Restored mill with wooden beams and working fireplaces just 10 kms south of Fontenay le Comte. We have a 3 key rating with Clévacances. All of our bedrooms have a private shower and toilet, hairdryer and tea and coffee facilities. All bed linen and towels are supplied. You may hire beach towels for a small supplement. Open all year. Animals allowed on request. Bike hire available at reasonable rates. We have 2 folding beds if required at 10 euros each per night to include continental breakfast and linen. Evening meals available. We have a 'family suite' which is 2 double bedrooms (one with a double bed and the other 2 singles) which communicate via the bathroom. This offer only valid in summer season Why go 'Self Catering' Let mum have a Holiday as well and let Val, your hostess, do all of your cooking (not to mention the washing up!)Our dinners are 2 courses with wine - 19 euros per person and 3 courses with wine - 21 euros per person. Childrens menu half price with a soft drink. Picnic boxes can be ordered 24 hours in advance. All of our food is homemade using local produce wherever possible. You will be asked what foods you don't or can't eat, so you are assured of a meal to your liking . Although our availability looks like we are empty, please note that we are practically full on other dates, so please contact us as soon as possible to enquire if we have a room. The area is ideal for exploring with lots to see and do. Why not visit the famous Abbey at Nieul sur L'Autize and the working water mill where démonstrations in bread making are given. Or take the children into Mervent and visit Parc Pierre Brune or perhaps the adventure park. The Marais Poitevin is only 8 kms where you will see lots of different wildlife. A bit further away (50kms) the famous port of La Rochelle where 'people watching' over a cup of coffee is a must. Or try Les Sables d'Olonne. You'll think you've taken a wrong turning and arrived in the South of France! Just 1 hour by car is the infamous Puy du Fou, a must for anyone to visit and if you are Lucky enough to be here during the nightly spectacles, boy oh boy, are you in for a treat! Its breathtaking! Or why not try Futuroscope. Its a fabulous day out. I could go on and on as I've lived here for 20 years, but why not come and visit and see it for yourself! (have I stolen that from a TV advert!) Family overnight

Our family of four stayed for one night. It was lovely. Val's homemade meals are to be recommended. The accommodation was v comfortable, private and in such a beautiful part of the world. V relaxing. We couldn't have asked for more.

Super experience

La Vallee is a super place to stay with good food and a great welcome. The building (an old mill) has been well converted to provide spacious accommodation with large private bathrooms.

About the neighbourhood
We are close to the famous abbaye at Nieul sur L'Autize. Just 10kms from the Abbaye at Maillezais; 10 kms from the Venise Vert where a punt on the river should not be missed. Our village also boasts its own man made beach with lake, which has been completely revamped. If you are Lucky enough to be here on July 14th they have the most spectacular fire works display absolutely free. Mervent forest is just 10 mins by car, as is Vouvant where there are many horse and walking trails. If you are into historic buildings you won't be disappointed - from houses to churches to abbays.
