The cottage is on a main bus route to Ipswich and Colchester towns. Manningtree train station is but a short taxi ride away, for keen walkers a footpath also leads from the station to us, via Flatford.
Other things to note
The bedroom has a super kingsize bed that can be spilt into two singles. There is an ensuite shower room off the bedroom. The living area has a sofa and we can supply a 'cube' be to be used for a third person if needed.

Meant to send this review months ago. Stayed in this gorgeous accommodations Mar 3rd-13th 2024. Really really lovely, so clean, spotless & lovely touches of a welcome drink & biscuits. Plenty equipment provided in kitchen etc. Lovely garden to the side & back. The village itself is just gorgeous & so near Flatford. We loved walks around the village & a gorgeous village cafe was only seconds away serving lovely food, a lovely treat. Janet had plenty of information of other cafes & restaurant/pub in the village too & recommendations for surrounding areas. Village had lovely Co-op shop a couple of mins drive away but perfect walking distance too. We loved everything about our stay & the village & surrounding area. Perfect location too for visiting my sister in nearby Dedham. Ideal for 2 people but we were 3 with our grown up daughter sleeping in the living area & we made it work as everything was so lovely. Janet is lovely & if you need anything it’s no problem, so friendly. We were short accommodation by 2 nights & however the website we booked on works dates out when we looked it said no availability for the additional 2 nights we needed but Janet advised it was available so if you do need additional nights sometimes it might be available even if the website says otherwise. So that was our only mistake not checking with Janet when we were there to see if she had 2 additional nights available.
We got sorted in Dedham thankfully.
The whole area is gorgeous & John Constable enthusiasts will be very happy staying in East Bergholt. Plenty of reading provided on said artist too.

Perfect choice
Everything lived up to hopes for a peaceful and easygoing break just after lockdown. The cottage looks new, it was so well cleaned and cared for. Lovely bedroom and bed, and the garden appreciated for lunch outdoors. Oranges and Lemons close by, a perfect addition for treats.
Thank you so much for your good communications too, adds to the all-round positive feel. Hopefully we'll be able to sneak in another break sometime.

Weekend visit
Absolutely loved this place which was so very clean and comfortable, had everything you could want and need to make your stay very special, had a lovely welcoming basket of bread biscuits and juice.

We were very pleased with the location and it prioximity to may places of interest.
I findthe questions below Irrelevant . We had a car, are chronlogoically past nightlife and we weren't near a beach!

Kind and generous hosts
Janet was very helpful and accommodating when our weekend away plans altered when one of our party had their flight cancelled. All the little extras in the house gave it a generous feel and made it welcoming. Able to sit in the morning sun outside in the carefully tended garden. A book on Constable to browse too. The description is accurate, the fold-out sofa in the lounge-kitchen-diner was fine for our tall teen. There is a spacious shower in the ensuite bathroom with access through the bedroom. On a quiet road, very good condition through out.

Ideal quiet location for two
Spotlessly clean, modern accommodation in a pleasant village.
Jan has thought of everything in the kitchen one might need when self-catering.
Well situated with Oranges and Lemons a few yards down the road and other eating options and other facilities in the centre of the village.
If you will be out on foot after dark remember to bring a torch as no street lights in village!
Hope to return when we are next in the area.

Perfect accommodation in a perfect location to explore "Constable"country
In the lovely village of East Bergholt,walking distance down to Flatford for the Mill and Willy Lott's cottage.Ideal centre for visits to Dedham,Stratford St.Mary,Stoke- by- Neyland.The cottage is perfectly appointed,everything you need for a memorable stay.The welcome pack was a surprise,attention to detail was first-class.Could not imagine a better place to stay.Janet and Nigel were the perfect hosts which just added to the experience.Highly recommended!!!

Exactly what we required, and very comfortable.
Well situated, in a lovely village. Accommodation is excellent, and the welcome very warm.
Suitable for a couple wanting to explore the lovely countryside of Dedham Vale, and the adjacent areas.

Lovely cottage in "Constable Country"
We came to see where John Constable obtained his inspiration for some of his paintings and we were not disappointed. Flatford Mill in the Dedham Vale is a lovely location and very close to the cottage and it is well worth paying the £2.50 pp to enjoy the tour with a local volunteer. Sutton Hoo near Woodbridge and Grange Barn at Coggeshall are both worth seeing. So with plenty to do, a very comfortable and well designed cottage and a helpful owner, so would like to come again. Thank you Janet for the welcome pack too.

Constable Country on the Suffolk and Essex border is a beautiful and peaceful area with great views and a friendly welcome.
Close by you have the towns of Ipswich and Colchester as well as the seaside resorts along the Suffolk and Essex coast.
Getting around
Chestnut Cottage is on the main bus route between Ipswich and Colchester with a bus stop 50 yards from the cottage.
Manningtree Rail station is 2 miles away on the mainline from Norwich to Liverpool Street, London.
You can easily walk to around the village but a car is recommended to travel further afield
