One of my favourite areas
Found this great place last summer, enjoyed it so much returned this year for my birthday weekend. Had a lovely meal at the sandpaper. Cottage very clean and cosy.We enjoyed the nearby villages and Leyburn itself is surrounded by picturesque views. Some reviews have complained about traffic noise but surely in a popular area isn't this expected and aren't we contributing to that by visiting the area .

sadly disappointed
Booked for 7 nights but we left after 5 as we were in the middle of a heat wave and had very little sleep due to horrendous noise from the traffic passing by and difficulty opening the windows. The Bolthole is between two busy roads with no garden and very heavy traffic from around 6am each day and loads of noisy motorbikes on Saturday and Sunday. The cottage is ok in itself but has very steep stairs with a bend to access the first floor. (Not good if you have mobility issues. ) It is however handy for local services like shops and pubs. The owner was very helpful and its a shame that I feel the need to write this review but i have to be honest.

A Little Piece of Heaven!
An incredible few days away for a much needed break. The Bolthole has everything you need for eating in (I was very impressed with the amount of cutlery, glasses, pots and pans in the kitchen) or if you want to eat out there is a huge choice of pubs and supermarkets on the doorstep. Lots of wonderful places to see and we did! We sunbathed by James Herriot's water splash with a picnic, walked Aysgarth Falls and had an incredible afternoon at Brimham Rocks, having picnicked in Grassington, a slightly longer drive away. And not forgetting a wonderful morning in Middleham watching the racehorses! We bought lots of fresh produce from the market in Leyburn on Friday (try the Delice de Bourgogne cheese from the Cheesy Grin stall coupled with pears from the fruit stall!). The cottage was a wonderful place to relax in the evenings. We had one rainy afternoon so took advantage of this to relax in front of the woodburner and catch up on our favourite TV series whilst watching the Leyburn world go by. Can't wait for our next visit!

The Bolthole
Cottage very clean and comfortable. Unfortunately very close to busy road and traffic very noisy. Although we were told there was no garden we did not realise there was a road to the front and back with both doors straight onto pavement which was not ideal with our dogs but we managed. The manager was very accommodating with our dogs as most supposedly pet friendly accommodation then limit dogs to 1 or 2. We enjoyed our stay at the bolthole

Thanks for your feedback. I'm glad you and your four dogs enjoyed your stay. I have since stayed there myself and listened to the noise - I acknowledged the presence of some sound and so I've now stalled a heavy duty curtain over the door, which appeared to be the main source. This has made a big difference. I'm glad you all enjoyed yourselves.

Absolutely fabulous break. Such a well equipped cottage and in such a perfect location. Lovely shops and pubs within walking distance and stunning walks direct from the cottage. We truly had the most wonderful time! Would recommend to anyone 😊

The Bolthole Leyburn
The location is good as everything you need is within walking distance. Plenty to do in the area and the accommodation is well equipped. Little bit noisy with the traffic but as it was our second visit we were aware of such. Cottage needs a little TLC in places but nevertheless perfectly acceptable.

Lovey area but a bit let down
We stayed for a birthday treat for myself and my hubby. Location is great right in middle of town, but disappointed at the cleaning. Couch and carpets grubby and shower full of mildew, cleaner leaves a lot to be desired as old food under the sofa. I couldn’t mop or brush as there wasn’t one in the property. Such a shame cause bed was comfortable as was the cottage it’s self. Maybe change the cleaner Road was noisy but didn’t bother us, Leyburn is lovely but wouldn’t stay again at the bolt hole sorry

Thank you for your feedback. I am extremely concerned that you found the cleaning levels to be below standard. I can assure you that the specific points you raised have been addressed and the more general issue has also been dealt with. I sincerely hope that, should you wish to return, you will have a significantly better experience. Nick

Wonderful break away
Just spent 3 days/nights at this fabulous little cottage. Absolutely perfect, very comfortable and well equipped. The Bolthole is perfectly situated in lovely Leyburn, which has got everything you need. All the amenities you need & plenty of places to eat and drink. We will certainly be returning and The Bolthole will be our first choice.

A Relaxing 4 days in Leyburn
A very cosy and well equipped cottage, positioned perfectly in a village that has ample facilities, including 4 pubs, 3 of which serve food and are dog friendly, a Co op supermarket with an ATM and coffee shops/tea rooms. We went at a very cold part of the year but the cottage was always warm from the central heating and there is also a log burner too should you need it. It’s pet friendly too and our little dog settled in well and loved the walks that are easily accessible. We would highly recommend anyone staying here and even though we don’t have young children, there’s a lovely bedroom with bunk beds that is a great little hideaway for little ones. A very relaxing and thoroughly enjoyable stay was had by all. Thank you to its owner!

Bolthole
Stayed at this cottage for a week from 30th Dec 17, fantastic location, lovely little cottage, very warm and cosy , log burning stove was a dream over these cold wet winter days, this cottage has everything you need from towels , pots pans, cleaning items etc , recent reviews were negative regarding road noise , yes you can hear it but you are staying in a village so if you want total peace and quiet then book a cottage out in the sticks, this is our first stay in this cottage ,we are campers and often come to this location in our caravan but decided to try this cottage for a change and I'm pleased we did ,I would highly recommend it and would return again , the only minor negative I have is that it could do with a little update (lick of paint , new carpets etc) but it wouldn't stop us from returning , it's comfy and cosy and it's a great base to explore this fantastic countryside

About the neighbourhood
Leyburn is a thriving town with a local market every Friday. Farmers Markets are held throughout the year. The Leyburn Shawl is a few minutes' walk from the cottage and provides wonderful views over Wensleydale and is also excellent walking territory. MIddleham, famous for views of racehorses training on the gallops is only two miles away and is linked to Leyburn by an usual suspension bridge built in 1829. Leyburn hosts its own food festival in May in each and the Wensleydale Show is held in Leyburn each August Bank Holiday weekend. There is also a single track railway which runs through Leyburn and in the summer the steam train can often been seen in the station at Leyburn with timetabled services running between Leeming Bar and Redmire via Leyburn.
