The area was beautiful. It was quiet, saw deer. The place was not very clean. There were crumbs behind the coffee maker. The bathroom was in need of improvement. The bath tub caulk was either missing or dirty. The caulk at the sink needed replaced. There was soap residue in the soap holders in the shower. The bottom towel rack fell several times. The shower curtain rod and rack in the bathroom were rusty. The room needs painted. Looked like there was mold on the ceiling in the shower. Two light bulbs were missing, one in the bathroom and one in the bunk bed room. I had to clean the phone which was dirty before use. Some of the blinds, I did not look at all of them, had dust which was not new. We were charged too much in the daily rate. If the improvements are made the place would be very nice. are improvements the place would be very nice.

Not very clean.. fridge, bathroom, and coffee maker were noticeably dirty. We were not informed there was people parking on the lawn nearby for the trail before we stayed. Very convenient for hiking as a heavily trafficked trail was nearby. No service for miles where we were at.. and not the best WiFi either. Closest grocery store is an hour away so stock up before getting there. Recommend the Blue Quartz winery about 20-25 minutes away

This was our 2nd visit to the property and we LOVE it!. It is beautiful there in the foothills of the mountains. We enjoyed a simple lunch at the Syria General Store and drove around taking in all the scenery for hours. It is one of our most favorite places to visit. There are ample things to do in addition to hiking White Oak Canyon to the upper and lower water falls. You can not beat the peace, quiet and tranquility here. The cottage is perfect for our needs and we look forward to our next visit!

We stayed here with our 3 and 5 year old sons. The big yard was nice for them. We were here in August, the one window unit was not enough to keep the temperature comfortable. The owners are I guess slowly renovating this cabin and don't want to do work on things they will replace in the future, but a little would make a difference. For example the windows and screens needed cleaning and the bathroom new caulk. If you are just here for hiking from the park entrance nearby it would be good, otherwise it is a lot of driving on small country roads before you're anywhere and the place itself is not a great place to hang out.

The trailer had the basic amenities and you couldn't beat the location. It was just a few hundred yards from the White Oak trailhead which had a beautiful hike along a river with waterfalls.

The location is perfect- steps to the best hike in Shenandoah National Park. Beautiful setting. But you can drive to the location. The trailer is very dated and no money has been spent in making the trailer more enjoyable. For example, the twin bunk-beds each have one sheet. One has the fitted sheet on the mattress, the other has the top sheet on it's mattress. One cheap, harsh quilt on each bed and an old blanket placed at the foot of each bed. The toilet sounds like it is going to crack off each time you sit on it. When the furnace comes on, you are not going to sleep through it. Minimal Wi-Fi or cellular connection and then there were not any batteries in the remote control to watch movies. Luckily I had some in my flashlight. The coffee maker had to be cleaned in order to make coffee. Personal K-Y package left in bedroom. Only bad VRBO that I have stayed in over the years. Sorry to have to write this review, but I wish I had read a review like this before I signed up to stay here,

If you're just looking for a place to sleep and keep your things while you enjoy the park or sit outside (nice picnic table and campfire), this is great. The kitchen is good too and there's a big couch, but I wouldn't rent this property if I was planning on spending significant time relaxing indoors. Within walking distance of a couple trails (waterfalls!) and less than a mile from Berry Hollow which you can use to get on the Old Rag loop. Just be aware that it's in a somewhat remote location. We were tempted to reward ourselves with a dinner out after a tough hike, but nothing was open late enough within a reasonable distance (with the caveat that this is still during Covid times and early in the season). Wish we had some aluminum foil so we could have actually used the oven though :)

The accommodation is a trailer, not a cabin. It has electricity, kitchen facilities and a bathroom. It also has a screened-in porch, which is nice for sitting outside. But linen and towels were woefully inadequate - thin, torn blankets; no top sheets; one hand towel for two people. And the beds are uncomfortable. Lastly, it's situated on a property that has not been mowed and with a overflowing garbage container in the back. The location is excellent - near a lovely hike - but far from the rest of Shenandoah. Because of its condition, I would not recommend this property.

Wow, the cottage was perfect, cozy and comfortable. It had everything we needed plus some great bonuses. The kitchen was large enough with seating to accommodate us and 3 friends for a big "country" breakfast. Additionaly, we had family and friends join us one day.... we played corn hole with the boards we noticed upon arrival, cooked out on the grill provided, lit a fire in the fire pit and made s'mores. We even had a movie night and binged watch some of our favorite shows on Netflix. It was fabulous. The scenery is breathtaking. You can hear the water from the waterfalls running constantly. There is a great country store just minutes away for anything you might forget. The owner was kind and quick to respond to any correspondence. The young lady, Madie who lives nearby was able to answer any questions, provide anything we needed and was happy to give us ideas and things to do. We have already booked our return trip!!! It was so nice to be away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. We had never stayed in the "holla" but are so glad we chose White Oak Cottage for our first experience!

Great location near the entrance to Shenandoah National Park. Excellent hiking and fishing nearby make this an ideal location for a vacation. Cabin is small but well kept. the front porch smells of mildew but the interior was clean and comfortable. Don't plan on staying inside long there are just too many natural wonders to explore nearby. If you can't find enough to do, Graves mountain is at the end of the road where you can go horseback riding, get supplies, fish for trout, or eat dinner. Will keep this place on my short list for another vacation.
