We would love to welcome you to our beautiful, modern self catering holiday home a stone's throw away from the River Coquet in the traditional Village of Rothbury. Built of natural sandstone by Lord Armstrong of the famous Cragside Estates in the 1870's, 'Model Buildings' features in the Village Trail as modern workers housing of it's time! The property is deceptively spacious and comprises of a large entrance hallway with a tiled floor, perfect for those muddy walking boots or towelling down the dog after a long walk. The fitted Kitchen is light and airy with gas hob and electric oven, dishwasher, microwave and fridge freezer. We have used River Neuk as our holiday home for years so you can imagine there is absolutely everything you could possibly need in the way of equipment, crockery ...We would love to welcome you to our beautiful, modern self catering holiday home a stone's throw away from the River Coquet in the traditional Village of Rothbury. We have used River Neuk as our holiday home for years so you can imagine there is absolutely everything you could possibly need in the way of equipment, crockery and cutlery. The large lounge/diner comfortably seats four people and comes with a range of entertainment including high speed Wifi internet, a 32' LCD TV, DVD Player, Radio System, Wii games console and a range of books, board games and DVDs! So if the weather's bad or just want to relax in comfort, we've tried to provide everything for you. River Neuk sleeps up to four people with a comfortable double bedroom with wardrobe, large chest of drawers and bed side tables so there's plenty of storage. The second bedroom is a twin with a large day bed, wardrobe and bedside tables. Finally there is a family bathroom with a bath with shower over, WC, handbasin and also a washer/dryer. Although Model Buildings is a two storey historic property the accommodation is on one level making the Cottage ideal for people with limited mobility (there are two small steps to enter the property). Outside there is a small private courtyard with storage shed where you can safely store cycles, or suitcases etc. We have also provided a trolley to help with unloading the car on arrival and bringing your belongings inside. At the back of the Cottage is a shared outdoor space with planters, seating and washing lines. The Coquet riverbank is just yards from the door with a wonderful play area for the children (slides, climbing frames etc) and a football area. It's all just a few seconds walk without having to cross any roads making it ideal for young families. We're also pet friendly and provide as standard feeding bowls, a spare lead (in case you forget when packing!) and dog towels. We are happy to accept one well behaved dog at this property and there is a pet fee payable. Please enquire if you have more than one dog and let us know the breed and we still may accept your booking. We're very proud of our Cottage and we love to spoil everyone who stays with a lovely welcome basket of local produce, teas and coffee. The picturesque Village of Rothbury has excellent shops, restaurants and amenities and is located on the edge of the Northumberland National Park, providing an ideal base to explore rural Northumberland. There are a range of amenities including local shops, post office, cafés, country pubs and restaurants are all within easy walking distance of the property. There are numerous local tourist attractions, riverside walks and scenic countryside within the immediate vicinity. Don't forget to bring some bread along to feed the ducks by the river! The stunning coastline of Northumberland is just a short distance away. River Neuk is the ideal base to explore all that Northumberland has to offer, from it's famous castles and award-winning beaches to walks, cycling, golf, water sports and fishing or one of the county's many attractions.More

The location, decor, furnishing and supply of essentials to this property were all first rate. The best holiday cottage we have visited to date.

We found the River Neuk a lovely place to stay in the heart of Rothbury last year and decided to book again this year. It’s a real home from home, is spotlessly clean and has well equipped kitchen. The cottage which is lovely and clearly cared for is on one ground floor level. We felt there was plenty of space for the 3 of us in the property with a modern spacious bathroom (with washing machine if you need it). The owner left a generous welcome hamper, with tea and coffee provided and the cottage is helpfully well stocked with washing up liquid, dishwasher tabs etc. There’s nothing really to fault and we’d happily stay here again. We really like Rothbury as a base. There’s enough places to eat and drink - The Turks Head, Newcastle House and La Mensa (went twice in our week).

We had a wonderful week staying at River Neuk to see in the New Year! River Neuk is a delightful ground floor cottage located in the Model Buildings – a beautiful row of stone cottages. It is furnished to a really high standard and provided the perfect accommodation for our family of 4 and Cookie the dog! The cottage was spotlessly clean, warm and cosy, and was equipped with absolutely everything we needed – everything has been thought of by Karen the owner. On arrival we were greeted with a lovely welcome basket with a great selection of goodies including Prosecco, Mince Pies, jam and biscuits; and essentials including cereal, tea, coffee and milk. The cottage was also beautifully decorated for the festive season – a lovely touch which made us immediately feel at home. Karen was brilliant in communicating information from the time of booking through to providing arrival information and she has provided a really useful folder full of local information in the cottage. There’s also a selection of local walks & local history books to help you get to know the area. This was our first time to Northumberland and we instantly fell in love with the area. The scenery is outstanding and during the week we visited Alnwick, Bamburgh, Alnmouth, Cragside, Warkworth, Amble, and enjoyed lots of runs and walks from the cottage around the Simonside Hills. River Neuk and Rothbury provide a perfect base for exploring the area. As a bonus the weather was also very kind to us!  The cottage is in a really quiet position along a pedestrianised path tucked away behind the church. Although there isn’t private parking we didn’t find this an issue at all as we were always able to find space to park near to the cottage and if needed there was a trolley to help transporting luggage to and from the car. Rothbury is a lovely small town with some nice pubs (we sampled the Newcastle House and The Queens Head) and independent shops and we found the nearby Co-Op really handy for grabbing bits when needed. The fish and chip shop is also recommended! The River Coquet runs very close to the cottage with a path that runs alongside it that leads towards the Simonside Hills. Everybody we met in Rothbury was really friendly and welcoming and we enjoyed seeing in the New Year beside the Armstrong Cross with the Church bells ringing out sharing a dram of whiskey with a lovely local couple who we got chatting to! Thank you for providing us with a wonderful holiday! We can't wait to return to discover more of this beautiful area!

Rothbury is an attractive town, and a good centre for historic sites, Alnwick with its Castle and Gardens, and the Northumberland Coast. River Neuk is warm and very well furnished, and Karen's information folder about the area, welcome basket and flowers were much appreciated. We hope to come again to enjoy the countyside in a different season.

I was delighted with our stay at River Neuk. The house was spotless and had everything we needed for our break in Northumberland. We would happily have stayed for another week in such a lovely place. Rothbury itself is a really pretty town with everything you need, and the house is right in the centre, tucked away off the Main Street. We couldn’t have asked for a better base for exploring beautiful Northumberland.

What a lovely find. The cottage is delightful. Spacious, comfortable and spotlessly clean. The owner has gone out of their way to ensure that every need has been catered for. I cannot think of one thing I could complain about - that is recommendation enough in itself! Highly recommended.

Clean and well equipped, comprehensive information and a welcome hamper on arrival to get your stay off to a relaxing start. Charming quiet riverside and very convenient location in the centre of Rothbury, itself a good place to stay in Northumbria.

About the neighbourhood
Known locally as the Capital of Coquetdale, the traditional Northumbrian village of Rothbury is built on a sandstone hillside. It offers an excellent range of shops, with many art galleries, tea rooms, cafes and pubs. It makes a very convenient base for fishing and for walking into the Northumberland National Park and Simonside, as well as offering less strenuous riverside walks. Rothbury lies near the centre of rural Northumberland, 12 miles from Alnwick, 15 miles from Morpeth and 29 miles from Newcastle upon Tyne. As such it has been a local centre since the 13th century and at various times had a castle, a market and magistrate's court. Nearby Cragside House and Gardens, home to Lord Armstrong is perhaps the most famous attraction in the area. Attractions and Things To Do in Rothbury...
