Interaction with guests
We do not live on the property. You do have your privacy once settled in. Greeting in person is necessary to give a brief tour and opportunity to answer questions pertaining to enjoyment of the cottage or attractions of our area. I am available if you need help, however our attentions are not room service, such as ice. It is YOUR vacation, not ours so after this short introduction, you may not see us except in passing. We absolutely must water or tend to yard in Summer but it is pretty close to your summer place if you wish to invite friends for short term entertainment.

About the neighbourhood
in a timeless postcard setting facing a jaunty fleet of wooden small craft and yachts. A private hideaway just 25' from the waters edge on a sundrenched, corner. Downtown ammenities begin just a block close. The neighborhood is a working seaport of boatbuilders, sailmakers, ailing classes for all ages can be arranged by the week or a one time session Kayak rentals or guided tours are a summer treat in the shallows of local waters. There's something to do here every day, all year round. Hope you find more to add to the list of charms. The absolute saltyest activity someone who has not often been around the ocean can do, is visit the Port Townsend Marine Science Center along the beach at Fort Worden. You can dip your hands into petting tanks, see native swimmers close up or delight in a guided beach tour. In the summer, Centrum, rocks with music lovers, arts and writers seminars non stop. You can tour Point Wilson lighthouse on summer Saturdays, 100 + years old and marks the entrance to The Strait of Juan de Fuca on the way to the San Juan Islands and Pacific Ocean. Fort Wardon and Fort Casey are former U.S. Army Artillery emplacements and are the best outdoor activity you can do with your kids Tidepools are the sirens of our shallow waters to explore by kayak, scenic drives in town or to Saltwater State Park and Crescent Beach. Pilots Cottage is blocks from the 1910 circa, Rose theater, varied fine cafes and dining, antique and boutique shops, galleries galore, even a few Victorian mansions to tour. The Port Townsend Farmers Market, just up the hill from the cottage, has the distinction of being 'one of the the top 10 culinary destinations on the Olympic Peninsula.' Nearby, lower Port Hadlock is the waterfront site of the Northwest School of Wooden Boatbuilding campus. Guided tours to see an active boat project are offered weekdays. We have ferry service daily to Whidbey Island, walk on summer charter boat to San Juan Island Private Parking for guests only is directly in front of the cottage, one space for each 2 registered guests. The spacious yard is a breeze for entertaining during your stay as there is a full length covered porch and 110' lot and garden. We have given our community drive by access so there is local traffic in front of the cottage. It can be buzzing during the day with boating and camping season here but it is so peaceful at night you can clearly hear the bell buoy ringing in each new tide. Sea lions like to ride on it and their barking may wake you up early. Deer have the right of way here, so especially in fawn season, May on, SLOW down, freeway speeds don't fly on the peninsula, Bambi's are more nativeThey are free run in town. It's quite relaxing to just stay home in the cottage wearing your barefeet or slippers, as it is a shoeless interior, and just soak in it's spirit.
Getting around
We have two State Parks nearby and a third across the inlet to Whidbey Island, Fort Warden, a quick drive or beach hike away. Fort Townsend, just outside the city limits is Port Townsends' own 200 year old growth forest. Visit Fort Casey on Whidbey Island via ferryboat and find the flatest, most scenic bike riding in Washington, famlands, wineries, shorelines, lighthouse.
