Welcome to Pickles Cottage, a traditional stone-built millworker's end-terrace cottage in the delightful town of Barnoldswick in the historic West Riding of Yorkshire but part of the modern county of Lancashire. Pickles Cottage takes its name from the original owner, a member of the Pickles family who were heavily involved in the local textile industry as well as in engineering and other fields. Close to the the market town of Skipton, the Yorkshire Dales, Brontë Country, the Forest of Bowland, and with the Lake District within easy reach, Pickles Cottage offers everything you'll need to enjoy your holiday in comfort. The town centre is less than ten minutes' walk, and hosts some lovely cafés, pubs and independent shops, and a twice-weekly market in the square. We've set up Pickles Cottage to be a convenient and functional home from home. There's a fully-equipped kitchen with dishwasher, USB charging sockets and the all the usual items. The lounge diner has a comfortable sofa and armchair, TV with Freeview and many other channels (streamed via Amazon Fire TV Stick), USB charging sockets, a dining table and chairs, and a wood-burning stove. Children are welcome though the house is really set up for adult occupation . The stairs are very steep, so are unsuitable for very young children or those with mobility problems. High-speed fibre optic broadband wifi covers the whole house. The main bedroom is equipped with a UK king bed (US/Aus queensize) and there's a single in the second bedroom. The bathroom features a shower, WC and washbasin. The house is centrally heated, with hot water available on demand. There's also a wood-burning stove - BYO logs. Towels and bedding are provided, so there's no need for you to bring your own. The whole area is rich in industrial heritage, beautiful scenery and stunning walks as well as being an ideal base for exploring further afield with some lovely destinations being an easy day trip.More

We stayed for six nights in June in this tranquil cottage located in the picturesque town of Barnoldswick, located close to Skipton with its market, castle and railway and within easy driving distance of the beautiful countryside. And great pubs! Pickles itself boasts excellent accommodation,...More

About the neighbourhood
Barnoldswick is a former mill town with a high proportion of independent shops and cafés, all of which are within a short walk of Pickles. Within three minutes' walk there's a butcher's/deli, fish and chip shop, Italian restaurant, convenience store and a laundromat. There's a new Aldi about five minutes' drive from the house and market comes to the town square on Thursdays and Saturdays. Sadly, the mills are now gone but there's still a manufacturing presence in the town and much industrial heritage in the area. The area offers all kind of walking from gentle canalside walks to real mountain hikes in the Pennines - and everything in between. The town is on the edge of the Yorkshire Dales, so there's plenty to see not far away.
Getting around
A car is recommended but there are reasonable bus services connecting Barnoldswick with Skipton, the Dales, and the towns to the west leading to Manchester. The nearest station is Skipton. There are several car parks in Barnoldswick and all a free. Barnoldswick itself is a small town and easily traversed on foot. However, it is far from flat!
