Dream come true
We recently completed a 1 month stay at La Posada Romana (month of September 2023) as part of a 4 ½ month retirement celebration trip in Europe and Spain. I have wanted to spend an extended visit in Andalucia for many years and spent over 2 years searching the best place to stay in the Ronda Sierra once I decided this was the area I wanted to stay in. I tried to read and research all I could to gain an understanding for the area and which place to rent. For this reason I will spend time on this review in hopes that it might help others. In my search for places to rent I kept coming back to thinking Posada Romana was the right place for us even though originally I was just hunting for a place for my husband and myself. I am so happy I made the choice. La Posada Romana was perfect for our visit in this area although a little different than what I originally envisions our month to be. We were just the 2 of us for about 2/3 of the month and then had friends and family visiting for the last part of our visit. I originally imagined going into Gaucin everyday and becoming part of the town life when not going on day side trips. In the end, the house and location were so beautiful and tranquil that I really had limited desire to leave the property. I loved spending time starting at morning coffee till midnight dinners on the terrazzo with views constantly changing in the light and really always staying cool (there are ceiling fans) in September all day. As the month went on, evenings became cooler and we bought firewood with Diego’s help and had a fire in the outdoor fireplace at night. I also swam most days (even though I thought the water was very cold) and I used the gym equipment. I finished the day with a bath and looking at stars outside the open window by the bath. It was an amazing month in my life and I already am dreaming of going back. I thank Miren, her husband, and Diego for helping a wonderful stay. You have a very special place. This was an wonderful experience for us. Some logistics and practical information: • It is a hard hike up the hill as noted by other reviewers. We hiked all over mountains in Norway, Asturias, and Basque region this trip and nothing was as difficult as this hike straight up the hill. That said, our son and wife from Colorado that visited who hike 14ers all the time had not problem but our other adult children thought it was hard. • Miren was a great help before the visit and is ready to help with questions and getting to house. • The road from the highway is a bit dauting at first, but we totally got use to driving it after the first few days and even drove it at night. • I love to cook and enjoyed cooking in this big kitchen. I bought a few extra pans, utensils and lots of herbs and spices that I left for next guests. • Diego was always willing to help via WhatsApp. He did not speak English but with my bad Spanish we always could communicate. WE enjoyed getting to know him. • We loved the master suite. Bed was very comfortable. There was a fan in the room and temperature for sleeping was great with screened windows open. That said, I am not sure how it would work with sharing this place with other couples who might be splitting the cost. There was 2 other bedrooms that I would consider master bedrooms with large bathrooms but most other bedrooms were smaller. For us, this did not matter as our cousins, children and their spouses only stayed for a few days. And some quests from Spain just came for dinner. • Our daughter came with our 2 grandchildren ages 15 months and 3 it was perfect for their visit. We had lots of fun in the big yard with them. There was a crib and high chair, and children’s toilet seat which Diego cleaned and set up for us and we left lots of toys. The pool was so much fun for the 3-year-old. • We found going to Estepona for groceries pretty easy to do – exactly 45 minutes to the Hyperstore and they have all options. We also went to the Mercadona in Ronda which had great prices but more limited selection. Depending on your taste, the grocery store in Gaucin is a bit limiting in selection and specialty items but was fine for everyday needs. We also were to the Wine store in town about every 3rd day and got to know the owner. Very nice. • As for the town of Gaucin, it was a little different than what I expected. Aside from a few basic stores, there is not much in town. I was imagining more art galleries and creative shops and at least 1 good bakery. How does a town survive without a Pasteleria??? Thus for a birthday celebration it was up to me to bake a cake. Gaucin, as in most towns in Andalucia all shut down and pull in from 2-5:30. Even at night the town was quiet. There are some really good restaurants there. Platero Y Co especially but make reservations right away. • A big reason I wanted to go to this area was to get back to riding (horses) more often. There is a wonderful stable 25 minutes away down the road near Casares. I highly recommend it even if you don’t ride a lot. Fun in the Sun. • We loved playing Pantanque (or bocci) and there are balls and a court (a bit filled with weeds but made it more a challenge) in front of house. Great fun. • Suggestions of items to bring: Face washcloth if you use them. Not provided – typical in Spain. A top sheet if you like using one as the comforters are a bit warm for southern Spain. Candles for there are lots of candle holders. Bug spray but we saw very few mosquitos. A mini-speaker if you like music. A connecting card to connect computer or phone or tablet to the TV as there is limited channel selection and its all-Spanish channels.

Amazing Stay in Posada Romana
The location is simply unique and wonderful - Miren made us feel most welcome in her very large and conformable house and was extremely flexible with arrival and departure times. We made great use of the indoor swimming pool and had amazing weather. Everything was perfect ! Diego who looks after the house was very friendly and helpful at all times. The surroundings are truly exceptional. I would recommend a 4x4 to drive to the house down the track to be safe and confortable . I would come again anytime.

