Brilliant family holiday
Brilliant relaxing holiday, we booked 3 cottages as there was 10 of us , the accommodation was better than we had expected and very comfortable. The manager Steve was like the Pied Piper with our3 youngest members (2 x 4rs & a 5 yr) and the family room was brilliant with ever possible entertainment. The boys enjoyed the horses we certainly would like to return again. Thanks Vi & Steve for the memories

Lovely place to stay with great facilities and onsite team.
We booked Elm cottage for a few days, as it sleeps 7 people in three bedrooms. We travelled over from England to celebrate our 45th wedding anniversary with friends and family and our two offspring with their spouses joined us, also travelling from England. We'd stayed in this cottage for Christmas with the same folks a few years ago and knew what to expect, lots of space, everything one could need and a games room nearby if the NI weather was not good. The cottage more than lived up to our expectations, even providing a starter groceries pack. Steve and Li-anne, who look after the property were really helpful and friendly without being in any way intrusive. Vi, the owner of the cottages, was great about the booking and other arrangements. All-in-all a great break at a great place.

Paradise
From the moment we arrived we were welcomed and treated like family. We will definitely be visiting again to enjoy the peace, beauty, and quiet of this wonderful property. The caretakers, Steve & Li-Anne were very kind and helpful. We will definitely recommend this property to all our friends and family. It truly was a paradise.

Groundskeeper harasses you
We stayed here recently for a wedding we booked all cottages bar one! With us we had 7 children in total! On arrival we were met by Steve the groundskeeper who stated to us that any stains makeup or fake tan on any of the bedsheets straight off we would lose our deposit! Which is understandable but I think they should state this to you on booking! However he give us the tour of our cottages which were excellent had everything you needed was clean and well equipped also games room which we were told was for the kids and ourselves to enjoy and again was excellent had numerous toys and tables to fit all age ranges! As soon as tours where over and we were allocated our correct cottage we where them asked for the money however as we book as a group it was up our group leader to sort out the finance side of things to which we replied that we knew nothing about it and they would need to speak with them! Later on other guests were arriving and again hounded for the money! Within hours of arriving we had been told on numerous occasions the kids needed to keep the games room tidy they needed to be quiet they needed bring any toys they were playing with back in before getting another one! The kids where continuously coming to us and complaining that Steve was constantly on their backs and was basically being rude! We let this slide as we know the kids can be abit rowdy! The following day we were out for the entire day until late that night! The third day the kids again constantly coming in and out scared to play one of our children was 15 he was playing his Xbox in his own cottage and his parents had went for a walk Steve had knocked on the door and again complained as he was in the cottage on his own without his parents! I tidied the games room and between all of us someone always checked on the kids frequently! They kids where accused of breaking a fence which can I add was already broken! One of our guests asked for clean towels on the third night to which he was told that there was 5 placed in his 4 man cottage he asked for clean towels as we had been staying there for 3 nights and showered every day! He got them after some hostility and being told to control our kids as they were just running wild! On the last day check out was at 10.30! At 6.45am Steve was outside throwing glass bottles in bins outside and causing a lot of noise wakening our children up! This then continued at 8am he had a radio blasting also again wakening other guests! All in all our stay here felt somewhat stalked he was continuously watching us having issues complaining harassing guests! However the cottages themselves are impressive and clean!

As the property owner I have not responded promptly to this review as I was hoping the guests would, on reflection, remove it. This was not a question of an over zealous manager harassing guests. Shortly after their arrival I visited the property to find a young child unsupervised hurtling downhill on a scooter and he would have been under my car wheels had I not been approaching very slowly. After falling over, he kicked the door of a cottage to alert an adult who appeared and, when I told her of the danger he was in, she told me "he has ADHD and I can do nothing with him". Behaviour such as this continued throughout their stay. The children were mostly unsupervised and, at times, putting themselves in danger as the adults partied. The manager most certainly did not complain about a 15 year old being alone or was rude to the children. He merely tried to keep them safe and stop them causing damage. No-one was "hounded" for money and, in fact, the person who booked the cottages had no money, did not pay and has, to date, not paid for the accommodation for his wedding party who stayed for 3 days. When asked for payment before leaving he described the venue as "awesome", said they had had a wonderful time, apologised for the behaviour of the children saying " we just let them run wild", apologised to me that he had no money and asked for a few extra days to pay. This was granted and then he stopped answering calls and e-mails! No consideration was given to other guests who were staying with us at the same time. The games room is for all of our guests to enjoy and not to be trashed! All in all this is a most inaccurate account of what actually happened and most unfair criticism of my managers who go the extra mile to ensure that our guests stay safe and have a thoroughly enjoyable experience. I also feel that it is amazing to leave such a review for something that you haven't even paid for!!

