We are ideally situated as a welcoming touring base (N, S, E and W) in the heart of Mackenzie and Fraser “Outlander” country. Great for walking, as well as motor exploration of the world-renowned NC500. Nature is all around. 25 mins NW of Inverness and halfway between Dingwall and Strathpeffer – a walker's paradise, as well as being a great central base for day or half day trips in the car. Many guests decide to make a full day trip to Orkney from here, as well as taking the opportunity to travel on the Dingwall-Kyle of Lochalsh railway...Honeysuckle Cottage is a traditional Highland cottage attached to the former manse Fodderty Lodge built in 1730. About the neighbourhood
Fodderty Lodge, a former manse built in 1730, is a peaceful base from which to explore the Northern Highlands: Inverness, Loch Ness, the Black Isle, the Northern and Western coastlines and the NC500 are all within reach. For walkers, the Ross-shire Pathway network passes the front gate. For golf, there are excellent courses including Royal Dornoch, Strathpeffer, Fortrose and Nairn. Many opportunities for the nature lover, from dolphin sightings to birdwatching (red kites and buzzards are seen daily from the garden). 2 miles from both Dingwall (shops, petrol, Tesco) and the pretty Victorian Spa village of Strathpeffer with its Pavilion, a multi-purpose arts venue, and the Highland Museum of Childhood.
Getting around
With the North Coast 500 nearby, Fodderty Lodge is a perfect base to explore for drivers, motorcyclists, cyclists and walkers alike. Although we recommend your own transport for getting around, we have a local bus service to the nearest town Dingwall, 2 miles away. There you can catch a train to Kyle of Lochalsh (one of the world's most beautiful train journeys), Thurso and Wick in the north (for a ferry to Orkney – a full day visit is possible), as well as Inverness, Glasgow and Edinburgh. Bus services from Dingwall can get you to Ullapool for the ferry onto the Hebrides.
