This cottage came highly recommended from friends who had stayed the previous year and it did not disappoint in any way whatsoever. There was a lovely warm welcome from our hosts in addition to the welcome hamper, the excellent facilities and an outstanding location with wonderful views. The immediate and surrounding area is a walkers paradise with plenty of pubs and restaurants not far away. We will be returning in the not too distant future .

We wanted a comfortable cottage in the lovely Lancashire countryside. We found it! The welcome was fantastic and the information provided made everything so easy. The cottage is delightful and the gardens are beautiful. Everything we needed was there and more...we were welcomed with a whole range of goodies to eat and drink. The cottage is extremely clean and very well cared for. Brenda and Richard are wonderful hosts and we will certainly return. We walked by the Hodder, around Stonyhurst, up Pendle Hill and in the Forest of Bowland. Beautiful walks.

Although tucked away in lovely rolling countryside, Alden Cottage was quite easy to find and handy for exploring the beautiful Lancashire area of the Forest of Bowland. When not out sampling the delights of the area, the cottage, with it's lovely, colourful gardens provided a very pleasant and restful place to chill out with a drink and a book. Everything had been provided for the visitor's comfort by the charming owners, Brenda and Richard. Lucy the lovely Golden Retriever provided further friendly welcome. Finally, I think it would be remiss not to mention how quiet the surroundings are and also, what a bonus the very dark night sky is. I haven't seen a star-filled sky like that in quite a while.

It was a great pleasure to meet you both and we’re glad you enjoyed chilling out at the cottage and looking at the night sky. If you had stayed the previous week, you would have been able to see the International Space Station passing overhead. Maybe next time - hope to welcome you back soon.

What a gem tucked away in the lush Lancashire countryside, with a fantastic outlook to a stunning garden with sheep grazing in the fields beyond. Just the place to escape to after Covid 19 lockdown. The cosy cottage was one of the best equipped we have stayed in and so comfortable. Although very rural, it’s close enough to Clitheroe and other villages with places to eat. Lots of lovely walks on the doorstep. Brenda and Richard had gone to great lengths to provide a safe and relaxing environment. Social distancing sadly meant we didn’t get to know our hosts or their gorgeous dog as well as we would have normally.

This self catering cottage is fitted out to a very high standard and is situated in a beautiful part of Lancashire. There are great walks to be had along the River Ribble and the River Hodder as well as Pendle Hill and so much more. Great gastro pubs and restaurants too especially the Freemasons Arms near Whalley, the Assheton Arms at Downham and the Shireburn Arms at Hurst Green. Holmes Mill in Clitheroe is a must for foodies.

This is a lovely cottage with all the amenities you could need for a relaxed holiday. The area is superb and lots of villages can be reached easily by car where there are varied meals available. The owners were away while we stayed but we were greeted by Pam (who also helped us with the WiFi) and shown around. There was a welcome basket which was appreciated after a long drive as it included milk, butter, bread rolls, cheese and other food stuff. Even a bottle of wine. Everything was comfortable and well kept. We would definitely stay again, hopefully in the not too distant future, and would recommend it to anyone thinking of staying.

Allden Cottage was a home from home with everything and more to make a self catering holiday special. We sought the peace and beauty of the Bowland, and we were immersed in it straight away with the location of the cottage. Good access to the countryside, yet close enough to some excellent pubs for food etc. Brenda and Richard went the extra mile when the spa bath pump failed, they had it replaced and working within 24 hours. And such a friendly welcome too! Thank you. We will be back and recommend it most highly.

The cottage is set in beautiful gardens to the front and rear. We had some lovely weather so were able to enjoy an evening drink on the terrace. Brenda and Richard live on site and were friendly, helpful, good company but never intrusive. We were left a generous welcome pack and a very thoughtful card, cake and wine contributing to my bithday celebration over the weekend. The cottage is spotless with every possible comfort. The blissful position of the cottage is to fall in love with and yet, on the doorstep are also very atractive places to eat and drink. The landscape is breathtaking. So, as many other visitors do, we will definitely be returning to Alden Cottage. .

This quaint, well appointed and comfortable pretty cottage offers peaceful escape any season of the year. Convenient for Bowland fells and Ribble valley with a good selection of villages, pubs and walks, it has good access for Whalley and Clitheroe. The warm welcome from friendly owners, Brenda, Richard and Lucy the dog who live in the adjoining cottage has prompted us to return frequently. This was our fifteenth stay and it is always special.

About the neighbourhood
Alden Cottage is situated in the beautiful Ribble Valley as well as being within the Forest of Bowland. There are plenty of fabulous countryside walks to enjoy right from our front door including the well-known Tolkien Trail and our own favourite walk (and also that of our golden retriever Lucy) which wends its way through the wood down to the grassy banks of the River Hodder. Despite being in the country, we are only 3 to 4 miles away from the market town of Clitheroe with its wealth of shops, cafes and restaurants.
Getting around
You really need a car at your disposal during your stay at Alden Cottage. The nearest bus route is in the village of Hurst Green (3 miles) and the nearest train stations are Clitheroe (4 miles) and Whalley (5 miles).
