The Ledgelets Cottage Colony is located just past the worlds smallest drawbridge, Somerset Bridge. No longer a working drawbridge today, it does connect you to our little piece of 'The Rock'. The property is situated in just below Fort Scaur on 4.5 acres, featuring lovely gardens and lawns, with hosts of Bermuda and American Roses scattered through out. The Ledgelets has been with the Young family since the early 1900's...part of the main house is over 350 years old and still has the original cedar beams! The Ledgelets was one of the first cottage colonies in Bermuda, opening in 1948. After 50 years as a guest house, the property was converted into residential rentals. And only until recently have we decided to bring back some of that old school Bermuda charm by turning a few of the cottages back into vacation rentals and bringing the property back to its former glory. Somerset is in the western part of Bermuda, near the Royal Naval Dockyard. We are about an hour from St. Georges and 30 minutes from our capital, Hamilton. Our little town of Somerset is just a few minutes away and can be walked to along the Railway Trail and further west is Dockyard which is approximately 15 minutes away. We are five minutes from the Port Royal Golf Course, home of the PGA Grand Slam. And of course don't forget our beaches! Most of Bermuda's beautiful beaches are located on the South Shore, which are about 10-15 minutes away. The best way to really see the island is from the water. Anywhere near it and in it. Somerset Bridge ('our hood') is the best place on the island for water sports. We are a 10 minute walk to a PADI dive shop, which includes kayak, boat and jet ski rentals. Stand up paddle boarding with amazing views is also nearby - go in the early evening to catch a glimpse of a sea turtle or two! The Ledgelets is comprised of 5 residential cottages , a full maintenance facility, on site property caretaker, and the main house where we live. The Pool House is extremely private and secluded from the rest of the property and surrounded by lush subtropical gardens. Across the street from the entrance to The Ledgelets is our private dock. Our cousins use the dock with two fishing boats docked there. Captain Alan Card of the Challenger is one of Bermuda best-known captains and is available for charters. If you are into deep sea fishing, these are the guys to go with. Captain Andrew Card (Alan's brother) has been commercial fishing all of his life and can be found on the dock selling fish most afternoons. If you're in the mood for fish tales and some fresh local catch, Andrew would be happy to provide some for a small donation (the fish tales are free!). The Pool House is the ideal setting for a relaxing retreat. This private cottage has a patio that is perfect for enjoying your morning coffee, or your evening cocktails, while the lush and well-cultivated subtropical gardens surround you. We encourage you to soak in the reality that you may have just found your own personal paradise. The Pool House features a master bedroom with king bed, equipped with 600 thread count linens, a spacious master bath with double vanity sinks, tub and shower. Expect all the comforts of home to afford you the opportunity to actually unpack and unwind in a civilised manner. Your living room and dining room is combined to create one comfortable space, and also offers an inviting view to the pool and gardens. The living room also features a comfortable full size pull out sofa. From the living/dining room you move into your petite galley kitchen. New appliances have been installed. We have also tried to provide as many of the essential needs one would require in the kitchen. If you require an item that is not found in the cottage, we will be happy to get it for you! We have a provided a washer and dryer (with detergent and fabric softener) which is located just off the kitchen. You will also find a full BBQ grill available with utensils. While we expect you to explore our beautiful island, it is nice to sometimes kick back and watch a little telly, mellow out to your favorite tunes or just catch up on social media...all possible with cable TV, blue tooth speakers and wireless internet. The wireless signal will reach all areas of the cottage and around the pool. We have tried to think of all the necessary items that you will need while visiting. We have beach and pool towels available along with comfy robes and bath towels. You will also find a fresh supply of shampoo, conditioner, bath gel, soap, lotion and sun tan lotion...please use it, the strength of the sun can sneak up on you. Lastly, the pool area is shared with John and Alison and their young daughter, Hinson. We hope you love relaxing aroundMore

Our stay at the Ledgelets was the perfect staycation! Although we live here in Bermuda the charm of the Somerset bridge area and the feeling of being tucked away in beauty made this weekend getaway just what we needed! The pool house is cozy and Ali and John are so warm and welcoming. All the amenities you need to just relax. A perfectly supplied kitchen means once you grab some groceries there’s no reason to leave the property. Thank you for a lovely weekend.

Complete and utter privacy, beautiful lush grounds, living floral aromas, expertly curated furnishings, with meditation sounds and singing birds as the soundtrack in the morning followed by quintessential jazz and tree frogs in the evenings. A short ride with resident driver, Uncle Kevin, to some of the best beaches in the western hemisphere. John, Alie and Hinson have mastered the art of giving their guests the privacy we seek on vacation while being accessible within minutes for any questions/advice. I could go on and on, but put simply - this special place is a must visit!