Will Def be back
We booked 4 cottages for a family weekend away (18people). All the cottages were very well equipped and clean. The children loved the games room it was a big hit for all ages adults too. We enjoyed a walk around the various trails. We booked for dinner in a local restaurant one evening which was lovely too and very handy. Will definitely be booking over summer months.

Will definitely be back
We needed to travel to Northern Ireland for a family emergency and we found the Barnwell Farm Country Cottages online. As if was only the two of us, we went for the small Flax Cottage initially for 5 nights but we enjoyed it so much we ended up extending it twice, so basically we did 13 or 14 nights there. We arrived late in the evening and found that the care takers had stocked the kitchen with some basic supplies, which was a nice touch. It had everything we needed, being December having the log fire was an extra bonus, as was Seamus the cat coming to visit us regularly. Will definitely be back there again on our next trip home.

Winter at Barnwell
We enjoyed our family winter break at Barnwell. The cottages are cosy and comfortable and set in beautiful countryside. Excellent amenities on site - farmland walks and trails, games room, laundry facility, and also very close to Greyabbey village with good coffee shops, restaurants and the Abbey ruins are well worth exploring. Highly recommended.

Great for all ages
We stayed in Elm cottage with our 4 children aged between 8 - 14. The cottage was very clean, tidy and spacious. The children really enjoyed the games room and spent quite a bit of time there. Steve the manager was very helpful with anything we needed. As a family we generally stay in a self catering cottage each year. This certainly has been one that stands out from the rest. Highly recommended for a holiday in Co Down. *****

Barnwell Farm Cottages - Elm Cottage
Barnwell Farm Cottages - Elm Cottage We stayed with three young children in Elm Cottage for a week in July. The cottage is spacious, well equipped with a good gas BBQ and a large wood burning stove. There was plenty of space for three generations. One bedroom and bathroom are set apart across the stairs from the other two bedrooms and bathroom and this was very handy to give granny some space. The games room is huge and each day the children spent time playing air hockey, table tennis and enjoying the ride on toys, dolls prams and diggers. There’s is a good book collection for adults and lots of information on the local area. It was a hit with us as we had quite a lot of rain early on in the week so there were no complaints of boredom as the games room kept everyone occupied. Steve and family manage the property and live on site. He was really helpful, nothing was too much trouble. The location of the cottages is ideal, five minutes from greyabbey, ten minutes from Mountstewart and about 20 minutes to Millisle and on to Donaghadee. Harrison’s of Greyabbey is just at the end of the road and one visit there was not enough, the children had us back for ice creams and the children’s play area. Great coffee and lovely owners and staff. Opens at 9am for good breakfasts. The views of the Lough are lovely and I will be recommending Harrison’s to others. Mountstewart is less than 10 minutes away and we visited the new natural play area twice. Even in the rain the kids did not want to leave, it is fantastic, have never been to any playpark like it in Northern Ireland. it is a bit of a walk up a hill so I was glad our three are no longer in prams. Cool den making area, trees the kids can climb into, lots of fun. I did the house tour of Mountstewart without the kids. It was wonderful to see the restored rooms and the 45 minute tour was perfect early in the day. I expect later in the day the place is very busy. Lovely to see the restored chapel just after the family had been to a service in it. Mountstewart is quite unique as you really do feel you are visiting a lived in magnificent property. It is well worth a visit and in particular for anyone local who hasn’t been for a while like us. Bangor Aurora pool was another morning trip and at 10.30am on a rainy Sunday it was packed. As our children are young I think I would have needed one adult to one child, rather than 2adults to 3 children. The kids loved the wave pool. Eden Pottery is about 20 minutes away from Barnwell Farm Cottages and it was great fun to choose and decorate a piece of pottery. The coffee and scones were delicious and it was very hard to resist the pottery for sale. I would recommend Barnwell Farm Cottages for a Count Down holiday, its location is great near Mountstewart, the Long sandy beaches of Ballywalter, lovely seaside town of Donaghadee with a Childrens playpark and splash pool and Ballycopeland Windmill, Eden Pottery.
