We’ve just had a great few nights staying here! Great, homely place and very comfortable (you get everything you see in these pics to yourself!). The owner is attached to the back but is very private, we never saw them coming and going. Kawehi is very lovely and genuinely wants you to enjoy your stay, she leaves out lovely treats and food (we had amazing crossiants, cake, soft drinks, eggs, chips). The coquis are loud at night, but there are earplugs there, we thought it was really cute!! You have your own car park right out front too in the covered driveway. House is close to shops, restaurants (3 min drive, 20-30 minute walk). Thanks so much for having us Kawehi!

We stayed there for 3 nights. The house is very spacious and airy. Lots of knickknacks decorating the place. Owner has provided nearly everything you need in paradise. We would definitely return to this place.

This is our 3rd visit to Hale Kawehi, and we still love it. Classic Hawaii, with many collectibles and artifacts on display. It is relaxing and comfortable, especially the covered deck and tropical garden. Kawehi is a friendly and thoughtful hostess, and keeps the Hale well stocked with tasty treats. We usually spend a week in more remote area (Puna) but like to stay here on arrival for a couple days. Great place to recharge after long flights, and check out Hilo town shops and restaurants.

Hale Kawehi is probably the most comfortable place we have ever stayed in over ten years of traveling to Hawai'i. Kawehi's hospitality and kindness can't be praised too highly. We always stay here when we come to Hilo.

Hale Kawehi is a beautiful, very comfortable home with every amenity you find in your own home. The fresh baked croissants and fresh fruit on arrival was terrific. The cold water and beverages in the refrigerator were much appreciated. It is in a very nice neighborhood. It was very clean and welcoming.

We have been coming to the Big Island for 20 years, but never stayed in downtown Hilo. This was a great first time in an authentic Hawaiian style home. Several relaxing seating areas, both inside and out, with interesting collectibles all around the house. The Hilo shops and restaurants are fairly closeby, and always interesting. Ditto the farmer's market (best/biggest on Wed. & Sat.). This was an excellent start to our 12 days on the island.

This guesthouse provides what we believe is a perfect example of the real Hawaii - laid back, very inviting and beautiful. The property is very clean and comfortable. The owner is the definition of aloha - how to live with joy and respect. Mahalo Kawehi.

This was our fourth visit with Kawehi's. Obviously, we wouldn't stay anywhere else in Hilo. She's a wonderful host, her house is very comfortable and well equipped, with so many different options for lounging around. These visits always add a terrific dimension to our Big Island trips. Thanks, Kawehi, for making your lovely home available to travellers. P.S. If you are in Hilo on a Tuesday, try to take in the Hawaii music night at the Hilo Town Tavern.

The living space and kitchen are screened, open air to a great porch with table and a lush, enclosed garden. The bedroom has a small air conditioner that while noisy does keep it cool. The house is filled with Hawaiian memorabilia, which those who prefer Ikea-style minimalism might not like. I have MCS (multiple chemical sensitivity) and had a couple of reactions but 9 times out of 10, I react to something in new places, including minimalist decors. But what made this a unique experience was our charming hostess Kawehi, a 70-something powerhouse who knows her history and was beyond helpful, delivering avocados and fruit upon request, regaling us with interesting tidbits about the island, and filled with an energetic enthusiasm that was catchy. If you want an authentic Hawaiian home in a real Hawaiian neighborhood with an authentic Hawaiian host, you will not be disappointed.

Our stay at Hale Kawehi was perfect and magical. Kawehi is the absolute perfect host and we only wish we had stayed here longer. Everything in the beautiful guesthouse is exactly as advertised…actually I have to say…it’s even better than advertised because you really need to be there to experience the beauty of it in person. My partner and I felt so welcomed by Kawehi’s energy and felt like we had total privacy. We had fresh croissants every day we were there, stocked refreshments and treats, which just added an even more welcoming and homey feel to our stay. Absolutely everything you could need is included in this guesthouse, from a firepit/bbq to cook on, to a full kitchen, which we cooked in. The openness of the floor plan and then sliding doors is spectacular, with the wraparound decks, seating, and garden. We felt totally safe and secure. The location is perfect, close and accessible to everything. We can’t say enough positive things about our stay here. We definitely hope to return to the Big Island and to Hilo, and we most certainly hope to stay again at Hale Kawehi.
