We very much enjoyed our recent stay in Harlem, a historic and interesting area. Malcom X Boulevard (Lenox Avenue) is just a couple of minutes walk away and offers a large choice of restaurants, bars and shopping. There is a Whole Foods supermarket a few blocks away and a much cheaper market in the opposite direction. The subway is less than 5 minutes walk with quick connections to downtown. 3 of us stayed in the Parlour Apartment which has a couch that converts to a very comfortable fold-out bed and other family members stayed in the Studio Apartment. Both are well equipped and nicely furnished. They are on the first floor of a 4 storey brownstone with a lovely stoop to sit on and enjoy a chat with passerby's. The friendly host lives on the property and was a valuable source of information about local restaurants and bars. We loved the extra space and would happily stay there again if we return to NYC.

Thank you so much for the great review! You were wonderful guests. It was fun having you and your friends stay in different units on the same floor. You were the last to stay in the Studio Apartment prior to the kitchen renovation. You must return. You will love the improvements! Dennis Harlem Hideaway.

We stayed in the Parlor Apartment over Christmas with our two daughters aged 13 & 11. It was the perfect size with plenty of room for the 4 of us. We much prefer this over a cramped hotel room, particularly when you're traveling with a lot of luggage. The Harlem Hideaway is in a perfect location, close to all of the wonderful attractions of New York. There is a subway a short walk away. We used the subway every day of our stay, it was the best way to get around & not hard to work out. The local people were always happy to help us out with directions. We loved having a kitchen to cook in. We were out every day site-seeing so it was lovely to come "home" and save a little by eating in at night. There is a supermarket and pharmacy very close by which we used daily. The apartment is fully equipped with all you need for cooking family meals. We also loved that the apartment had its own washing machine & dryer. This was a huge bonus. The apartment building and the apartment itself has loads of charm, character and original features which have been beautiful cared for. We really loved Harlem. Everyone was friendly & helpful, particularly, Dennis, the owner of the apartment. We caught a NY Knicks game whilst we were there and Dennis kindly printed out our tickets we'd purchased on line. Thank you Dennis for being such a wonderful host and providing us with a cozy haven to retreat to after our huge days out exploring the beautiful and exhilarating city of New York. We'll be back!!! Muito bom fui com a família, tudo aprovado ahh e o local e tranquilo para estacionar carro na rua, como visitamos outros estados nos EUA, estávamos de carro e foi tranquilo para achar vaga.

This is such a great location. Our host Dennis made us feel welcome and explained the surroundings. The apartment is cool and nicely furnished. All you need and even more. It is well located with minutes to great restaurants and transport. Even about 10 mins walk to Central Park. We loved everything about this area. We felt very safe.

We really enjoyed our stay in this appartment. Perfect and safe location with subway station nearby. Comfortable interior and good working airconditioning. Dennis was very friendly, helpfull, and service minded. Because of circumstances we had a rental car (not recommended in New York) but we were able to park it in front of the appartment. Only one small point of criticism: providing only one towel per person is not enough. When we asked for more, Dennis reminded us that we could use the washinging machine to wash the towels but when you are in New York, you don't want to do the laundry.

Thank you for the nice review. I enjoyed having you as guests. I am sorry about the misunderstanding regarding the towels, of which I do supply one bath and one hand towel and washcloth per person. You had asked for extra, prior to using any. However, I have never refused an exchange once a guest asks. I know now that I should have stated it that way, that you could exchange for a fresh one whenever you want. I apologize for not being clear and hope you return soon!

Our overall experience was wonderful! Dennis was warm and welcoming! The Harlem hideaway is clean, comfortable and stylish. It's conveniently located near the 2/3 express train which makes getting to lower Manhattan a breeze. 12 minutes to Times Square! There is a lovely little shared backyard or if you want to watch the neighborhood you can sit on the front stoop. We explored the surrounding neighborhood and found no shortage of gems that make Harlem unique and special. There are a number of restaurants in the area - we loved cocktails at Dirty Taco, chicken & waffles at Amy Ruth's and my son's favorite was burgers, fries & shakes at Harlem Shake. After long days of walking the Hideaway was a comfortable home away from home. We slept well each night. Dennis was able to give suggestions, fix our air conditioner and print out tickets for shows. His love for the building and neighborhood is apparent!

First let me say that my love for New York is indescribable. This was my 8th yearly visit, and each year I try to stay in a different neighborhood so that the experience is something new every time. I have always stayed in an apartment as I love the idea of a place that makes me feel like I live in New York, not staying as a guest. The Harlem Hideaway parlor apartment has captured my heart and I am hopelessly smitten with everything about it. The location is perfect. Just a few short blocks away from the northernmost entrance to Central Park, and a mere three blocks from the subway. The red line 2 or 3 trains (express) can get you to Times Square in 16 minutes. Don't worry about anything you may have heard about Harlem being a rough neighborhood. It's not. People are friendly, and Harlem is really becoming very 'gentrified' and trendy. There are loads of bars and restaurants nearby, a few supermarkets and delis for fresh food, an excellent wine store about 100 meters away. The apartment itself is on the ground floor of a quintessential New York brownstone building, so you get to feel like Carrie on Sex and The City. Dennis, the owner is the nicest, most accommodating landlords I have met on my extensive travels, and he will give you the absolute royal treatment from the moment you enter the building, making you feel as though you are the most important person ever to have stayed there. He lives upstairs and is always available if you need anything at all. The eclectic and delightful decor inside reflects his work as a designer, and the photographs of the apartment are more than true...if anything not doing it justice. It's fully equipped with everything you need to cook, rest or relax after a a big day in Gotham. The Museum of the City of New York to the east on 5th ave is within walking distance, as is the Riverside Church and Morningside Park to the west. Thanks Dennis, this is my new home in New York...thank you for everything and for the coming through on my special request for lots of snow. (The blizzard on 23rd/24th January was the 5th most intense in New York history!)

We loved our stay at Harlem Hideway Apartments. The unit was exactly how we pictured it. It was lovely & quiet and good to come home to after a busy day exploring downtown Manhattan. The subway was easily accessible and took no time to get around the city. Dennis was very pleasant and provided great information for local restaurants and attractions. Would definitley stay here again

We had a lovely time at Dennis' Harlem Hideaway. It really felt like we had found a home away from home in a unique area and a surprisingly peaceful tree lined street. Dennis was very welcoming and gave us lots of great tips for local restaurants and shops. We had a couple of great meals right in the neighbourhood. The local burger joint was delicious and the meal, hospitality and music at Billy's Black were a treat. The subway was a few minutes walk away and the two lines took us right into the heart of the city, or down to the World Trade Center or Battery Park. Central Park was less than 10 minutes walk as well. We'd heartily recommend Harlem Hideaway!

Stayed here with my husband, 25th June for a week and thoroughly enjoyed our experience. Apartment is in the heart of Harlem, but only 2 blocks away from the subway station which gives access to all of the delights of New York. Was a little apprehensive about booking a private rental as have always stayed in hotels on previous holidays abroad, but after noting the high price and small square footage of many of the central New York hotels , decided to opt for this instead. Dennis the landlord was there to greet us when we arrived and showed us around the apartment which was equipped with everything required and much more. Even had a washing machine and tumble drier which was a godsend and saved on a lot of dirty washing when returning back to the UK. Apartment was lovely, plenty of space, lovely bedroom with good sized windows . giving an airy and open feel. It was great to return to in the evening after a long day sightseeing with very tired feet! The large screen TV was super with plenty of channels to watch including many films. I can't recommend this highly enough and would say go and enjoy!
