The Old Vicar's House is a beautifully restored stone house with lots of character (the house suffered bomb damage in WW1 but thankfully was rebuilt in 1928). It is located in Podmelec, a traditional but vibrant village with very friendly neighbours. It is equidistant to both Most na Soci and Tolmin via safe main roads and tourist routes. It is a perfect location for those looking for a quiet base with all the mod cons. The accommodation would suit singles, couples, or families with 1 child. For 2019, the house can accommodate up to 4 persons. There is a large balcony to the front for al-fresco dining or sunbathing and a side terrace adjacent to the basement utility / play room.

A very relaxing time in a lovely refurbished period house in a quiet village setting.
We were greeted by the owner who made us very welcome and explained how everything worked. Whilst the house is in the centre of the village, we weren't troubled at all by noise either in the day or in the evening, helped with we think by the thickness of the old stone walls. The local Slovenes we spoke were fantastic and we found ourself most nights enjoying a meal and glass of wine on the balcony. The house has a lot of character and original features, although we didn't need to use the wood burner in the lounge! The kitchen has everything you need, with a dishwasher and large fridge. We would have no hesitation in recommending to others.

About the neighbourhood
The location of Podmelec and the surrounding areas can only be described as magical, unspoilt and pristine. Wildlife and a variety of outdoor attractions and activities are abundant close by, in particular; paragliding, cycling, mountain biking, trekking, bird watching and hunting. The house lies at 305m above sea level in the foothills of the Julian Alps. The village itself is situated above the Baca River, an established and popular fly fishing destination (the Idrijca and Soca rivers are also close by). The Slap Sopota waterfall (66m) is within walking distance of the village. The edge of the Triglav National Park can be reached within a 15 minute drive time. Convenience stores and shops are available close by in both Tolmin and Most na Soci.

From Trieste Airport; Leaving the airport, turn left on Via Aquileia, at the next roundabout take 3rd exit, at the following roundabout, take 2nd exit onto Svincolo Redipuglia toward Venezia / Udine / A4, go through the toll booth, follow signs for: Venezia / Udine / A4 / A23. Merge onto E70 / A4 / Autostrada della Serenissima / Autostrada Torino-Trieste heading west. At the exit Svincolo Villesse, take slip road right for Raccordo autostradale Villesse-Gorizia towards Villesse / Gorizia, Stop for toll booth, then follow signs to: Villesse / Gorizia (Road name changes to H4), entering Slovenia, at exit Prikljucek Nova Gorica, take slip road right, keep straight onto Prikljucek Nova Gorica, then turn left onto Šempeter pri Gorici (103), at roundabout take 2nd exit (road name changes to Vipavska Cesta /103), at roundabout take 2nd exit, at the next roundabout take 3rd exit onto Vetrišce, keep straight toward Zagrad, then keep straight toward Soška Cesta / 103, bear right onto Soška Cesta / 103, (Road name changes to Rocinj / 103), keep straight onto Rocinj / 103, bear right onto Ciginj / 603, bear left onto Baca pri Modreju / 403, Turn left onto Podmelec heading north, as you enter the village, 'Hisa nad Baco'( Podmelec 11), is straight in front of you. 2.
