Due to government restrictions from 12th April we could only go to self catering accommodation so we chose this cottage for 4 nights. We always stay in 4/5* hotels so we were dreading the cottage but it was better than staying in a house we have not left for months! Well, we were pleasantly surprised. It was 4* hotel equivalent, fresh hotel quality linen, everything was renovated but retained plenty of character. The lady running it was very friendly and left fresh eggs and milk. It was very clean everywhere, felt covid safe. The market town of Middleton in Teesdale is beautiful with plenty of stunning walks, good pubs, co-op - everything easily accessible from the cottage by foot. It is authentic place where real farmers live, people are super friendly and willing to take time to help and strike the conversation. The only thing is that master bedroom window does not open, neither does the living room one and ventilation in covid times is important so we had front door open and bathroom window open to get some fresh air to these areas.
Overall it is great quality accomodation in a beautiful area and we would recommend to others as well as happy to return.
