You'll Never Want to Leave!
We are very experienced weekend travelers, and have stayed at many places in Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Tennessee and points beyond. We are so happy to honestly report that The Cottage at Tell Story Walk is absoutely the best experience we have ever had in all our years of traveling. Mark and Mary are the penultimate hosts, not just providing an exquisite and perfect home away from home to relax and refresh, but also to offer themselves as delightul treasures that feel like family almost immediately. You will not feel like a stranger from the moment these lovely people welcome you to their home. First, you are transported to a location that feels secluded and totally private, but you are only an easy 15 minute drive to downtown Waco. Second, once you walk in, the space is immaculately clean, well appointed and beautifully decorated, so comfortable and yet high end in so many ways. The decor is New England coastal, and no detail is missed in any corner of the house. Yet you will never feel like you shouldn't touch anything. Antique photo albums, classic books, and historic items perfectly placed are wonderful touches that provide the warm and inviting place that feels like Mark and Mary live here, and they are sharing their home with you for the weekend. Third, the grounds are beautiful. You must take the time to walk around the grounds and see all the gorgeous places to sit and sip, chat and refocus on what really is important in your life and your relationships. From the rooftop deck, the gardens off the cottage and the lush fields of green and live oaks, swings and seating areas, you will quickly feel the stresses of busy, hectic city life slip away. You will be greeted by a refrigerator full of refreshing drinks, and your amazing breakfast for the morning. Plenty of water, including Perrier, a refereshing bottle of wine or beer (your choice...they ask you in advance!) juice, milk, fruit, yogurt and whipped cream. A tray of delicious scones and coffee cake, homemade granola, are awaiting you on the counter! Coffee and everything you need to make the perfect cup is already there. The cottage has two beautifully appointed bathrooms, with plush towels and everything you need in case you forgot it at home. A large walk-in 2 shower head shower is downstairs, and a classic clawfoot tub is in the upstairs bathroom for the perfect soak. There are two tv's, one in the living area, and one in the downstairs bedroom. We enjoyed the space and talking to each other so much that we didn't spend a lot of time watching tv. The upstairs loft has 3 single beds, and the downstairs bedroom has a super comfy queen bed. It's perfect for couples, a family with children, or a girls' weekend. In fact, we spent very little time in Waco, because we loved being at the Cottage so much. We have been to Waco before when it was more 'open' and we found a lot of Waco was still not yet 'open for business', so we enjoyed our time at the cottage. Mary and Mark are updating a large home on the property for future use as a bed and breaksfast, and if it is anything like the cottage, we will want to visit as soon as they finish. The Tell Story Walk property is perfect for weddings and family gatherings, and I look forward to returning as soon as we have an opportunity. Mark and Mary feel like family.

Dear Mark and Leslie, Sometimes, often in praying, the right words just won't come. That's the way both Mary and I feel about your review. After Mary's first "Oh, my GOSH," exclamation to her final "How do you respond to something like that," the beauty and heart and thankfulness of all your words are an affirmation that just keeps coming. Truth be told, there are folks out there who pay publicity agents a small fortune for sentiments like this. The thoroughness with which you describe our place reads like something out of a travel magazine. But so much more than that, it is the personal touch you give in every sentence that comes through. It feels as if you are still here, still having that morning sip of coffee, still seated in that swing. Thank you. Thank you beyond words. It is our highest hope that people will come here and find the peace and togetherness that so easily escapes them in the common world. Your review is a heartfelt reminder: Some hopes are worth everything. May God be with you always. Mark and Mary

Wonderful Experience
Our overall experience here with Mark and Mary was fantastic. Wonderful people who really know how to host is an understatement. Mary may be one of the best cooks on the planet. One of the people in our group was lactose intolerant, and Mary prepared meals specifically for him that were fantastic. I don’t know what their secret is, but this place is borderline magical. We all came home refreshed and recharged. The property is so beautiful, and loaded with a bunch of spots to take great pictures. We will stay here every time we come to Waco if they’ll have us. Thanks again Mark and Mary, and God Bless!

