Cottage
A 19th century farm outbuilding Dunsey Beag has been fully insulated and refurbished with central heating and tiled flooring throughout, whilst retaining its original external stone features. It is 3 miles from Strangford and 2 minutes walk from a beautiful beach. Killard Nature Reserve is 15mins walk away. Careful planning went into designing a building which facilitates those using wheelchairs, prams and baby buggies in the form of a gradual ramp and broad internal doors.

The owners live in the adjacent house and will be available to provide local knowledge, advice and guidance on a range of issues such as good pubs, restaurants, where to buy a wide variety of fresh produce and fish (we regularly buy fish in nearby Ballyhornan East Coast Seafoods) and walks.

Myself and 3 friends enjoyed a lovely two nights relaxation and chat at the cottage. It was just lovely to sit and look at the lovely views over the sea. It was a lovely clear sky so we could see Isle of Man mountains clearly. Our hosts Anne and Mark were very friendly and helpful and the cottage was clean and had all the essentials we needed. The beds were comfortable and clean. I highly recommended a stay at 'Dunsay Beag' cottage. Although we were not that far from home,we could have been anywhere in world.

If your objective is to have a quiet time by the sea, this place is for you! If your objective is to have a "base" from which to explore the local and surrounding areas, this place is for you! If your objective is to rent, sight unseen, a wonderfully decorated, complete with all amenities, 2 bedroom "home" for 1 or more nights, with wonderful "owners" nearby (in case you need them but will not bother you at all if you don't), then this place is for you. Mark and Ann Campbell are, absolutely, the nicest people you would want to rent from. They are proud of their little cottage and well they should be! It is beautifully located, decorated (ask them about the photographs on the walls) and outfitted. Ask Mark about local "folklore" and the sinking of the American Georgetown Victory ship as it was returning British troops from Australia after the close of WWII (and one of his ancestors relationship with the story!) We were on a trip to London, Paris, Edinburgh, Dublin, and by the time we got to Northern Ireland, we were "plumb tuckered out" as we say here in the Ozark Mountains of Southwestern Missouri, USA. These people, Mark and Ann, provided this wonderful place, Dunsey Baeg Cottage, for what we, my wife and I, thought was an extremely reasonable price, in an absolutely perfect location. I "HIGHLY" recommend this place to you for your "home away from home!" Best wishes to you for your vacation, and if you choose this place, I'm sure you will agree you chose the best place you could imagine!

We have just returned from one night spent at Dunsey Beag. There were 6 of us staying here to attend a wedding nearby and the cottage was beautiful situated right on the water. The owners Mark and Ann were extremely friendly and helpful and couldn't do enough for us. I had even left one of my shirts behind and Mark posted this back to me free of charge so shows how they go above and beyond for their guests. I would recommend Dunsey Beag to anyone staying in the Strangford area as you won't be disappointed.

We stayed at Dunsey Beag for a long weekend and thought it was excellent. The cottage itself it just as good as it looks in the photos and was comfortable, warm, well equipped and pristinely clean. The location, near to a little beach on the lough, is lovely - we saw a seal! - and the gardens, shared with the B&B, are really nice. Plenty of places to sit out in the sunshine with a drink. Lots to do in the surrounding area - we visited Mount Stewart, Castle Ward, Newcastle and the Mourne Mountains, but just pottering along the coast roads and stopping off at little beaches was great. Ann and Mark were very welcoming and friendly, which made the stay even better.

A short drive from the picturesque harbour village Strangford Kilclief has a castle, historic church and is on the shore of Strangford lough . Dunsey Beag self catering cottage nestles in a beautiful mature garden with lots of walks along the shore right from the cottage, and a short drive from Castle Ward . The weather was beautiful felt like we'd dropped into a Hobbit or Game of Thrones setting , when we arrived the sea mist was lifting off the shore quite magic ethereal, soo peaceful the sounds of sea and birdsong and no traffic bliss.

About the neighbourhood
We live 3 miles south of Strangford along the shore road in the beautiful parish of Kilclief. Kilclief gets its name from Irish Cill Cleithe (Church of the Wattles). The nearby Church of Ireland is situated on the original ancient site. Whilst Kilclief is a wonderful rural location it also enjoys fantastic views of the 'West Bar' where the Irish Sea enters and leaves the Lough in the daily tides.
Getting around
Given the gentle gradients, this is an excellent location for hiking, rambling, and cycling. An excellent road network assists those who want to travel to Downpatrick, Newcastle and the Mourne Mountains, and further afield.Mourne Mountains, Newry https://goo.gl/search/Mourne+Mountains,+Newry
