We thoroughly enjoyed our 3 night stay at Bernard's apartment. The apartment is extremely comfortable, very spacious and spotlessly clean. Bernard's hotelier experience is most evident – everything from the apartment's design to its quality furnishings are all top notch. The delicious breakfast (included in tariff) is also hotel/restaurant quality – every morning something different is served – the fresh juices are exceptional, and the hoppers (both plain and egg) were so light & fluffy, yet still wonderfully crispy – the freshest and most delicious we tasted in our entire 6 weeks in Sri Lanka. The deliciously fresh tuna & onion sambal was absolutely out of this world! So good, I asked if Bernard's wife would kindly share the recipe. I'm so grateful she did (so very kind!), so now I can make it again and again myself. We loved having such a well equipped kitchen. After travelling for almost 6 weeks, it was wonderful to be able to cook our own evening meal for a change. The small, but very comfortable, outdoor veranda was perfect for enjoying breakfast. The very spacious bedroom has a super effective air-conditioner, plus extra nice touches like quality drapes that properly block out the light, a quality mosquito net, and 4 pillows on the bed (luxurious!). The apartment also has a washing machine (perfect if you're booking a beach escape for a week or more!). The shower even has a squeegee (floor mop – the style that you clean glass with) so that you can clear the water from the bathroom floor after taking a shower (amazing – if only more Sri Lankan bathrooms included one of these!). Bernard and his wife both have the most charming personality, and they are extremely willing to help the guests however they can. Bernard has the amazing ability of being able to 'read' his guests – on arrival he offers assistance (sightseeing, transport, etc), but isn't forceful in doing so. He is very respectful of allowing his guests privacy, but if you want to talk, he is also happy to engage in delightful conversation (we had several lovely chats with his family). Bernard arranged our arrival and onward transport which was reasonably priced (both were by tuk tuk, which is how we asked to travel). Both Bentota Beach and Moragalla Beach (we preferred the latter, as it's much quieter – and the walk along Seelananda Road is most pleasant) are an easy 10-15 min walk from the apartment. Supermarkets (both Cargills & Keells) are very nearby. The advertised pictures are a very accurate representation, and Bernard responds to all communications very promptly. Overall, we highly recommend to others.