Matt and Tandi, Thank you for your wonderful, wonderful review. And your style of expression is captivating. You could write for a travel mag. Needless to say, your accolades not only warm, but encourage us. I particularly appreciate your words for Mary. She puts her heart into taking care of the dietary needs of our guests. Your praise for her skills and attention does me proud. One of the nicer surprises of your stay here are your remarks about our property. Not a day goes by that I'm not amazed that God entrusted to us such a beautiful place. I'm glad you took the opportunity to stroll around enough to take it in. I wish more people had the time and inclination for that. I never see the trees and ground and evening light without finding God. We do hope to see you and your young friends again one day. In all sincerity, our guests make it all worthwhile. Our best, Mark and Mary

The best part of Waco
If you ever visit Texas you should absolutely stay at this cottage. Mark and Mary, the owners, are 2 of the loveliest people we have ever met. They pour their hearts and souls in to this cottage and you can see it through every piece of decor they have throughout the cottage. We were only fortunate enough to stay for 2 nights but it was absolutely long enough to fall in love with the cottage and the owners. The welcome was amazing, the food was amazing, the conversations were amazing, the setting is amazing! We can’t wait to take our family back! Our only regret is not spending more time with Mark and Mary. Book today you won’t regret it!!

Lee and Wendy, Every couple of weeks I'm asked by a family member, "What's new?" For years, my answer was the same: "Nothing ever changes in the hospitality business. You're always either taking care of one guest, or preparing for the next." About a year ago I realized those words to be the most untrue of all answers. The fact is, our guest are new. Week in and week out we get to meet (and if we're lucky, know) people like you. And in all honesty, you make every day of what we do here worthwhile. Mary and I deeply appreciated the things you each shared with us during your time here. We we're particularly touched by some of the hard, yet inspiring, choices you've made in your life together. In both professional and personal areas, you are willing to pay the high price of sacrifice. As was said, we wish you were our neighbors. Thank you for taking the time to write such this clearly heartfelt review. It means more to us than you can know. Please keep us posted on matters to come. You remain in our prayers, as do your daughters and son. All our best, Mark and Mary

We Give It A Ten Plus Plus
My two best friends and I spent the most wonderful couple of days at The Cottage. We were in Waco to see the Magnolia sites, shop, and just relax and catch up with one another. We had expected most of our attention would be on the shopping, but it turned out the Cottage and its stunningly beautiful grounds were our main focus. Mark and Mary are gracious and charming hosts who clearly love what they're doing. They are attentive, without being overwhelmingly so. Mary's breakfast creations - waffles, home-made quiches, yogurt parfaits with home-made granola, and the most beautiful fruit - were mouth-watering. I'm hoping she will share her scone recipe with me. The property is spotlessly clean and comfortable, well-stocked with cooking and bathroom supply needs, books, DVDs and games. Mark and Mary have clearly put a great deal of thought into anticipating what their guests might want or need during their stay. (Example: they're mounted small flashlights on the side of the bed frames so midnight trips to the bathroom won't end in a stubbed toe. Who thinks of something like that?????) Last, but certainly not least, is the beauty and tranquility of the surroundings. It's the perfect place to just sit, relax and be at peace. p.s. I've already booked this property again.

Bobbi, What a refreshing review! And so personal, so filled with all the little things others might see but never think to mention. Like the flashlights. You really covered the gamut. Thank you. As to Mary and I, you're right; we do love what we do. It's honest, purposeful work, and it's so deeply rewarding when we get to engage with our guests. Speaking of which, when you and Mimi and Maria greeted us, you're the ones who made us feel comfortable. I was intrigued by how well the three of you relate to each other. Your shared backgrounds, coupled with you mutual care for each other, explain a lot. But your commitment to getting together several times a year is the real testament. The three of you are doing it right. Thank you, for the brief but honest window into your togetherness. When it comes to preserving friendship, you're an inspiration. My best, Mark (and Mary)

All the Charm and Amenities of a B&B in a Beautiful Stand Alone Cottage
This well stocked and beautifully appointed cottage nestled under live oaks outside Waco was one of the most amazing vacation rentals in which we have had the pleasure of staying. Mark and Mary are the most gracious hosts. Communication during the booking process was excellent and they stopped by and welcomed us personally upon our arrival. Scrumptious breakfasts along with other treats and a welcome bottle of wine are provided in the cottage. Much of the charm of the cottage comes from its inviting design and antique furnishings and its compelling setting. Although we came to Waco to explore the area, the bonus was simply relaxing and enjoying inhabiting this beautiful place. We were sorry we had only two days to spend there. We are eager to return and highly recommend the Cottage at Tell Story Walk.

