further into Wales, eventually re... more
