Orgiva, Province of Granada, Andalucia
La Escañuela is located in Granada in the Alpujarras. The house sits in 'La Ruta de los Olivos Centenarios' (an ancient pathway of century-old olive trees), surrounded by cultivated farmland.
From the cortijo you can enjoy views of Orgiva, Veleta and Mulhacén peaks (the highest in the Iberian peninsula), the Sierra Lújar, Contraviesa and Guadalfeo River Valley. And it's only 20 minuts away from the beaches of Motril or Salobreña.

The land has more than 4.800 square meters (5.249 sq yards) and has mainly olive and avocado trees, but also almonds, oranges and many other kind of trees and plants. It has a terrace of 100 m2 (1.076 sq feet).

The house has 2 double bedrooms (1 doubled bed + 2 single beds), kitchen-living room with bed-sofa and bathroom. Kitchen appliances (microwave, refrigerator, washing machine) and TV. To...

Reviewed 27 July 2015 for a stay in June 2015

Wow, the Cortijo La Escanuela is a special place. I spent several days here in June and had an incredible experience. The house is very well maintained, I found everything clean, organized, and working well. The pool is a life saver and is perfect for cooling off after a day of exploring the nearby towns, beaches, or mountains (breathtaking views of the Alpujarras) which are all within a short drive. The views over the cortijo-filled valley outside of the home is beautiful, and provides a perfect setting to watch the sunset. The owner of La Escanuela is an extremely fun, friendly, and kind woman who made my stay more enjoyable just by talking to me- she has created a great location for a relaxing vacationthat is suitable for families, couples, or groups of friends to enjoy. This place has something for everyone and if you stay here you will surely enjoy your visit.

A few steps outside the comfortable and inviting cottage, we were transported to another world of spectacular vistas and the sounds of a bucolic life far from the cities and crowds. The avocados from the trees on the property were an extra treat. Following an afternoon relaxing in hammocks on the patio, we explored the charming town of Orgiva and its many restaurants, especially Flor de Limonero. Cortijo la Escanuela is a great escape and a found treasure.

About the neighbourhood
The Alpujarra is the area in Andalucia, Spain, between the Sierra Nevada and the Mediterranean. It extends over two provinces, Granada and Almeria; it is sometimes referred to in the plural as 'Las Alpujarras'. There are several interpretations of this Arabic name: the most convincing is that it derives from al-bugsharra, meaning something like 'sierra of pastures'.
The Sierra Nevada runs west-to-east for about 80 km. It includes the two highest mountains in Spain: the Mulhacen at 3479 m. and the Veleta, just a little lower. As the name implies, it is covered with snow in winter. The snow-melt in the spring and summer allows the southern slopes of the Sierra to remain green and fertile throughout the year, despite the heat of the summer sun. Water emerges from innumerable...