John Young donates 3 and 2 day stays at the Pool house in a charity auction for the Croquet Federation of American (CFA) and two days to the United States Croquet Association (USCA). We won the auction for both. The five days were fantastic. The pool house is decorated outstandingly. John, Alie and Hinson treat their quest as family. Nothing is spared to make the stay memorable and comfortable.

I cannot imagine wanting to stay in a downtown hotel, when this old Bermuda family estate, now owned and operated by the grandson and his young wife, is available. It is a serene, comfortable, private place with excellent service and attention to detail. The owner helped us arrange airport transportation and food shopping for our blissful, yet full, week. Our secret to having a full Bermuda experience and still enjoy this oasis, was to rent a Twizzy downtown, which we did. I am sure John can walk you through this. If he has his charging station installed now, this will help make your stay there worry free. We were able to see almost all the island's great sights by having our own eco friendly transportation. I'll save the Twizzy details for another review, but if you want private bliss, this is it, even if you decide to call cabs instead.

My wife, seven month old daughter and I stayed in the Pool House between July 5 - July 15. From the moment we arrived on the property we knew that we had chosen the right place to stay while in Bermuda. From the manicured gardens, tall swaying palm trees, beautiful interior and exterior decor, cleanliness of the Pool House and property combined with the warm welcome we received which included a large jug of Rum Swizzle (SO DELICIOUS!!!), we instantly fell in love with the Pool House and Ledgelets property. The Pool House had everything that we needed in order to make our stay comfortable. The king size bed was extremely soft and so relaxing to sleep in and the size of the entire Pool House was much larger than expected! Some of our favourite highlights of staying at this property was enjoying our morning breakfast and coffees on the covered terrace right outside our front door while listening to the birds and elegant soft music that was played from outdoor speakers by the pool, both day time and late night swims in the beautiful pool and BBQing fresh Wahoo fish which we bought from John's cousin across the street. With this being our first family trip with our baby, we couldn't have chosen a better place to stay. John and Alison were so kind by providing several different baby items such as a pack n play, baby tub for baths, toys, books and blankets which were all up to our "new parent expectations". We definitely packed more than we needed considering the number of baby friendly items that were available to us on the property. If you are traveling without kids, we highly recommend renting the compact Twizzy electric cars available to tourists only (Book well in advance!!!). Unfortunately, we were not able to rent these as they would not have worked for us based on the fact that we were traveling with a baby but other guests that we met absolutely loved them. John and Alison have a private charging station on their property which is super convenient for guests to charge overnight. If you are traveling with children or elderly people, we highly suggest making friends with one of the taxi drivers and getting their direct personal phone number. We developed a relationship with a local taxi driver who was reliable and a pleasure to speak to during our rides. We also had a great experience with another driver named Kevin who John put us in contact with and who picked us up and dropped us off at the airport. Kevin took the time to stop at the local grocery store on our way to the property so that we could pick up food for our stay which was greatly appreciated. There are a couple of other cottages on the property which John took the time to show me in person and I must say I was very impressed with the size and quality of the finishes and decor. This property is perfect for couples as well as families at different stages. My wife and I highly recommend the Pool House, you will not be disappointed! Thanks John, Alison & Hinson for allowing us to stay on your property and for such a great experience, we look forward to coming back hopefully some time soon!

After living in Bermuda for fifteen years, my family and I return every other year due to Bermuda's beauty, friendly people and charm. The Ledglet's is the the charm, tranquility, and peace everyone needs on their holiday. The grounds, pool, flowers, and sunrise welcome every morning, and the tree frogs calmly send you to your rest each evening. We rented the Pool House and Sunrise Cottage to celebrate my son's "Wedding Welcome party." It was the best decision I made. Alison and John were there for us with anything and everything we needed. if you and your family are looking for peace, tranquility and a truly Bermudian experience, you have it at the Ledglet's. An added plus are the very comfortable beds, plushy robes, beautiful furnishings and welcome Rum Swizzles! They have thought of everything! See you next year!

We had a fabulous vacation staying at the Ledgelets pool house! The newly renovated one bedroom cottage was the perfect escape from the hustle and bustle of NYC and the glistening pool was amazing on those hot Bermuda Days! The hosts, Alie & John, were great at making us feel at home and they even welcomed us with poolside cocktails after the taxi ride from the airport. The bed was super comfy and the cottage has everything you need- washer/dryer, dishwasher, AC and any kitchen supply you can imagine! We love the retro vibe and decor and learning all about the history of the property from Alie & John. The Ledgelets is really one of a kind and we are already planning our next stay at the pool house cottage!
