Le Rouquet is in the old part of Castelnaud la Chapelle. The picturesque village runs down the hillside from the medieval castle to the River Dordogne and the property lies midway between the two. It is built in the local style of honey coloured stone, has a sunny South facing aspect and wonderful views across the valley from the windows and the terrace. Le Rouquet has been renovated to form two independant holiday gites which can be rented separately or together at a discount. The Balcony apartment sleeps up to 4 people in comfort.  It consists of a modern bright fully fitted kitchen (including oven, ceramic hob, microwave, dishwasher, fridge with freezer compartment, toaster and kettle) and has a log burning stove making Spring and Autumn holidays a delight.  There is plenty of room for the large dining table in the kitchen but on warm sunny days you will probably choose to eat outside on the sunny balcony which overlooks the valley and church below.  The balcony is extremely convenient as it is directly outside the kitchen and there is a barbeque here for your use. From the kitchen a few steps lead down to the main bedroom which is beamed and has lovely local stone features with views across the valley through the full height opening window.  There is a comfortable double bed and there is a walk-in wardrobe for clothes.  The bright modern bathroom is fully tiled and has a large shower and heated towel rail which ensures that it is always comfortably warm and towels are always dry. Stairs from the kitchen lead up to the pretty bedroom which has twin beds and is heavily beamed with polished chestnut flooring. There is a wardrobe and chest of drawers for clothes. Le Rouquet is an ideal base for those wishing to explore this picturesque area of medieval villages and castles, markets and prehistoric sites. There are wonderful well marked walks from the doorstep through the unspoilt countryside. The village has a range of shops, cafes and restaurants all within a few minutes walking distance of the apartment. Tourist License / Licencia de turismo N °: N/AMore

I have stayed here 3 times, I love the gite and I love the area. So much to do in the area, outside of staying around the gite and enjoying the balloons sailing right overhead and enjoying the view from the balcony. Its really lovely!

We had a completely wonderful stay at Le Rouquet. What a fabulous place. My mum and I stayed in the lovely balcony apartment, which has been tastefully and thoughtfully equipped with everything we needed for a comfortable and relaxing stay. The views are to die for. We spent many an hour just soaking up the atmosphere, listening to the night time sounds of the forest, the dongs of the daytime bells, and watching the swallows duck and dive around our little piece of Castelnaud. An ancient world of hidden caves and forgotten ways. We were welcomed into the Dordogne by all we met and all we saw. We shall return.

Appartement très agréable, bien équipé -une petite banquette serait bienvenue...- et très propre, dans un village magnifique. La vue depuis la terrasse est superbe et nous avons pu profiter du jardin en toute quiétude.

I shared this apartment with a friend, and was very impressed. The apartment balcony has great views over the countryside and is ideal for eating outside using the BBQ. The kitchen is well equipped and the loft bedroom with twin beds has a floor stand fan for cooling at night. The car park in the church square is only 2 minutes walk. We were using bicycles ( make sure they are electric !!. ). The upper village where the apartment is located shut down totally after the castle closed at 7pm and you are left in quiet solitude which has atmosphere. All facilities such as the butcher, baker ( no candlestick maker ) and restaurant are to be found at river level next to the main bridge. There is a general store which is pricey. Canoe hire can be done at the bridge and bike hire is close by as well. I would definitely recommend the apartment and would recommend car hire as well.

If you are looking for a fantastic location to explore the Perigord Noir region or want to spend lazy days in the heart of a Medieval village then you have found the right place! La Rouquet`s balcony apartment is nestled below the Castel looking towards the chapel area with views of the valley below and woodland. The property doesnt feel like an apartment as not all rooms are on one floor but arranged across two with the lounge/sleeping area on a different level to the kitchen and shower room with the loft bedroom accessible by a small staircase in the kitchen. The well equipped, spacious and modern kitchen is ideal for more than two people which opens onto the balcony area complete with table and chairs and a parasol. The owners provided a shared untility area near the garden apartment which also stored the sunbeds. This place was a joy to wake up in each morning and a welcoming place to relax in after our various trips around the region. Hibiscus and roses adorn the steps and stone balcony which never seemed to stop flowering and each morning the hot air balloons drift right over head which we enjoyed watching from the balcony. We would definitely stay here again and have recommended it to friends and family.

This was the most beautifully furnished and homely rental house that we have stayed in. From the glorious large kitchen, the comfortable beds, the relaxing lounge and the tranquil garden. The area was also fantastic, slightly touristy but not too much. Near to everything that you could wish for but tranquil when you wanted to stay local. Beware the bells! Very charming and loud! Luckily, they only rang between 7am and 10pm. We actually loved hearing them, it added to the ambience of the village. We would definitely rent here again, next time the garden apartment.

My husband and I spent a week in this apartment in the village of Castelnaud-la-Chapelle above the beautiful Dordogne River. We looked up to the 13th century castle and down across ancient rooftops and fields, absolutely magic. The photos on the website showed it exactly as we found it, so we were not disappointed. We enjoyed the absence of television as it was a good chance to catch up with reading and exploring the local area. As well as our own reading material we made use of some of the books in the apartment. There was free wifi in the cafe-bar down by the river. The apartment was fully self-contained and was well-equipped. Booking and payment was accomplished smoothly and we were given good instructions as to how to get there as well as plenty of local information about walks, markets and for every eventuality. Castelnaud has a few shops down by the river as well as restaurants and tourist shops at the top near the castle. Walking to both of these required steep walks up or down on ancient cobbled paths, great to maintain fitness!

We enjoyed our week in the picturesque medieval village of Castelnaud. The location was perfect as it was within a short drive of all the major attractions of the dorgogne - most 15 to 30 mins. A few minutes walk uphill from the apartment is the medieval castle of Castelnaud (a must!) and also cafes, gift shops and restaurants. A steep cobblestone footpath behind the church takes you down to the bottom of the village on the bank of the Dordogne river (3 minutes walk) where you'll find the village square with café, restaurant, village shop, bakery, post office and canoe hire. Supermarkets are in nearby villages. The apartment is beautiful - extremely clean! Bathroom has walk-in shower, basin, toilet, good lighting, exhaust fan and heated towel rail. Kitchen is fully equipped including dish washer. Washing machine on lower level to share with garden apartment. The twin beds in the loft bedroom are quite firm. There is a pedestal fan which we used every night as the weather was very hot while we were there. The terrace leads off the kitchen and has a BBQ, table and chairs and umbrella. It overlooks part of the valley and the medieval village towards the church and was perfect for breakfast and glass of wine in the evenings. We didn't get used to the bells but we did laugh about them - they chime every hour from 7am until 10 pm. There is no TV, DVD player or stereo, only a small CD player/radio in the kitchen so bring some books to read in the evenings. There are some books and games there - scrabble, monopoly etc. We sat on the terrace every evening watching the hot air balloons drifting over - amazing! Free parking at the church. We suggest you park near the church and carry luggage up as it is very difficult to turn around at the house. Overall a beautiful, relaxing place to stay!

We stayed here at the end of the season, although it was cold outside it was very cosy snuggling up to the log burner, logs provided by the owners. The views from the apartment were absolutely stunning, amazing Autumn colours. A trip down to the first class bakers each morning for bread & croissants. Evening meals could be taken at one of the two restaurants in the square reducing the need to drive. The apartment is very well equipped and spotlessly clean. We intend to return in the summer.
