We absolutely loved this cottage - it had everything we needed, very comfortable, dog friendly, welcoming and helpful host and in a perfect location for exploring South Yorkshire. The grounds were fabulous with plenty of space to let the dog have a run around. Would definitely recommend!

we stayed here for 4 days in january for a wedding at holmfirth. It had all you need for a comfortable quite stay, the views out of the windows are excellent, private wood and small lake make it stunning. One morning we saw deer grazing just below the window. The apartment is spotless, warm with comfy beds and cracking showers. Its only a short drive into Holmfirth and to lots of walks into the country.I can recommend this place with confidence.

Very nice and clean accommodation which is set in interesting grounds and friendly owners. The only thing fly in the ointment was that the flushing mechanism on the en-suite loo was virtually inoperable. This apparently has been on an going problem for a while. We specifically booked the Lodge because of its dual bath and toilet facilities. We believe that some kind of blind or curtain in the bathroom would be useful for vanity purposes.

A beautiful location, quiet and peaceful but close to the interesting town of Holmfirth. Very well fitted out and nice and warm. Lovely bathrooms, we would stay again if the need arose,

An absolute gem of a find! So peaceful and with private grounds you can lose yourself in. Tastefully furnished with fitting of high quality and well equipped. The owners have gone to a lot of trouble to ensure the accommodation is welcoming and comfortable. The dogs were also made at home and enjoyed the scenic walks available straight from the cottage.

Jake, our Springer Spaniel, rated this first class, for dog friendliness, good local walks and dog friendly pubs that sell pork scratchings. From a human viewpoint it is excellent, Sarah offers a great welcome to a well equipped, spotless flat. From the welcome pack to the extensive gardens what is not to like.

There is a well equipped kitchen with a pleasant open plan sitting/dining room upstairs, with two cosy bedrooms downstairs, the double en-suite, plus a family bathroom. It is in the very peaceful grounds of an attractive big house. The landlady and family are very friendly and welcoming. It has convenient parking, and is central for us to visit friends and family in West & North Yorkshire, and in Lancashire, being close to the M62, and handy for a day trip to York. We went to The Deep aquarium in Hull and the National Railway Museum in York. We have stayed here nine years running and always enjoyed our stay.

A lovely cosy cottage set in a secluded valley just a few minutes from Holmfirth. I really enjoyed my 4 night stay with my Patterdale Terrier. Lots of lovely walks at some of the local reservoirs and woods. Some shopping at the weekly farmers market before some tea and cake at Sid's Cafe, made famous by The Last of the Summer Wine, in Holmfirth. Some great days out including Cannon Hall Farm, Pot House Hamlet and the historic Nostell Priory at Wakefield. A 20 minute trip to Tankersley Manor to the relaxing spa. The owners were very welcoming and helpful with ideas of places to visit and local dog walks. We can't wait to go back.

About the neighbourhood
The centre of Holmfirth will be well recognised by fans of Last Of The Summer Wine. With the river running through the centre, steps and steep, narrow cobbled roads lead away from the church that was built on the site of the original fifteenth century church. Climbing through the ginnels that zig-zag up the hill you soon get a feel for how life must have been many years ago. Taking time to pause and turn round, you get a marvellous view of the town and the beautiful countryside that surrounds it. Holmfirth’s character stems from sandstone buildings that are arranged on the steep hillsides that form the Holme Valley.
