Cottage
Brynhyfryd Cottage is situated in a very quiet location on the outskirts of Caio village, approximately 7 miles from the university town of Lampeter and just half a mile from the famous Dolaucothi Goldmine in nearby Pumpsaint..The coastal towns of Aberaeron and Newquay on the beautiful West Wales Coast are just a half hour drive away. Brynhyfryd Cottage is full of the quaint rural charm of a traditional Welsh cottage as well as being deceptively spacious. The cottage dates back to the early 1800s and was originally built for a farm worker and his family. The owners have taken great care to renovate the cottage to a very high standard by retaining many period features such as beams and original fireplace with bread oven, in keeping with it's age and history, giving it bags of charm. The ground floor is open-plan with comfortable sofa and chairs and dining area set around the cosy wood burning stove with a good supply of kiln-dried logs provided. The characterful kitchen is extremely well-equipped and the downstairs shower room is spacious and stylish, next to which is a large storage cupboard. Upstairs there is another storage cupboard on the landing with hanging space and the two attic bedrooms both have dormer windows. Please note that due to the historic nature of the cottage, ceiling heights in both bedrooms are a little low in places. Outside there is a small private cottage-style garden which is totally enclosed making it pet-safe, patio and barbecue areas, garden furniture, with views of the surrounding countryside, big skies and spectacular sunsets. The cottage is pet-friendly and the owners are happy for up to 2 dogs to stay. Please note that we do not allow dogs on furniture or upstairs in the bedrooms. We also ask that guests do not leave their pets unattended in the property when they go out. There are plenty of walks close by. All bed linen and towels are provided as well as a welcome pack of basic provisions, together with bathroom and kitchen sundries including Welsh hand-made soap. A complimentary hamper of Welsh goodies is also provided. There is an award-winning pub/restaurant in the nearby village of Pumsaint which is about one mile from the cottage.A list of recommended places to eat can be found in the Information Book. Carmarthenshire and it's neighbouring county of Ceredigion have a multitude of visitor attractions to suit all tastes with breathtaking scenery and spectacular coastlines to explore. More

This is a stunning little cottage in a lovely rural area. The cottage is beautifully presented with an authentic feel but everything you would want for amenities. The hosts have put lovely extra touches to make it stand out like welsh treats and a real glass bottle of milk. We have two huskies that stayed with us and can say the cottage and surrounding area was dog friendly! The place was clean and homely and we would definitely like to return and would highly recommend. Thanks!

A perfect peaceful retreat. The cottage was well equipped and situated in lovely tranquil surroundings. An enclosed garden a bonus for children and pets. The owners Liz and John were friendly and helpful. A big thanks for their hospitality. I would highly recommend this property to anyone wishing to 'Get away from it all', though there were plenty of places of interest and beauty within short driving distances.

Myself and my friend stayed here for a long weekend ("get away from it all!") break from 12th - 15th January 2018. The hosts were so welcoming and the location is wonderfully peaceful. The nicely sized enclosed garden was perfect for dog (Molly). We both thought the most surprising thing was the amount of inclusive items in the deal, even down to the dog poo bags! Anyway, other self catering properties that we have stayed in certainly have not included every item you can think of for cleaning (even down to the bleach!), showering, (even down to the shower gel and shampoo!), handwash, etc etc. Items in the cupboard included; tea, coffee (including the choice of instant coffee or ground, complete with cafetiere) , salt, pepper, gravy granuals, even cooking oil! All in all, a lovely stay which we would certainly consider returning. Lovely walks on the doorstep and the beaches within a 50 minute drive, returning to a peace haven at the end of the day! Lovely! thank you both for your wonderful hospitality! :-)

We were very pleased on arriving at the cottage which is situated on a quiet country lane to fine all our needs would be covered. This is the first time for a number of years of going self catering. The cottage sleeps up to 6 people but there was only the two of us and it suited our needs. There was a warm welcome from both Liz and John who greeted us and showed us the cottage and explained where the nearest shop, pub and restaurant were. We decided to cook for ourselves and eat in and had brought basis with us for cooking. The kitchen was well furnished with pots and pans all that we needed. The location was central to the different places we had looked at visiting. The weather was good while we were there but one day/night was cold wet and damp but with the log burning laid ready we soon had a warm and cosy environment. The flowers, fruit bowl, milk, Welsh cakes were all a very welcome gift on arrival - and Liz and John are very knowledgeable about places to visit too. Thank you both for a great week in Mid Wales.

This delightful cottage provided the perfect escape to the country we needed. Perfect location, perfect surroundings and very welcoming and friendly owners who lived next door an were on hand to answer every question and more! The local pub provided great food and refreshment and local forest provided idillic walks for us and the dog. Can't wait to find time to stay again and completely relax and forget the rest of the world again

Our holiday cottage was so well presented and equipped. Nothing was too much trouble and we had a lovely holiday. So many lovely places to visit. The area is a walkers paradise, our dogs had a wonderful time and the secure garden was extremely useful for us.

About the neighbourhood
The world renowned Dolaucothi Roman Goldmines are within approximately one mile of the cottage and well worth a visit. There are several good pubs with eating facilities within a 5 mile radius of the cottage and the award-winning Dolaucothi Arms in nearby Pumsaint is about a mile from the cottage, serves great home-cooked food and welcomes well-behaved dogs. There is a wealth of country walks in the area including nearby Caio and Brechfa Forests ideal for walkers, cyclists and horse riders. There are numerous castles such as Carreg Cennen and Dinefwr as well the Botanic Gardens of Wales and Aberglasney Gardens together with spectacular coastal locations such as Aberaeron and New Quay within a half hour drive from the cottage.
Getting around
As this is a rural area, a car is the best way for getting about. The nearest main line station is at Llanwrda about 7 miles from Brynhyfryd Cottage which runs through to Swansea in one direction and Shrewsbury in the other (the Heart of Wales line)..There is a bus service to Lampeter and Carmarthen and plenty of taxi services in the area but a car is highly recommended.
