Stayed 15-17 Jul, used as a base to explore HVNP and area. A very unique inside/outside sea can home, nicely decorated with ample space and functioning kitchen to prep and cook. Due to no light pollution, stars gazing at night was amazing, seeing the milky way-breathtaking while sitting at the lava picnic table having cocktails. Highly recommended!

Arrived at dark which did mean we met the grumpy neighbor, but even that wasn’t too bad. The location is isolated, but for a couple of days it was perfect. My teenage boys loved exploring

We recently stayed here overnight while visiting Volcanos National Park. The property is VERY remote, like no joke off the grid-which is what makes it so cool and unique! The peace and quiet was refreshing! Step outside at night, look up and you will never forget what you see! The stars felt like you could touch them! You can hear the waves crashing along the cliff edges it's just simply magical! We did arrive during the day which I highly recommend. We walked down to the cliff's edge and had zero issues with the reported old grumpy neighbor, the path is easy to follow! Wear appropriate shoes otherwise, you may get cut by the lava rock. My only "negative" thing to say would be I didn't truly realize what being "off to grid" meant-LOL! I have been primitive camping and loved it but this is different. It's really not an actual negative on the property or owner because he makes it very clear, it's more of my own not truly understanding. Here is what I mean, I tried to sleep with doors & windows open to enjoy the amazing cool breeze, but I just couldn't. It was TOO quiet and with every little noise, I was up looking around. Oddly enough you hear dogs barking, aside from the ladies next door and we couldn't figure out where it was coming from. Then you gotta worry about rain getting inside the windows, it was just not a relaxing way to sleep for me. Plus I was there alone with my children, with no big tough man or weapon to defend myself-LOL (I am from South Florida what do you expect-HAHA)! You most definitely CAN NOT run the fans at night, I didn't realize this until the not-so-friendly lady next door chastised me first thing in the morning for leaving something on or running overnight because apparently, we drained the solar battery by running the fans. She either lives there or is a regular visitor to the property because according to her it's never happened before. I am sure them watching TV all night didn't contribute to the drainage I guess-who knows. It was also just over an hour's drive to the Volcano National Park which I for some reason thought was closer when I rented it. So that was a drag too but again not the owner's fault. Anyhow, it really was a super cool place to visit and worked out well for us but I personally wouldn't do more than one day for those reasons.

We loved our stay on the lava. We walked down to the cliffs to see the ocean also. Never ran into the grumpy neighbor so no issues there. An added perk was that because of the location, it was perfect for me to practice my astrophotography!

We had a great time at this off-grid property. The property manager was very responsive and helpful, the place was clean and nicely decorated, and the rooms are surprisingly well sound and light insulated. The views are just astonishing. From the stars at night to the coastline and the lava rock. This property made our trip 10x better.

We really enjoyed our stay at the house on the lava! We read previous reviews before we went and were prepared for the grumpy neighbor (although we never saw him) - it was a little alarming hearing so many reports of concerns there but actually kind of added to the feeling of adventure as we were hiking out along the property line over the lava flow to see the ocean. We were careful to follow the guidelines posted in the home and never had any issues. The home itself was great - we were careful to conserve both water and electricity and never ran out. I'm glad we only stayed a couple nights because the combination of worrying about conserving water/electricity and a potential run in with the neighbor would have gotten stressful over a longer stay, but we were glad we had the experience of staying in the completely unique location and having access to that hike across the lava flow. The lava is so much more recent and fascinating than anything we were able to experience in the national park. The hike out was not too strenuous or challenging for either my 4 year old daughter or my 74 year old mother and the view of the ocean cliff was spectacular. We had no trouble finding or accessing the property with Ron's detailed directions (although we were careful to arrive before dark - it would be substantially more challenging after dark). The kitchen had the basics - just barely enough dishes for our group of 5 and don't count on having the full range of utensils/pots/bowls for cooking or many of the staple spices, etc. The grill was a very small charcoal grill - we made it work but had to make a special trip for charcoal and lighter fluid. Overall it's not a place I would recommend for anyone who can't do without the full range of creature comforts or for very length stays, but for what our group was looking for it worked out really well.

We stayed here for 2 nights as a family of 5. Lots of room for all of us. We followed Ron's instructions for finding the place and it was fairly easy (in daylight). Once we had a couple of landmarks we had no problem finding it at night. This is true off grid living and we were thankful for the very sunny days to ensure we had full power. The water pump is loud although we expected this so it was a minor inconvenience. We enjoyed the beautiful sunrises and walked to the water's edge following Ron's instructions and enjoyed the enormous waves crashing into the cliff. Overall a great place to visit while exploring this area of the island.
