About the neighbourhood
Ostuni is right in the middle of Puglia, at the northern end of the Salento peninsula, so an ideal place to explore the region from. The centro storico is dominated by the cathedral at the summit of the hill, with narrow winding streets housing all sorts of shops, restaurants and bars. The new town benefits from all modern shops and outlets. Further afield, Ostuni is within easy reach of a number of other towns and cities, such as Ceglie Messapica, famous for it's food, or Alberobello, the town of 1400 trulli. Beaches of all shapes and sizes are within a short distance, many accessible by bus or train.
Getting around
It is recommended that you hire a car for your stay if you want to explore the surrounding area, but it is not absolutely essential. Ostuni train station is a 5-10 minute bus journey from the centro storico (for around a euro per ticket), and is on the main Foggia/Bari to Brindisi/Lecce line. From various stations on this main line you can access the smaller local railways and get to a lot of the local towns and attractions.