Beautiful house-fantastic week
We travelled as 2 families with 4 adults and 5 young children 3-9. The house was immaculate and spacious. Amazing views. Yes there is a bumpy ride down to the house from gaucin but it’s doable. Only thing to make it even better would be outdoor pool as found we didn’t hang out in the sun very much. But would be different if we weren’t having to supervise young children constantly. The indoor pool is on the smallish side but worked well for the children.

A Dream Vacation
We stayed at La Romana Posada for almost 2 weeks and loved every minute of it! We were a group of 17 people - adults and kids. The house is magnificent and the views are breathtaking. We couldn't get enough of it! Just PERFECT. The indoor pool is a treat, especially during colder weather. Just make sure to request to heat it up prior to your arrival. Miren, the property owner, was fantastic from the beginning - helped me get things organized prior to our arrival, answered all my endless questions and once we were at the house, immediately helped with anything we requested/needed. Diego, the house manager on site was fantastic and we fell in love with Ester, who cooked and cleaned for our big group. Such kind and warm people! Ester's cooking is to die for - paella; oxtail; lamb; veal stew. I'm still dreaming of her flan dessert. As for the "off-road" leading to the house - it's absolutely fine. Mostly paved and partly gravel and once you've done it once and know what to expect, not difficult or scary at all. We even drove several times in the dark. Guacin is a cute, quiet little white village to lovely to walk around in.

Beautiful villa in the mountains
We spent a week in this beautiful villa. The house is spacius, secluded with a beautiful garden with vegetables and fruits. The mountain scenery is breathtaking. The villa is quite close to the lovely village of Gaucin which is well worth a visit. Remember to rent a car that can manage country roads.

Splendid isolation
This spacious holiday villa is beautifully designed and well-appointed from the lighting system through to the kitchen. The views are extraordinary, and while it's very private, it's not far from Gaucin - a five minute drive or a 30 minute walk if you don't mind the hill. It is clean with modern furniture, and has a long indoor pool. The gardens are filled with lime, lemon and orange trees. I recommend it. The minor downside are that there is no dedicated bathroom on the top floor for the small bedrooms, only the large en suite for the master bedroom and that the drive to property up the track tested our small rental car a little.

A simply sensational property
From the first contact with Miren Valle, the owner, to our arrival in Spain she was so friendly, helpful and prompt in replying to my queries. La Posada Romana is simply stunning. The first sight as you enter the driveway will take your breath away. We were escorted to the Villa by Diego the gardener/handyman who was so helpful and kind. The entire property is finished & furnished to the highest of standards. We were a party of 11, ranging from 18yrs to 84, who all enjoyed our stay equally. A special holiday at a special location. This was our 3rd stay in the Gaucin area, the most stunning of Pueblo Blancos in andalucía. Despite our dire lack of ability in Spanish, the villagers were all welcoming and helpful. I would recommend a 4x4 vehicle to negotiate the track from Gaucin to the Villa, whilst the driveway at La Posada Romana is perfect, the track leading to it does get rough in places, but don't let that put you off, it's a minor inconvenience more than adequately compensated when you reach this magical Villa. The location is perfect for sun lovers (huge patio with plenty of loungers), walkers, and birdwatchers alike. Thank you Miren & Diego, we hope to return soon.

Beautiful Villa
This villa is stunning. Beautiful views and very tastefully furnished throughout. The kitchen is modern and extremely well equipped. Everywhere is very comfortable, relaxing and modern. Often in rental villas the furniture can be drab as the owners are not using it..not here..every piece of furniture and furnishings has been picked out and matched beautifully. We had 10 members of family staying and there was plenty of room for everyone. The kids really enjoyed the indoor pool which was great as we had a couple of cloudy days. The villa is very peaceful a great stay to switch off and get away from it all...the only downside is the road approaching the villa, but you get used to it in the end and the view of the house is well worth putting up with it. The gardens are very pretty and there is plenty of land for exploring! Miren is extremely helpful and accommodating when booking etc. We really enjoyed our stay and would love to return one day.

A lovely week in Gaucin
The house and property is nothing less than spectacular. Tastefully decorated and extremelly well equiped with all you can imagine and more. Since I love to cook, the kitchen was a chef's dream. Plenty of counter/cabinet space, Modern apliances beautifully appointed, and everything one could think of as a chef in a professional kitchen. The bedrooms and bathrooms are spacious and modern I would say very luxurious. I kept getting lost, the house is so large...And most importantly, the house and surrounds, pool, etc were immaculately clean. Diago the Gardener and manager of the property keeps the property grounds inmaculate, and provided us with som free range eggs of his hens. We can't rave enough or give enough "stars" to the entire experience, from the first email, directions to the house, payment, helping us to book a day trip to Tangier (you simply must!), and a myriad of other details. They truly must love making everything so special Thank you Miren for a phenomenal week in your home! Can't wait to return! Cyndy and Edward, England.
