Comfortable Relaxing Cottage
Lephin Cottage is beautifully looked after, comfortable, spacious and relaxing, with everything one would need on holidays. Andy Stables is a very friendly host and we enjoyed talking to him when he came to tend to his hens. They produce perfect eggs too! The surrounding walks are delightful, and the scenery beautiful, particularly when the sun shines giving everything a glow! It is in a good location for driving to other parts of Skye. We loved staying in Glendale with its beautiful views, and I particularly enjoyed finding out where my ancestors lived and worked.

A Beautiful Week in an Idyllic Location
Lephin Cottage is located on the Isle of Skye in the lovely little village of Glendale, just to the north of MacLeod’s Tables and about 7 miles west of Dunvegan. Access to Glendale is via a single track road with passing places, and whilst this may make some people apprehensive about driving the route, the road surface is good and there are plenty of passing places to make the trip quite easy. Lephin cottage is located just a short walk from the Glendale Village shop, which sells just about all the groceries you’ll need. Also located nearby is Café Lephin. Lephin Cottage is one of the best provisioned and cleanest cottages we have ever stayed in!! As well as a WC/bathroom on the upper floor, it also has two bedrooms: a double and a twin. On the ground floor there is a good sized lounge, with comfortable leather couch and armchairs, satellite TV, DVD player and a selection of DVDs and board games. The kitchen is well-stocked and comes complete with a bread maker. The dining room is located in a lovely airy extension to the rear of the property, along with a WC/shower room and a large storage cupboard. The WiFi is amazingly fast! Heating is provided by electric storage heaters, but the weather was so warm when we were there that we had to switch these off! There is also a garage that can be used for storing bicycles, roof rack, etc. If you are a walker there are lots of great walks around this area, and the cottage owner has kindly left lots of maps detailing these walks. However, there are lots of other places to see in the area too: from Neist Point Lighthouse, to the Fairy Pools at Glen Brittle, to Dunvegan Castle and gardens, Portree and Dun Beag broch. Also, there are some great local places to eat, with the Michelin star Three Chimneys restaurant just a few miles away, and the Loch Bay restaurant at Stein, owned by Michelin Star Chef Michael Smith, a must visit place. Not forgetting the Old School House is Dunvegan which is definitely worth a visit. During the week we stayed, there was a Craft Fair in Glendale Community Hall, less than 200 yards away from the cottage. However, there are local craft outlets, with both Wheatear Textiles and Skye Weavers being just a short walk away. The hospitality of the owner and the Glendale locals we met was great, the scenery was fantastic, the food delicious and weather bright and sunny. What more can anyone really ask of a holiday?

Superb!
We spent a good deal of time choosing the place in which we wanted to stay on our first visit to Skye. We were not disappointed. The cottage is conveniently situated next door to the shop/post office and over the road from a café, as well as being a well-worth-the -effort walk a mile uphill to the wonderful Red Roof Café. The surrounding area of Glendale is very pretty and much of it is visible through the lounge window. The cottage itself is absurdly well-equipped with basic groceries in the cupboards that you are welcome to use providing you replace them when you leave. This made arriving late afternoon on a Saturday when the shops were shutting less of a problem. The bedrooms are spacious, the beds very comfortable and the whole house furnished as you would your own house. The kitchen is large and has a fullsized fridge and freezer as well as all you could want, even a breadmaker. Andy left a box of his free range eggs for us - a real treat. The surrounding countryside is beautiful, with details of local walks in the cottage information file, but should you not be as fortunate as we were with the weather, there are books and games as well as a television in the cottage lounge. Lephin Cottage is a wonderful place to stay and I would recommend it unreservedly.

A home away from home, fully stocked & equipped
I had the pleasure of staying for a week in this comfortable house in the rather remote but very beautiful and spectacular part of the Isle of Skye. The amazing photography of Lephin's host Andy Stables that I had been following on Facebook prior to my stay brought my attention to this lovely cottage. Lephin cottage leaves nothing to be desired (with the exception perhaps of a dishwasher) and we were so impressed by how well the kitchen was stocked, from a breadmaker with all required ingredients for making fresh bread, to spices, oil, red and white wine, tea and coffee. At the welcome we were even given a box of fresh eggs laid by the host's own hens on the hill above the cottage! I also loved being surrounded by Andy Stables' superb photographs of Neist Point and other local sights which are displayed on the walls of the cottage. The visitors' manual is incredibly comprehensive and addresses all possible questions that could arise during one's stay as well as providing many suggestions for worthwhile excursions and activities. To sum it all up: Lephin has the feel of someone's beloved home that one is fortunate to enjoy when being Andy's guest. Being as well equipped and stocked as it is, it compensates for its fairly remote location. Having said that, the local post office & shop is conveniently located next to the cottage in case you run out of basics. Very highly recommended!

About the neighbourhood
Situated in the heart of Glendale the cottage is a perfect base for exploring the area. Whether it be a walk to the Black beach with its volcanic black sand, a trip to Neist Point where you will find a large variety of birdlife and possibly even a Minke whale, Porpoise or if you're really lucky an Orca, or a relaxing afternoon sat on the garden bench watching the antics of our hens you are guaranteed to find something to please.
Getting around
Driving in the Highlands has an etiquette and ‘code’ of its own that makes the journey safe and enjoyable for every road-user but can seem strange to first-time visitors: Single-Track Roads • Use passing places to allow cars behind you to overtake, as well as to allow on-coming traffic to pass. • Never pull into passing places that are on your right, wait opposite them instead. • Flash your headlights when you reach a passing place to show the on-coming vehicle you are waiting for them to pass.
Access
Car required
How to get there
The approximate journey times to/from the cottage, by car, are as follows: Broadford (1 hour), Skye Bridge (1½ hours), Fort William (3 hours), Inverness (3 hours), Crianlarich (4½ hours), Glasgow M74/M73 Jtn (6 hours), Gretna Green/The Border (7 hours). Allow extra in Summer and if you make any stops. Don’t be fooled into thinking you’ll be able to ‘put your foot down’; in summer, you will be very lucky to average 50mph once you leave the motorways at Stirling/Glasgow.
