We have just spent a very relaxing week in La Bergerie. This is a pretty little cottage in the country next to the owners house, but set apart and secluded. Sylvie and Pascal and their family were charming and helpful hosts, even doing some washing and providing logs when we ran out. Set on a hillside opposite Le Bar Sur Loup it is peaceful and relaxing with wonderful views across the gorge to the mountains beyond. There are plenty of good walks in the area, particularly up to Gourdon, which we did and caught a little bus back for 1 Euro! If you want to visit the Côte d'Azur it's only 30 minutes away. Thanks Sylvie and Pascal for a lovely week.

My husband and I stayed at La Bergerie for 2 weeks. We normally travel around when on holiday, so it was a new experience for us to spend 2 whole weeks in the same place. We couldn't have picked a better place either. We loved every second of our holiday and the cottage was perfect. It had everything you could possible want or need. Sylvie and Pascal are perfect hosts and couldn't have been kinder. We especially loved the view, which on an evening, having dinner on the terrace overlooking the twinkling lights of Le Bar Sur Loup, was just magical! The pool was fantastic, just the right size and temperature (for being unheated, was surprisingly warm). There is a great supermarket (Casino) about 10 mins drive away which has the most surprising counters, from fish and meat, to bakery products to die for! We were sad to leave and would go back in a heartbeat.

This place had everything we needed for a lovely, relaxed holiday with two children under seven, including a great feeling of freedom and space, and wonderful hosts in Pascal and Silvie: friendly, unpretentious, helpful whenever we needed them, but never intrusive. After a long day's train travel from the UK, and a battle to get our hire car in Cannes on the last day of the film festival, we arrived late evening, exhausted and hungry, and were delighted when Silvie offered to order a pizza for us and then to shop for our breakfast first thing the next day. Our gorgeous little 'cabin' had lots of quirky rustic charm and everything we needed. It was simply, but tastefully decorated with its own private terrace, scented with jasmine, with a wonderful rambling rose framing our view of the mountain peak of Bar-sur-Loup village off in the distance. Beyond the terrace, the 'shared' gardens featured a fabulous network of tree-platforms linked with rope bridges and rigging, that was surprisingly safe and child-friendly (already carefully road-tested by the owner's own children). A real treat for our kids who were 7 and 4, who needed very little help or 'watching' once we'd done an initial parental 'risk assessment' : the whole thing was so cleverly designed. The pool area was lovely. We seemed to have it to ourselves whenever we wanted to use it, and the children thought the pool-cleaning robot was hysterical. All in all this seemed very good value, and we were pleased to be in such a tranquil, rural setting, away from the crush and craziness of the coast, but within easy reach of the seaside (20 mins or so) when we wanted to be.