Kelly, Thank you for a review worthy of a travel magazine. Kelly, your professional background shines through your descriptions. We're blessed to be on the receiving end of such eloquence. These are the only opportunities we get to publicly post reflections about our wonderful guests. In the case of you and Ken, we enjoyed learning about your travels together, coupled with your mutual appreciation for your "town/country" homeland. Of course, we particularly value your glowing praise for our cottage and grounds. The fact that you are each experienced in a wide range of hospitality settings makes your praise all the more special. Naturally, we hope to host you again one day. My best, Mark (and Mary)

Peacefulness is Addictive!
Our second year to make time for a Waco getaway to The Cottage. Warning...the warm reception from Mark & Mary & the beauty of the land & the amazing breakfasts from “Mary’s Kitchen” and the peacefulness there - all is addictive! We will return next year! Always fun things to do in Waco thanks to Chip & JOANNA, but the antiquing, food & Homestead stores are wonderful!

Cindi, Another year passes, and another gracious review from you. Thank you. It's been said before, but it remains true: you and Paula are two of a kind. You bring a presence to Tell Story Walk with style and grace. Mary and I enjoy your colorful commentaries; they range from fashion to design, from historic homes to historic hurricanes. And it is all so personal. You're a treat to host. All of which is to say that we deeply appreciate your thoughtful review. You always find a way of complimenting us in the most poignant of ways. Again, thank you. My best, Mark (and Mary)

John and Bobbi, Thank you for the praise. As said before, Mary and I enjoyed the time you so graciously spent with us. And, of course, we deeply appreciated your interest in the "big house." Yours is a rare story of success guided by priorities. Your devotion to each other and your children are a benchmark in what it means to be a family. Thank you for making us a part of your Texas getaway. May you always treasure those starry nights of Arkansas. Our best, Mark and Mary

Quaint perfection...made our trip!
My husband and I booked this cottage for our 10 year anniversary trip to Texas. We were warmly welcomed by the owners, Mark and Mary. The cottage was absolute perfection. Clean, welcoming, and felt like home. Breakfast each morning was balanced, fresh, and delicious. There was a wonderful variety and all so good. We truly felt at home here and loved it so much. It was the best choice and part of our trip. I would stay again and highly recommend it to anyone looking for a place to stay. ❤️

Josh and Chesley, I love to quote Mary's first reaction upon reading a review. She always nails it. This time it was, "They were such a delight." That pretty much sums up our experience in hosting you. The things you shared, so deeply personal and worthy of prayer, linger long after you've gone. Thank you for taking the time to write about your days here. It's a lasting reminder that what we both strive and love to do for others counts, sometimes even unto eternity.

Lana, How nice to hear from you. It's rewarding (more than you know) to read how your time here made for such a lasting memory. Your birthday, was it not? And your interest in the "Big House!" Thanks for asking. Your inquiry inspires the following (written just for you): Set out to build a B & B. Remodel this Old Place. Bring back the grandeur of her time. Restore her style and grace. Alas, the years have come and gone. I am 'a workin' still. But I'm pressing on, and 'fore too long, I'll get her done, God's will. All my best, Mark

Can’t wait to visit again
Mark and Mary were absolutely the best host. They were extremely flexible and accommodating to our last minute change of plans. My wife fell in love with the well maintained grounds and I for the charm of the cabin. The food was incredible, and my daughter devoured Mary’s plate of scones. We are trying to find an excuse to come again soon. Perfect stay!

Aaron, Thank you so much for your kind words. I can assure you, accommodating you with your last minute change of plans turned to out to be our blessing as much as yours. I never fail to see God's hand on such occasions. We always feel honored when someone chooses our place to celebrate their anniversary. In your case, it was all the more so. We look forward to your finding that "excuse to come again soon." Until then, may your sixth year of marriage grow you ever closer together. All my best, Mark (and Mary)
