Let me start by saying that if you are looking at Menorca you should have Cala'n Bosch at the forefront of your mind as a choice for resort. Once you've done that, if you are looking for an apartmemt with a good location, good level of services, offering good value for money and a great host then look no further than this apartment as I have no issues in recommending it.
Whilst I have split this review into positives and negatives, you chiefly only need to concern yourself with the positives. The negatives, of which there are few, are merely for completeness in order to give the owner constructive feedback and so other travelers are aware of all aspects of the apartment and resort. In this regard, I've endeavoured to provide some, hopefully, useful information on the resort as well as the apartment which will give you sufficient information when making your choice.
Positives
- Booking and check-in - Susana was very easy to deal with during the booking process and afterwards. Likewise, Carmen and David were great sorting the check-in.
- Location - the apartment is one of 32 apartments sharing communal facilities very central in the resort. You are approximately 100 yards from the harbour which has most of the resort's restaurants and bars. Despite this, there is no need to be worried about noise pollution from the bars. The resort, which I will speak more about in a moment, isn't your typical resort so wherever you are located you needn't worry about loud music into the small hours. The location is also situated close (I'd say 600 yards) to the nearest beach. This beach is great for all. It did get busy but, like the resort, maintained an excellent feel to it even at busy times. We found the water warm and clean with a gentle current. The sand was fine underfoot - even when walking into the sea. Talking of which, the seabed is so flat with a gentle gradient that it is a great location for families. Finally, there are lots of supermarkets within a short distance of the apartment.
- Resort - if you are looking for a quiet, spotless relaxing resort but with plenty of good restaurants then look no further. It is ideal for families, couples and sophisticated groups traveling together. With regard to families, there are a few small amusement establishments plus a larger park (Goody Goodys). These aren't intrusive to anyone not wanting to use such facilities. It is also worth noting that the resort is flat with good pavements and little in the way of motorised traffic. Whilst the resort does get busier in the late evening it is at a level whereby you can still walk around very comfortably. This makes it ideal for those either with limited movement or with pushchairs.
- Cleanliness - like the resort, the apartment is very clean. One or two elements of it could possibly do with updating but that is being very picky when you consider the price paid and all other aspects.
- Service - once in the apartment we found an excellent level of service provided by Susanna and David. We contacted Susanna to advise of a small issue with the air conditioning. David promptly visited and rectified it. Similarly, the sunbeds were replaced - per my note below - when we merely enqueried with Susanna. You really couldn't ask for more.
- Pool - the apartment benefits from a communal pool area which splits into three. We stayed at the apartment in August and found the pool to be very quiet allowing you to swim, relax or have family fun until your heart was content. The only days the pool became busier was on the weekends when family members of residents turned up. There was still a very good atmosphere. It is also worth noting that the water was always a nice temperature meaning little in the way of acclimatising was required.
- Apartment facilities - the apartment benefits from most of the appliances you use at home (TV - although only Spanish channels, refrigerator, washing machine etc). It also has lots of utensils and crockery for you to use. Finally, there are plenty of places to store things with many additional blankets on hand for you to use plus lots of cleaning products to cut out additional trips and costs at the supermarkets.
- Balcony - the apartment benefits from a nicely sized covered balcony. You have the ability to pull shutters across for added security, privacy and to aid cooling of the apartment.
Negatives
- Resort - whilst you will note my many positives about the resort, traveling as a family we felt the resort would have benefited from more outdoor play areas. We found one by chance but these facilities are more readily present in other resorts. It shouldn't be a showstopper for you though in booking accommodation within the resort as there are plenty of other activities to keep the little ones entertained.
- Pool - the pool is a little tired but perfectly safe to use. The only thing to be careful of is that there doesn't appear to be logic with the depths. As such, I'd recommend those with families to ensure they gain their bearings and be extra vigilant when using it. This to me however is standard practice as a parent anyway. We didn't have sun loungers for the first week of the stay as Susana's loungers had been commandeered by someone else at some point. Whilst we didn't complain about the lack of sun loungers (instead merely questioning their whereabouts) Susanna replaced them.
- Beds - whilst the mattresses are new, they are firm so might not be to everyone's liking.Air con in larger bedroom - the double bedroom doesn't have any air conditioning or ceiling fan (the twin room has the latter) making it a little more tricky to regulate the temperature. There was a dehumidifier unit but that wasn't very effective.
- Refrigerator - the fridge was very noisy throughout the stay. Whilst we didn't make use of the sofa bed, had we decided to we think our sleep would have been disturbed.
All in all, a lovely holiday had at the apartment. We'd welcome staying again should the chance arise.
