We really enjoyed our 4 night stay at this cottage. While it has all the peace and quiet associated with a rural location, it is also convenient to Josselin and ideal for exploring the surrounding area. The cottage is well equipped and has a good...More

We enjoyed a few days in stunning Brittany. The accommodation is in good condition and comfortable. It's a pleasant one mile walk into Josselin, good road links for exploring the area and further afield. We are happy to recommend Le Petit Maineau

Interaction with guests
The area is ideal for walkers, cyclists, bikers and horse riders. For keen walkers/cyclists it is ideal to plan larger hikes using local maps which the owner can advise - they differ from UK ordnance survey and take a bit of getting used. Previous cycling parties have used the Nantes Brest Canal as a navigational guide as there is a very good path along the entire route of the canal. For more moderate walkers such as the owners there are marked circular routes from various locations in the region - approx 100. You can request suggestions for walks from the owners - just give an idea of distance. There are several circular walks of 4 to 9 km. The owners have also noted places to walk for people with wheelchairs and limited mobility.

About the neighbourhood
Ploermel and Pontivy also have interesting attractions and a great variety of shops.Ten minutes drive from the house is the Lac au Duc which is a large lake with man made beaches, water activities, walks and also a golf course. This is very popular for families with younger children as the water tends to be warmer than the sea and there are no big waves. There are walks around the house and it is easy to easily walk down to the canal and into Josselin. I have made a PDF describing different local walks and there are local maps in the house for those wanting to venture further on foot. It is possible to hire bikes in Josselin in the main season and to hire a boat for the canal. We often have return visitors who are cyclists as they have unexplored places they planned on visiting but did no...
Getting around
We have had several guests who have arrived with their bikes and used public transport. Personally we think a car is recommended. Depending on personal mobility Josselin is approx 1km from the house and there are several routes to walk into town including via the canal. Bikes can be hired in Josselin in the main season and it is possible to hire boats.Parking is not a problem in any of the local towns and is usually free. We have had several cycling groups who have enjoyed the quiet roads and easy access generally. Cycling is a big pass time in France so cyclists are well catered for. There are riding centres in the area and the owner would recommend the riding centre in Brociliande to explore the forest on horseback.
